About

These classically-trained musicians have definitely found their groove, and it lies somewhere in between rock and Rachmaninoff. Jon Schmidt (piano), Steven Sharp Nelson (cello) Paul Anderson (production, videography) and Al Van Der Beek (production, songwriting), a.k.a. The Piano Guys, are more than just a musical act, they are a multi-media production team. Through innovative musical composition, cutting-edge technology, and a dash of humor, The Piano Guys produce entertaining videos (oftentimes shot in breathtaking locales) of themselves performing their own rendition of popular songs, classical compositions, movie soundtracks and more—at times enlisting the help of talented guest vocalists. With YouTube as their portal, their videos have received hundreds of millions of views—pretty impressive for a fun-loving crew whose original intent was merely to showcase the instruments for sale at Anderson’s small piano shop. Initially shocked by their overwhelming success, they’re now making the most of their time in the spotlight by embarking on a mission to “make a positive impact in the lives of people all over the world.”  Among their most widely viewed videos is “Cello Wars (Star Wars Parody) Lightsaber Duel,” “Beethoven’s 5 Secrets,” and their covers of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” and Coldplay’s “Paradise.”  When The Piano Guys announced that a LIVE concert tour was in the works, eager fans anticipated the chance to buy tickets to what promises to be a stunning onstage spectacle of sight and sound.

I will be a fan for life!

by julilou on 7/1/14City National Civic - San Jose

I knew that I would like The Piano Guys in concert; I didn't know that I would really LOVE The Piano Guys in concert! If you get the opportunity to see them live, don't miss them!! I laughed (a lot), I cried (a little), and my son & I just had such a wonderful time. Jon & Stephen managed to be uplifting while being incredibly down-to-earth. In light of their tremendously obvious talents, I found their humility to be inspiring. But it is their joyfulness that I especially appreciated and ultimately took away with me (my soul continues to smile and my heart continues to dance)!!!

The Piano Guys are worth seeing

by annasj on 6/30/14City National Civic - San Jose

The Piano Guys were amazing! They connected with the audience with stories, anecdotes, and humor. They have tricks up their sleeves too. Since their YouTube videos have a lot of overlay (they record themselves playing different parts), they do play accompanied with some tracks. They also accompany their own videos. They were entertaining and wildly talented.

    Piano Guys were fantastic

by Amore9 on 6/30/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

My husband and I took our 12 year old son, who plays piano. We enjoyed the show very much. They are very talented and it is unbelievable what they can do with a piano and cello. We enjoyed every moment of it and did not want to end. It was very inspiring and they are very wity and funny, which makes their heartfelt performances even more entertaining and I hope to be able to see them again someday.

    would see them again

by ngism on 6/30/14City National Civic - San Jose

Fantastic live performance of favorites with their videos projected, along with new works. A little bit of story-telling and background, some healthy piano-cello rivalry, and good humor made for an entertaining show.

    It's like watching YouTube!

by dannymanTM on 6/30/14City National Civic - San Jose

If you are a big fan if the Piano Guys then you might enjoy this outing. Aside from a cool riff on Pachebel's Canon and some personal anecdotes, much of the concert was two guys playing along to the same YouTube videos you could watch more cheaply and comfortably at home.

Expected a bit more than just the same rendition of the songs seen on youtube. It was more comedy than music performance. Considering they are trained classical musicians, i thought there might a little extra. If i had to listen to everything exactly as the youtube videos, would not have bothered paying 50$; would have listened to it at home. Not a band to watch live.

    Great Show!

by ekmf on 6/30/14City National Civic - San Jose

We traveled from Chico, CA to see The Piano Guys live and it was well worth the trip. Never a bad seat in the civic center, and we loved how involved they were with the audience. Music sounded great live and was great to witness their passion and talent in music. Cannot wait to see them again!

    Fun, uplifting

by lydia20 on 6/30/14City National Civic - San Jose

The guys were entertaining and humble about their notoriety - there's a garsh-darn quality about them. The music and performance was very well done - they have a unique take on music. I was euphoric from the experience all the way home. (The audience was a very nice mix of ethnicity and range of age.)

These guys were amazing. The way they turn current pop songs into amazing pieces of musical art with only two instruments is crazy!

    Must see Piano Guys

by Anonymous on 6/30/14City National Civic - San Jose

One thinks going to a cello and piano concert to be a bit dull and can get a little long, these guys however have created a wonderful show filled with comedy and music not expected from their instruments. These guys are insanely talented, this is a must see.
