About

The Pretenders in Concert

The Pretenders cross the bridge between punk, new wave and pop music like no other band, with genre-defining songs like "I'll Stand By You," "Back On The Chain Gang" and "Don't Get Me Wrong." The band has sold over 25 million albums and founder & leader Chrissie Hynde is one of contemporary music's greatest songwriters. Chrissie's 2015 memoir Reckless: My Life As a Pretender, was hailed by the New York Times upon its release as "honest and distinctive... a love letter to rock and roll." After delivering 2016's unflinchingly head-strong Alone album (produced by the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach), the Pretenders continue to tour worldwide.

The Pretenders on Tour

The Pretenders are set for an extensive North American tour in 2020 with Journey to feature all new production and hits from start to finish in the 60+ date tour. Fans can expect to hear iconic classics from The Pretenders and Journey.

The sound was out of sight. drums, guitars, etc, spot on and beautiful. Chrissie has not lost a beat on her distinctive voice.

    These guys still ROCK

by Anonymous on 11/17/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

First of all you get to see one of the best rock drummers in Martin Chambers WOW still punching out the beat of Chrissie's guitar licks. These guys are on their game. Band was as tight as I have ever heard them. You just want to give Chrissie a big hug, especially once you find out see Hates Herself. Great show! Hope they return to the Raleigh area.

    Excellent Show

by colinv1 on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

This is a professional act! Chrissy was flawless and sounded just like she did many years ago. The band was also great and was a faithful reproduction. They played just the right mixture of new stuff and old stuff. In fact I think they hit all the old favorites. DPAC in Durham NC is a great venue as well. Great show!

    The Real Thing

by Wowism on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Christie Hynde and The Pretenders took the stage at DPAC and delivered the real thing. At 65 she has not lost an iota of her edge.

by SLGCDK on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Besides the fact that i love her lyrics and grew up following the pretenders-her voice is just beautiful-and has not aged a bit. i saw the Pretenders when they toured the first or second album and she sounds even better. I am so glad I went. The new stuff was great too!

New and Old Songs - All were enjoyable!

by LikeHeart on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I didn't realize until seeing the Pretenders live, how great Chrissie Hynde's voice is. It didn't matter whether I was familiar or not with some of the songs she sang. She just made me want to hear more. The band was great! I highly recommend seeing them. They put on a really good show!

    Chrissie Hynde & band rock!

by Abide on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Chrissie Hynde's voice is still going strong; hard to believe she is 65 years old. Good to see the remaining original Pretender, Martin Chambers, still on percussion. The show was a great mix of classic well recognized Pretenders dating back to the first 1980 release and new material from Alone. See them if you have the chance

    Pretenders still get it done!

by BKel on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Chrissie Hynde has complete command of the stage and her band, which only Martin Chambers, the drummer, is the only other original member, and put on a show that really rocked! The band was tight and powerful, and Chrissie's voice has lost nothing over the years. A really standout show.

    Bad sound mix

by jkalnits on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Chryssie's cordless mike was not high enough for us to hear her singing over the music. When she used the good old fashion mike on a cord it was great, but unfortunately she did not use that one enough. What a shame, that should be a given that the sound is mixed well

Chrissy is still hot and her band rocks out.

by BassRebel on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

It doesn't take long at a Chrissy Hynde concert to realize she's still a rocking rebel with a cause. She still looks and sings great and her band was crackerjack, especially the lead guitarist, a young guy who had total command over his instrument and moves. She performed her hits flawlessly and in between songs, she gave some political insight, haha.

    Pretenders = great performance

by Barbaragroove on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

As a Pretenders fan I was excited to see the show - Chrissie and the boys did not disappoint Her vocal range was impressive as was her stage presence. Martin killed it on percussion! The smaller venue was perfect - Chrissie felt the energy from this intimate setting and gave her fans a night to remember! If you want to see a real rock band with punk influence do not miss the Pretenders!

    Great Band, Great Show

by auntrosie on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Time has done nothing to diminish the quality of a Pretenders show. Chissie's voice is hypnotic on the slow ones and rockin' on the fast ones. She delivers with sass and humor. The band is as tight and as talented as anybody out there.

    Pretenders

by TheDroz on 11/16/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Great to have the classic sound and fabulous singer/songwriter come to my little home town. The drummer is a beast and the show was fun. She did not play long enough and there were hits she did not play, but it was a Sunday night. The band was tight and practiced but we would have stayed another hour.

    Still GREAT

by bunnymom1 on 11/13/16Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I have seen The Pretenders twice before and each concert was excellent. Chrissy's voice is still amazing: deep, sultry, strong. The band was tight, the energy was high, the venue was nice and had great acoustics. Ticket prices were very reasonable, Parking was easy and cheap. Excellent concert in every way, had a wonderful time!!!!

    Still great!

by SanSimeon on 11/7/16BBT in Sunrise, fl - Sunrise

We saw them open for Stevie Nicks at BBT in Sunrise, fl. I've been a big fan since around 1979-80 and it is a great thing when in one night you get to see two great acts back to back. Chrissie still sounds great and still rips it up on the Telecaster! We really enjoyed the show and would certainly go again if the opportunity arose.
