Our first time to the Royal George Theatre and it was a treat! The theater was great and the performance was entertaining and very moving. The perfect combination of piano and history. I would highly recommend this.

A wonderful way to spend time with your Mother!I would also reccomend it highly for parents with older children who can understand the history of the time and appreciate what this story is about! What a gift Mona has shared with the world and all WWII survivors!

My first standing ovation in many years! The tears came and wouldn't quit. Maybe I was crying because Mona played the Grieg so much better than I did.

by HolocaustTeacher on 5/14/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

My daughter and I attended this event at the beautiful Royal George Theatre. We spent 90 minutes listening intently, all with goosebumps when Mona was playing. What a beautiful tribute to her mom! I recommend this for all ages. A must-see event.

Don't miss The Pianist of Willesden Lane!

by GrandmaJM on 5/7/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

What a powerful blend of outstanding piano playing and the dramatic telling of her mother's experiences as a teenager during the Holocaust! From being a member of a loving family in Vienna, then going to London as a member of the Kindertransport, and her experiences in wartime London, all while developing into an accomplished pianist. The audience hung on Mona Golabek's every word and every musical note! The dramatic stage setting and photographs displayed throughout, further enhanced a not-to-be-missed experience!

1st rate story with 1st rate music.

by Anonymous on 5/7/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

The performance is half story half music and both are worth hearing. Royal George is an excellent theater for this show as it is intimate without a bad seat in the house. Ms. Golabek's story was as riveting as a movie thriller yet sad and uplifting all at the same time. The sound of the voice and of the piano was excellent and totally natural.

    Gripping show!

by Maaaaar on 5/6/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

If Mona just played the piano it would be a treat. If she just told her story, it would be memorable. But she combined playing piano (beautiful music) with dialogue, and multi-media (photos and film footage) , making it a rivoting experience.

    Mona Galaban was fantastic!

by JL107 on 4/29/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

This was a very moving and inspiring show, as well as good entertainment. The story told by the pianist Mona, is her mother's experience as a young girl who was put on the "Kinder Transport" at the start of the second World War to escape the Nazi's. She was eleven years old and all alone. She was a gifted pianist and her love of this probably saved her life! Mona tells the story as her mother, who was named Lisa. While telling the story she plays the piano and is a very gifted pianist herself! I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates good music and a moving experience.

    Terrific One-Women Show

by Berthajoy on 4/28/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

This was a very moving show with an actress/pianist who was actually the daughter of the subject. Great music interspersing the riveting story told in flashbacks. Very well done in all regards.

    Mona Golabek is electric!

by ChicagoCarol on 4/27/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Walking in to nothing but a Steinway on the stage and knowing the play was 90 minutes was alot to live up to from the beginning. But Mona Golabek was more than up to the task of taking control of the audience with her narration of a story of survival and triumph. The fact that the story winds around her family, and her playing is top notch, just makes the experience all the more special. The Pianist of Willesden Lane is only here for a short time, but be sure to find your way there!

DO NOT MISS----MONA GOLABEK IS AMAZING

by Dekes on 4/21/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Having been familiar with the story we could hardly wait to see what this acclaimed pianist and story teller had put together under the guidance of Hershey Felder. It did not disappoint! A well written story interspersed with concert level music flowed splendidly through the evening and ended in a well deserved standing ovation. Last comment....the set innovation was spectacular.
