  • Outstanding Show!

by YesFanDon on 6/7/19Center Stage Theater - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The Musical Box is touring a new show called "A Genesis Extravaganza" and that is exactly what this was! The emphasis is on the music this tour rather than trying to precisely replicate entire Genesis shows from the early eras, and they succeed in a big way. Excellent musicians playing excellent music from the earliest days of Genesis, up to and including Wind and Wuthering. It was a long show, and I left thinking I'd see this again in a heartbeat!

by Jamcap on 6/7/19Center Stage Theater - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

These guys are great. Second time I’ve seen them and they are so talented and they play Genesis just like Genesis who I also saw twice. Singer sounds just like Gabriel and they are al amazing musicians. See them!

  • Unbelievable!

by Speechless on 6/7/19Center Stage Theater - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The Musical Box is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Genesis has ALWAYS been my favorite band, with and without Gabriel, but I never knew another band could mimic them so perfectly. At times, I would close my eyes and I was taken back to the early seventies, when I saw Genesis the 1st time. These guys are FANTASTIC! Sure hope they come back to Atlanta, again!

  • Great Show

  • A Must See for Genesis Fans!

    by G. on 6/7/19Center Stage Theater - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was perfect!!! Every song was flawlessly performed and the song choices and sequence were wonderful. I could not stop smiling through the entire show!! Having seen this band 4 times now over the last 20 odd years I am thankful that they continue to work hard and allow us to experience these wonderful songs!

  • Hits the Mark again

by Keel on 6/7/19Center Stage Theater - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The Musical Box once again gives a solid performance of Genesis classics. My third time seeing this talented band of Canadian musicians and they just keep getting better. I was lucky enough to see Genesis with Gabriel 3 times in the early to mid 1970s and the Musical Box duplicates that experience in most every way. Well worth the ticket.

  • Magical Box at Center Stage

    by R. P. on 6/7/19Center Stage Theater - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show. Would see them again if they were still in the states.

  • Emotional

by Mike on 6/7/19Center Stage Theater - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

It was Genesis captured as well as it can ever be. 3rd time for me and it always amazes. Very emotional since the Genesis era up to ‘80 was a huge part of me. Musical Box will continue to tug on my heart strings and I must go each time.

  • Awesome Show

by Dennis Lee on 6/5/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

They played early Genesis up to Wind and Wuthering. None of that 80's disco stuff Genesis was cranking out in the end. See these guys.

  • Great As Usual.....but

by Paige on 6/5/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

Had some sound problems. Too much talking and phone videos by the audience

  • Misleading experience

by Dopey on 6/1/19Sony Hall - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

Didn't realize at Sony Hall if you pay General Admission it means we sit you at the worst possible table, where the keyboards will block a good chunk of the action. I expected a first come first serve experience, where the VIP package gets you a little more attention or free drinks. Also, my burger was missing ingredients listed on the menu. Also, for a place called Sony Hall I wouldn't exactly call it state of the art sound. Really classy interior decoration though.

  • If you ever wanted to see Peter Gabriel/early Genesis

by Rob on 6/1/19Sony Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The Musical Box has traditionally recreated specific tours of Peter Gabriel era Genesis (sometimes Trick of the Tail/Wind and Wuthering). This is more of a sampling/greatest hits than a specific tour. This really showcases their talent as musicians and their performance is flawless in recreating album tracks. The only disappointment is that there is no way to hear all of the songs you hope to hear. The venue was nice with tables/chair and wait service. Highly recommended.

  • The Magical Box

by Domo on 4/24/19The Saban - Beverly HillsRating: 5 out of 5

Having seen this band nearly a dozen times since their "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" tour in 2004, I was still amazed at how much I enjoyed the show. Anyone who knows and loves early Genesis would probably agree. The music was powerful, the lighting and videos were absolutely beautiful, and the forgotten gems like "Time Table", "Seven Stones", "Looking for Someone", really gave the die hard fans like myself a special treat. "Theres just something about a man in a red dress, wearing a Fox head mask that can only be understood by us Dinosaur Prog Heads"! Long live The Musical Box and the musical genius of Genesis!

