  • Excellent Fun

    by Linda G on 12/5/22State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

We have been attending this show for the last 10 years. It's a must right before Christmas. The New Standards bring together so many incredibly talents musicians from the "Minnesota Scene" that there is never a dull moment. We also like the fact that while it is right before Christmas and it does get you in the spirit, it's probably the most un-Christmas/Christmas show there ever was. Thank you for years of great entertainment.

  • Friday night show

I absolutely loved the content and format of the show - the full lineup of instruments on stage, the singing quality of the invited performers and the selection of songs were all superb. It was the best one of all that I've attended.

  • Cheesy, Irreverent, Awesome.

My first time attending, though have wanted to for many years. Not a traditional "Holiday Show" in terms of lots of Christmas music, but enough to nudge you toward the Season. Lots of fun with great variety and culimating in a disco dance party complete with mirror ball.

  • One of our favorite holiday traditions

by jac on 12/5/22State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Loved it- as usual! Chan, John and Steve never disappoint. The unique arrangements of familiar songs, fantastic band and amazing musical (and poetry) guests are always great. The dancing xmas trees and Santa are a hoot. My only complaint is that it's over too soon!

Such a great time and moving experience. Terrific guest artists too!!

  • Best night of the year!

by Kristilou on 12/15/21State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I look forward to this event every year, and missed it dearly in 2020. The 2021 show was even more magical than ever. How can you top a duck that that plays the drums, being covered in soapy fake snow, great music, great dancing and lots of laughs. Love, love, love the New Standards Holiday Show!

  • fantastic show!

    by Deb E on 12/7/21State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

What an extravaganza and a cheerful event! They pulled out all the stops with more than 2 hours of fun and merriment and many performers. I especially loved the young girl singing Starry Night, and Jeremy Messersmith's Christmas at the beach bit. Also loved all the Standards they always do, of course! Only issue was with the TikTok duck in the middle of all that incredibly loud drumming, which seems like it would be scary and aurally assaultive for it's little duck ears. Tip: if you do this again, use a solo tap-dancer to start the song.

  • Fun and Fabulous!

We had a great time at the Holiday Show! The New Standards do not disappoint! Thank you for the fun evening (late afternoon). ;)

  • Always an experience!

THS never fails to deliver a show full of eye candy and wonderful music to kick off the holiday season. It has become a new standard of our annual holiday events and celebrations.

  • So fun! No animals please!

by Rox on 12/7/21State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

This was so much fun - laughed and danced and enjoyed almost every minute of this show. The New Standards know how to engage and entertain. There was only one part that I wish they didn't do...they brought out a duck/goose that flapped its feet on a drum. Not funny and not kind. Please take that out of the show. I would have given this a 5-star review, but that part dropped it down for me.

  • New Standards deliver again!

by Jammer on 12/7/21State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I have been going to this show since near the beginning. It is hard to explain to someone that hasn’t gone, it’s cynically almost anti Christmas. But at the same time it is joyful and laughable and will make you warm and happy. If you DON’t want to laugh and smile and see some amazing local musical talent along with silly and playful choreograph, please don’t go! In fact, PLEASE DON’T GO! Tickets are selling out super fast and getting a good seat (or even getting a seat) is more and more difficult every year. So please stay home and be miserable and miss the best holiday show in Minneapolis without compare!

  • Fantastic show and appreciate the safety protocols!

    by Charmed9 on 12/7/21State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the show. Fun and energetic with incredible talent - especially Ben Afquack! Good to see you all together, healthy, and having fun. Thanks to you and the State Theater for hosting an event with strong safety protocols for COVID.

  • TNS's best concert.

by MikeR on 12/6/21State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

While I have only attended 7 or 8 of them, this was the best of the bunch. From the duck quacking me up, to boogie roller skaters, prancing-dancing reindeer, and down right solid music from the subdued opening to kicking ass at the end, The New Standards annual holiday party concert was a delight! And why two of their own Christmas songs don’t get playtime on the air, especially "Christmas Time Next Year" (title?), is downright Grinchy.

Thought the show was very entertaining. Not sure if the show required everyone to be vaccinated AND masked or if the State Theatre made that requirement but it sure made the show a LOT less enjoyable. They even had mask patrols go down the isles throughout the show. I agree with making everyone there be vaccinated but if thats the case and we all are, then why the mask???????

  • Always a blast!

Great show, fun, and engaging. Very good balance of holiday songs and fun classic hits!

  • New standards holidays show

by Powers on 12/6/21State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

I attended the New Standards show on Friday evening. Was thrilled to see Chan and the rest of the crew. I felt the first half was poorly orchestrated, and disappointing. I have attended these shows for many years and I felt like I was at a dress rehearsal. Second half was much better. Fewer guest stars than usual.

  • Fun Evening

Fun show! Great holiday tradition. Too many people disregarding the masking requirement, especially during intermission.

  • Fantastic show!

The New Standards Holiday Show is always the highlight of the holiday season, and this year did not disappoint. Love the rollerskaters this year!
