About

The Regrettes in Concert

The Regrettes vocalist/guitarist Lydia Night isn't one to mince words. On her band's breakout tune, the girl-group-meets-garage-rock rave-up "A Living Human Girl," the outspoken feminist details physical flaws and personal shortcomings, but asserts her right to "dress how I want" and embrace imperfection: "Sometimes I'm pretty, and sometimes I'm not." At other moments, Night's righteous anger is inspiring: The grungy rocker "Come Through," the first track from 2018's ‘Attention Seeker' EP, lays out, in no uncertain terms, that she is ready to eject toxic people from her life.

Such brutally honest vulnerability has helped Los Angeles-based the Regrettes (and Night herself) become role models to legions of teens. But the group's 2017 major-label debut, ‘Feel Your Feelings, Fool!,' has wide appeal thanks to a kinetic punk foundation spliced with nods to girl groups, New Wave, '50s rock 'n' roll, and the Smiths. Newer tunes released since then are yet more sophisticated: the jubilant, pogo-punk ripper "Helpless" boasts Cali-pop beachy harmonies and shredding guitars, while the driving "California Friends" brings to mind Joan Jett.

Incredibly enough, Night accomplished all this before being old enough to vote. She spent her early years singing Ramones songs while visiting her dad's New Orleans nightclub, and was inspired to start playing guitar after seeing a Donnas concert — at age five. Thankfully, her parents encouraged her aptitude: Night attended a California-area School of Rock and met other kindred spirits, which led to The Regrettes' formation in 2015.

Unsurprisingly, the Regrettes are energetic and mesmerizing live — the worthy descendents of '90s riot grrrls. Night high-kicks and dances around the stage, and encourages crowds to let their hair down and roar along with her. It's no wonder the Regrettes have toured with fellow rabble-rousers the Interrupters and Tacocat, and spent summer 2018 making the festival rounds at Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza. With an endless stream of new music— and a spot on Alt Nation's Advanced Placement Tour 2018 with Welles and Micky James also locked down — the Regrettes are just getting started.

    Great performance Venue was annoying

by No Regrettes on 5/6/22Lincoln Theatre - Washington

Had a fantastic time and the Regrettes did not disappoint. My only issue are the seats in the Lincoln Theater that made it a little annoying to see a band. Why were there folding chairs at the front of the stage? Why couldn’t we dance in the aisle? Also I got asked to put my mask on 3 times. I wear a mask I have no problem wearing a mask but if I take a drink of water and then sing a bit for maybe 10 seconds I promise you I will put my mask back on. I didn’t need to be reminded. Also they didn’t check for vaccination status so why be so rigid with masks if you are not requiring vaccines?

    A pleasant surprise

by Forged By Lasers on 5/4/22The Underground - Charlotte

Went to this show because the wife wanted to go and they were beyond incredible. They sounded better than their audio. They hyped the crowd well. Played an excellent long set. I came into this show being very meh about this band. I left this show with my mind blown and them being one of my favorite ones.

    Maddie’s weekend

    by Scooter on 4/26/22Rialto Theatre-Tucson - Tucson

I got the VIP experience for my daughter Maddie. She loves the Regrets and we listen to them all the time together. Maddie got to see them at Coachella the weekend before the Tucson show, so she was extra excited to meet them. The band was so awesome during the pre show, and I could tell by looking at my daughter’s face that she was amazed. The show was amazing, my daughter got right up front and stayed there the whole time. Thank you so much to the Regrets for putting on such an awesome show and showing love to the fans ❤️

    Small venue, big energy.

    by A on 3/21/22Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

Great concert! True performers. The band kept the performance very high-energy and engaged the crowd. I've been waiting to see the Regrettes live since they had to cancel a show in my state in 2019, and they didn't disappoint!

    Third time's a charm

by Mandy on 3/17/22Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

After two no-go attempts to see one of my favorite bands, it was so worth the wait. As good live, if not better than studio recording. Thank you for making a middle age woman smile! Girl power!!

    Poughkeepsie

by Denise Jean on 3/9/22The Chance - Poughkeepsie

I have been listening to this band since last year and was really looking forward to this show. It was rescheduled due to Omicron. The band was great! The venue is small, we stood behind the soundboard and could see and hear perfectly. The crowd was very into the music. We had a great time.

    Amazing

by maddie on 11/30/21House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

This show was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Everything about it was great. The Regrettes are amazing performers and know how to put on a great show. The venue was super small which made it even more fun. The only complaint I have about the Voodoo Room is that it got pretty hot in there at times since they had the doors closed and i’m not sure if they had AC on in there but eventually had to open the doors which only slightly helped. Besides that though, the show was great and definitely recommend.

by Desferous on 10/9/19Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

The energy they brought to the stage was infectious. The crowd had a great time as they were encouraged to participate by the band. The set list was like a best of. My wife and I honestly would go see them again tonight if we could. We can't wait to see them again. Kudos to the band, you guys are on your way for sure!