  • Wonderful Genesis show by The Musical Box

by ChrisH on 4/24/19The Saban - Beverly HillsRating: 5 out of 5

I saw The Musical Box for the second time on April 20. The first time was last year at the Coach House and I was SO impressed with the performance - not just musically, but costumes, sets, and even movements that duplicated old videos of Genesis shows. I've heard they sometimes play the same setlists to really make the show as close as possible to being there. This year I saw them at the Saban in Beverly Hills, which I think is a much better venue. The music is performed faithfully and the singer at times sounds just like Gabriel. They dabbled a bit outside of their Gabriel-era music by playing selections from Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering. I'm glad they did, as those are two of my favorite albums. If you've seen either the Australian Pink Floyd or Brit Floyd and been impressed by their shows, then The Musical Box won't disappoint you. I plan to see them every chance I can, and I really appreciate them resurrecting the wonderful music of early Genesis. I was fortunate enough to see Genesis a few times, starting with the Wind and Wuthering tour (Winterland, San Francisco, 1977). When The Musical Box played Los Endos and lit the stage like the Second Out cover, I had chills. It was just amazing.

  • Better than Genesis

    by M. K. on 4/23/19The Saban - Beverly HillsRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to! For almost 3 hours they performed Genesis songs flawlessly. This was a show mostly for dedicated fans of Genesis before Duke. Brilliant!

  • Spot On As Usual

    by K. H. on 4/23/19The Saban - Beverly HillsRating: 5 out of 5

Just overall enjoyable and entertaining. These guys never disappoint. Great song selection. Never have seen them have a mediocre night.

  • Amazing Performances But Lacking...

by MDA on 4/23/19The Saban - Beverly HillsRating: 3 out of 5

I’ve seen them before when they did “The Lamb” in its entirety... it was truly spirited and the Energy in the Theater was immense. However This Show was lacking energy decibels and direction... They played great versions of Great songs however all the songs were mostly mild cuts from classic Genesis albums... there were no moments of Amazement, no “Suppers Ready” or “The Knife” or “It” or “Eleventh Earl Of Mar” or “Unquiet Slumbers” so it was a bit uneventful... only a couple of costumes were used a very small screen for the videos... not to say they didn’t do Beautiful versions of “Seven Stones” or “Supernatural Anesthetist” or a kinda laid back “Carpet Crawlers” or “Aisle of Plenty” However one thing you’ve got to have to sell a genesis show is the inevitable build and peak and off we go home exhausted from the emotional drain that great genesis shows are known for... I really enjoyed all the Effort they put forth however it just wasn’t a spectacular event a show to remember... It was lazy and the audience was Just waiting for something to sink their teeth into like when they played “Firth of Fifth” and “Los Endos” it was wanting for a peak that all live Genesis show always had... just like past Musical Box shows... I get they’ve been doing this a long time but... if they’re going to fill the void left by the real thing they have to give it more than they did at the Saban in Beverly Hills on Saturday. And with Steve Hackett playing his genuine Genesis event which is on tour right now... they have to push the envelope... There wasn’t a full house on Saturday which may have taken the excitement out of the MB guys can’t blame them. However if they can’t sell out in a big city like LA that’s not good... one reason may be that Steve Hackett is coming to town in a few months and it’s really worth the wait for the closest thing to Genesis if not better... I saw him the last 2 years in a row and “Holy Mother Of God” was his Genesis revisited Show out of this world. I still recommend seeing the MB show it was relaxing and heartwarming to hear the songs played very well... Honestly 5 minutes after they were finished the whole show was gone from my mind and there wasn’t a whole lotta effort from the crowd to get an encore. Great Show if the price is right save your money there’s no need to sit up front there’s nothing you need to see at a higher price. Buy the least expensive seats and enjoy the music with minimal expectations.
