About

These classically-trained musicians have definitely found their groove, and it lies somewhere in between rock and Rachmaninoff. Jon Schmidt (piano), Steven Sharp Nelson (cello) Paul Anderson (production, videography) and Al Van Der Beek (production, songwriting), a.k.a. The Piano Guys, are more than just a musical act, they are a multi-media production team. Through innovative musical composition, cutting-edge technology, and a dash of humor, The Piano Guys produce entertaining videos (oftentimes shot in breathtaking locales) of themselves performing their own rendition of popular songs, classical compositions, movie soundtracks and more—at times enlisting the help of talented guest vocalists. With YouTube as their portal, their videos have received hundreds of millions of views—pretty impressive for a fun-loving crew whose original intent was merely to showcase the instruments for sale at Anderson’s small piano shop. Initially shocked by their overwhelming success, they’re now making the most of their time in the spotlight by embarking on a mission to “make a positive impact in the lives of people all over the world.”  Among their most widely viewed videos is “Cello Wars (Star Wars Parody) Lightsaber Duel,” “Beethoven’s 5 Secrets,” and their covers of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” and Coldplay’s “Paradise.”  When The Piano Guys announced that a LIVE concert tour was in the works, eager fans anticipated the chance to buy tickets to what promises to be a stunning onstage spectacle of sight and sound.

    Over-the-top Experience!

by Applesguy on 4/1/14Warner Theatre - Washington

Steve and Jon are on my favorite playlists on my iPod and iPhone. Their unusual YouTube clips gave me even more of a reason to make the 2+ hour trip to DC to see them live. We were not disappointed. Loved their relationship with the audience. Awesome combination of on-stage video and live performance. Also -- their surprise reunion of the military vet and his family was amazing. You could hear the gasps across the audience when Steve said "we have a birthday present for you . . . your Dad is backstage." And then he was there! Wow!

Wonderfully entertaining, loved the music. My son is so inspired by these talented musicians. He plays both piano and cello. We can't say enough great things about them.

    Schmaltz Song Mash

    by Whitefox61 on 4/1/14Warner Theatre - Washington

The Piano Guys brought 2 screens, one piano, 3 cellos, a loop box, and kick drum to the stage and played their arrangements to a widely enthusiastic audience. At $90 a ticket i expected more musicianship and less chatter, less you tube videos and less electronic looping. There was a moment in the second half where a pre-arranged reunion of a soldier and his family was put on stage and while very touching it almost felt like I was intruding on a young girl's private moment with her father. While I truly appreciate the service this seemed totally out of place with a supposed performance. I'm sure that some would say I am cynical but it seems to me to be out of character to take time from a performance to milk the sentimentality of another family. My wife thought they were a wholesome group of folks. I really don't care if they are or not. What I expect is to be entertained and what the. Piano Guys are a clever group of performers who milk the cellist skills with electronic loops, you tune videos. If one wants to see great contemporary performance go see 2Cellos. If you can't you can get everything you want from You Tube without paying an overpriced ticket. If you can stream your video to your large screen there's no reason to go. It's the same performance.

    Piano Guys are thoroughly entertaining!

by cbrob on 4/1/14Warner Theatre - Washington

This was our first Piano Guys concert and we absolutely loved it. I grew up in a musical family with a pianist mother and a choral director father, so I have always appreciated sophisticated music. I wasn't sure I would enjoy this type of showy, pop classical style of entertainment. But I was wrong. The Piano Guys are genuinely funny and talented. It's not like watching a symphony, but I can appreciate varying styles of performance and these guys are masters in their own right. I loved the mix of comedy and music.....kind of like watching Victor Borge. An easy five stars for a fantastic evening!

    Perfect, as usual

    by HM08 on 4/1/14Warner Theatre - Washington

For anyone worried that these Guys who became famous through their Youtube videos aren't good in person, rest easy. These two are fine musicians who genuinely enjoy what they do. That passion is translated into their art and the result is amazing :) Highly recommended.
