I love the podcast and listening to this live was great. The added audio-visuals were amazing too. What I didn't love: standing outside long after the 7pm advertised start time and then being ushered in (very slowly) and having to wait another hour for the show to start. I would have used that time to go to dinner and was instead stuck just sitting inside for an hour. Annoying.
The event itself was swell! I’m a big fan of the podcast, however… 1. My tickets said 7 PM, so we got there at 6:30 PM, we were with an 86 year old friend, we thought 7 PM meant that’s when the show starts (that’s what it usually means). Instead, in the middle of the worst air quality in history, we had to stand on the street, with an 86 year old woman, for over half an hour. It’s not Rock & Roll, so maybe the tickets should say Doors 7 PM. 2. Walk in music was terrible, and pretty inappropriate for a couple of academics. 3. I don’t think they could have looked more uncomfortable perched on those stools, especially Tom. This is NYC, you could have rented something much better. 4. Audio was a little fuzzy and too loud for a couple of guys talking. Windscreens please. Again, it’s not Rock & Roll.
