About

The Rock Orchestra By Candlelight are a band of classical musicians from the United Kingdom who transform rock and metal songs into dark symphonies. The group of 14 musicians regularly performs concerts bathed in an ethereal candlelit glow as they turn songs by AC/DC, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Linkin Park and more into swirling, dark rhapsodies that bridge the chasm between metal, hard rock and classical music. In 2024, The Rock Orchestra will embark on a tour of their native U.K. as well as Europe and the U.S. to present their thrilling new 90-minute show.

I’ve been to quite a few shows/concerts in my lifetime. I have to say, this was my favorite. The perfect marriage of rock music and classical instruments. Every member was a master of their instrument and the show as a whole was electrifying. From classic rock to modern rock, they could not have preformed any better than they did!

  • Not Just Instrumental?

by Beth on 3/10/25The Louisville Palace - LouisvilleRating: 3 out of 5

A good show overall, but I originally purchased tickets based on the assumption this would be an instrumental event, and learned about the vocalists after the fact. I was hoping they would accompany a handful of songs, and not half of the show (or more). Not putting down their talent at all, just not what I was expecting. I think stronger marketing would have helped avoid this, as I wouldn't have purchased tickets with this information. (Information about event at time of purchase was sparse, and still is)

  • Wonderful meld of music genres and atmosphere

by strangely entertained on 3/7/25Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Spoiler Alert: Don't read if you want to be surprised at the event. Except BE AWARE: there are bright flashes of light that wash over the audience at varying times that made me close my eyes occasionally due to movement and sudden intensity of light. The music is loud and you can feel it. I booked tickets to see this show long before we went on a trip. I had never heard of Rock Orchestra or a mix of classical rock music done with a gothic atmosphere. The artwork for the promotion of the show piqued my interest into buying tickets. We went on a Princess cruise recently and surprise! One of the evening production shows had singers and musicians doing songs and playing instruments of classical and rock music!!! I was thrilled to see theirs, but I also felt cheated because the land show I would be seeing at a later date wouldn't be such a new experience. I need not have worried...or been miffed. Both shows were terrific, and while similar in thought, they were different so it was amazing to experience both and I enjoyed both. The land show I am reviewing here shined brightly due to the musicians' talent at playing their instruments!!!!! The singers did good, I especially enjoyed the female singer's ability. Wow! I loved the interactions of the singers and those of the singers/musicians and musicians/musicians, and the singers, and musicians with the audience!!!!! The costumes were good, but I thought they could be better after seeing the costumes on the ship. The land ones seemed darker and got lost with so many others costumes nearby, the dark background, and the decorations on stage. The skeleton ones stood out being white bones against black shirts. The steampunkyish costumes were okay. I was disappointed there weren't hanging "candles"above the audience and no decorations along the walls by the audience There were lots of "candles"onstage, but from the promotional picture, I thought we (the audience) would be/feel included in the vibe as well. So instead of immersive, it felt like when you watch any other performance on stage (concert/play). I knew half or less of the music. If you have difficulty with LOUD music, music (especially drums) that you FEEL, or bright LIGHTS, heads up! The music gets loud, you will feel reverberations from the instruments, and there are strands of lights that flow from top to bottom and there are canister lights above stage that are different colors, bright, and send out bands of light that come and go across the audience as the lights move/swing on the apparatus holding them. Occasionally one of the lights would wash over me causing me to shut my eyes. Overall I LOVED this performance and would happily go see Rock Orchestra again.

  • Awesome

by Shurm on 3/7/25Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing this show and it was amazing. I knew all the songs and to hear it played by an orchestra was fantastic. The singing for some songs just added to it, especially the lead female singer. The show kept building to a great ending. Highly recommend and would see again.

by GoldiLocks on 3/7/25Old National Centre - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I wasn't sure what to expect, but the show was absolutely wonderful! We knew and recognized all of the songs. The entire group looked like they were enjoying playing for the audience, and their costumes were great! The lights, sound and stage set up were spot-on. We paid a little more for the Royalty section at the venue, and I felt like we had the best seats in the house! It was a fun evening out with my husband. We would definitely recommend this show and will attend again if they come back to Indianapolis.
