    Outstanding

by Naomi on 12/17/19Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

Was so thrilled to be in hawaii when the Nut Cracker was in town, as im from Australia. The performers were outsanding, from the littlest to the professionals. I had an incredable time, moved by the outstanding musicians. i wished i had been able to take my little ones but it was great to see how many children were out at this event. Thank you to everyone whom aloud this performace to happen. It was the highlight of my first time experience in Hawaii

    Ballet with Historic References

by Kmwhite on 12/16/19Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

I have seen performances of The Nutcracker many times in my life. The performance on Saturday night (12/14) was by far one of the best. Using Hawaii’s history as the backstory and adjusting the story to use key places in Hawaii made the ballet only that much more enjoyable. Absolutely stunning scenery, choreography, and talent was on display. Bravo!!!!

    Poor orchestra for nice dancers

by ILoveTchaikovsky on 12/30/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

Overall stage was very nice with ballet part, BUT the orchestra was incredibly BAD. Strings and Winds were in different tempo, Percussion was out of flow, flute and trumpet were out of intonation. Mainly, the whole music dragged ballet. Hawaii Symphony used to be much better than this.... huge disappointment...

Delightful - toe tapping music- exquisite dancing

by Ceka on 12/30/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

I would recommend this performance to anyone who likes Tchaikovsky. The Honolulu rendition was charming and creative. The little children in the show were adorable. Mother Goose was uproarious! The dancing from the visiting artists was Superb. All the dancers were outstanding.

    Nutcracker in Hawaii

by SnowTiger on 12/25/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

Actual soloists of professional companies did all solo performances: this increased performance quality. Lovely that there were a few pas de deuxs, normally a finale performance. The use of many children drew families, filling the Concert Hall. The trinkets for sale should have sold out given their quality and appeal. Everyone would want a ballet slipper ornament though $15 per ornament is steep. My sister bought my $90 ticket, an moderately priced ticket in fourth row balcony. It was fun for 3 siblings. It must be a blast for families, especially if you've a child performing.

It was a great performance. Ballet Hawaii did excellent. However, I'm looking forward to seeing the Broadway one.

    The Nutcracker wowed us both!

by TaylorTot9 on 12/24/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

I took my 9 year old daughter. Her first comment was "What do you mean no talking again?" I took her to see The Lion King. At the Nutcracker, she sat on the edge of her seat, counted how many spins the women made and were still able to dance! She has been dancing to the music ever since.

My 4 year old lived it!

by Uhane on 12/24/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

My daughter is so in to the Nutcraker this year so I decided to take her to the ballet. She loved it and understood everything that was happening. She is still taking about it days after. Would definitely recommend

    Festive Ballet for the Family

by Ojiji on 12/23/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

This was my granddaughter's and son-in-law's first and both enjoyed the performance. Only 2 1/2 years old, I prepared her by watching "Daniel Tiger's Nutcracker" on television, which explained briefly about the story and the ballet. The costume, live orchestra, ballet, stage, etc., was exceptional. I recommend everyone to experience this performance during the holiday season.,

    Perfection

by sparkle987 on 12/23/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

Probably the best Nutracker ballet I have seen - and I have seen ALOT! Everything was gorgeous and the dancing was so perfect. Some of the dances actually brought tears to my eyes - they were that amazing.

    Regrettable

by BigCountry7904 on 12/23/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

Not a very good rendition of this timeless holiday classic. I expected a more formal, traditional approach to this classic. Costumes in ACT I were not put together very well and the ballet breezed over the march of the nutcracker and the entrance of the Mouse King. The Mouse King was relished to a comical event as he was making the crowd laugh, vice representing the antagonist of the show. During this portion of the show, there was more broadway specticle, than actual ballet. ACT II was great, but some of the dancers seemed to be off step. The arabians stole the show and performed superbly. Overall, I would not recommend, but based on the fact that it is the only show in town for Honolulu, you really have no other choice but to accept the sub-par rendition of this classic.

    More than I expected

by Pineapplepapa on 12/22/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

I was skeptical that I would enjoy my first ballet. I was very familiar with and enjoy the music for 'The Nutcracker' but thought that ballet was not something that I would not appreciate. Was I ever wrong!!! I need to thank my friend for wanting to go to see it. Without her suggestion I would never have gone to see a wonderful show. It was her initial first ballet performance also and I think she enjoyed it even more than I did.

    The Nutcracker was Beautiful!

by greensub on 12/22/14Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

The first act of the ballet felt a little kiddish/hoax-y. While the costumes were beautiful and the story line was unfolding, I was disappointed that there wasn't more professional/spellbinding ballet performances happening. It wasn't until the last scene of the first act that things really picked up, and then the entire second act was just beautiful and breathtaking. I couldn't believe that it was over by the end. Two hours had flown by in a few minutes! I didn't want it to stop! So overall, it was absolutely amazing, and I'd love to go again. My interpretation of the performance was that in the first act, the audience is being introduced to the characters, who are ordinary people experiencing extraordinary events, and in the second act, they are taken to this magical land where everything is out of this world, and the performances reflect that increase in beauty and skill.

Would highly recommend. Attracts enough big talent to make a great night, in addition to the children from Ballet Hawaii

It was some what childish, reminded me of a school rehearsal. It was cute but when I see"ballet" I think of a show that'll be memorable. I recommend watching the Russian ballet. They were great in NY!

    Wonderful!

by RKJE on 12/25/13Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

This was the first time I have gone to see the Nutcracker by Ballet Hawaii. I've never made the time to go before, but I'm very glad that I went this time. Aside from the beautiful costuming, the dancing was excellent and the live music was fantastic. I'm not a dance person, but I could appreciate all the hard work of the group.
