  • the musical box-the lamb lies down on broadway

by carlpeart on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

i envy the crowds that witnessed this concert as originally performed by genesis way back in the day but the boys in the musical box (genesis tribute band) have it down to a T. surreal/awe-inspiring/humorous/mythical/allegory...what a story, what a musical feast, what a performance! better than the first time i saw them in 2004...thanx fellas!

  • A no-brainer for fans of 70's era Genesis.

by hamdemon on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

I was impressed on hearing these songs live for the first time. Having your chest shaken by the deep thrum of "Fly on a Windshield" was a joy. The costumes and sets were nice, but the music put me in another world for that 90 minutes. They closed with "The Musical Box" and "Watcher of the Skies".

  • The Musical Box...Good,

    by OLY5 on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

I've seen them 6 times now. They always blow me away with the detail to the music and set which they re-enact from the PG era Genesis. Tonight , they were a bit off in the beginning. Tech stuff generally. sound a bit flat, but 2nd half and encores were AWESOME!!!

Absolutely the best show EVER!!! Hope they come every year...would be great to see "foxtrot" or "nursery cryme"

  • Like seeing Peter Gabriel in 1974

by bigyesfan on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing re-creation of the Gabriel-era Genesis performances of the mid-seventies. All of the Lamb tracks, plus some surprise bonus tunes at the end, all in full costume. Bravo!

  • Good show - but...

    by BillyH123 on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

This is the third time I have seen Musical Box at the Keswick. I had been at the prior two shows, "Trick of the Tail" and "Selling England By the Pound". While I would have given those two shows a "10" for content and sound, this one was more like a "7". Still quite good, but for me hampered by two things. First was sound quality. The sound was very harsh in the upper registers, lacking warmth. I kept wanting to shield my ears to see if I could make it sound better. I was sitting in the center section towards the middle, just as before. I can't explain why this was, but it was certainly not as balanced a sound as prior shows with the same group at the same place. There were also two places in the first act where technical difficulties caused all the amplification to die, clearly distracting the band and disappointing the audience. What the heck happened? The visual slide show on the backing screens was perfect as well, and may have been the original photographs from the tour, for all I know. Second was the variety of music. I suppose I knew that they would be playing the one album through from start to finish, but I guess I hoped there would be more variety, perhaps in an encore. The group performed every note of "The Lamb" faithfully, amazingly so. I enjoyed the two song encore more than the rest of the show, honestly. There are some parts of TLLDOB that are rather odd and for me, forgettable. Forgive me; perhaps I am just more grouchy than I was back then when it was new.

  • The Musical Box delivered the goods!

The Musical Box's performance of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was spectacular. Absolute perfection!!

  • TMB was great as always

by BVgenesis on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

As always TMB presented an excellent show. Minor sound issues were laughed off by the crowd. We even sang along for a moment. An enjoyable night for all!

  • God bless the Musical Box!

    by HAN19 on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

We are so lucky to have a band so exactingly re-creating these early Genesis shows. This is my 3rd time seeing the band. It is obvious the reverence they have for the source material. Show couldn't be better!

  • Great musicianship and great material

by DrKAOT on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

This was the second time I saw this show, and I have to say that I enjoyed it better than the first. Musical Box works hard to recreate the Genesis concert experience and for Lamb Lies Down, like their other shows (Trick of the Tale, Selling England by the Pound), it seems that they get better with experience. I especially was impressed with the lead guitar, which added such a great dimension to the performance. There were some technical problems, but the band handled them professionally. I'd see it again next week if they came back.

  • Amazing show but lacked in truly live energy

by joeyevil on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

The show was awesome. Completely true to the studio album but lacking in energy. I don't know about you, but when I listen to the Lamb, I love the little nuances and the crescendo of Steve Hacket's guitar busting in with the syncopation of the drums and the same with the keyboards. Here, they played every note, but they lacked that sense of urgency. Perhaps it could have been corrected with the sound board. The volume was disappointingly low. It was so low that the din of people talking in the concession area drowned out the music for the last twenty rows. The board needs to turn up the volume and recognize the parts when Hacket's guitar should shine. The singer was phenomenal and emulated Gabriel's every move and voice intonation. The two encore songs were fantastic. Overall a very enjoyable trip down memory lane for a group we will never see again in original form.

  • The Musical Box rocks!

    by JNeo77 on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen The Musical Box three times (including this show) and they are amazing. There are actually moments that you suspend disbelief and think you're watching 1970's Genesis. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway show was awesome. If you are a fan of Genesis, especially their early music, you need to go see these guys. The first half hour alone is worth the price of the ticket!

  • The Musical Box doing the Lamb at the Keswick...

by OldBassPlayer on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

If you are a fan of early Genesis with Peter Gabriel, I would highly recommend this show. I never saw the original Genesis live, so this was as close as one could get today. It wasn't just a recital of the songs as most cover bands can do, this was a re-enactment of the 1975 Lamb tour, with all the multi-media, stage layout, stage banter, and costume changes. A treat for old Genesis fans. Probably total boredom for non-fans. My only complaint would be that the vocals could have been louder.

  • Amazing show!

The music is dead on! Great Performance. The Lamb was flawless!

  • The Musical Box 11-18-11

by MikenEl on 11/21/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

This was the second time I've had the pleasure of seeing the Musical Box do Lamb Lies Down on Braodway. Again, it was fabulous! The stage props and costumes were fantastic. Musically, they were right on and it was a great show. I"m already looking forward to the nexst tie TMB comes thru the Philly area; I'll be there.

  • The Musical Box - The Lamb Lie Down on Broadway

by Fitt on 11/20/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

Great Show. They looked and sound just like Genesis did back in in 1974.

  • by Anonymous on 11/20/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

If you have any interest in early Genesis, do yourself a favor and see The Musical Box. They are the closet thing to a Genesis time machine we will ever see. Amazing show!

  • The Lamb Lies Down, but Never Ages

by OnTheAir on 11/20/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

As always, an extremely enjoyable night with The Musical Box!!!! I've been a Genesis fan(atic) since 1971 and saw Gabriel & crew on tour in '73 plus 3-4 other tours (plus several Gabriel solo tours), so the reenactments by The Musical Box are not only very enjoyable musically, but they also provide a deeply nostalgic touchstone to my teenage years. The music, sets, choreography, and lighting are meticulously researched and created and never miss a beat, and this tour is no different, spot on with the original 70's tour. Gagne's vocals and stage movement are pure Gabriel, and Gagnon's guitar work is outstanding. The only slight possible negative this tour may be David Myers is not touring as keyboardist. At times some melodies seemed played at a slightly reduced level, but perhaps just my perception. Anyway, this band is must-see for anyone who had a well-worn vinyl copy of The Lamb back in the day, or enjoyed any of the early albums (Trespass, Foxtrot, Selling England, etc.). Even the casual post-Gabriel era fan will be blown away by these guys. It is truly an amazing event - hopefully The Musical Box will keep coming back each year.

  • The Lamb

by Gabfan on 11/20/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

For the true Genesis fan of old, it really doesn't get any better than this. A rare treat that is a must see. There are only a few moments in time that, when the arrive, they shouldn't be missed.....this is one of them. Spectacular! Amazing! Iconic!

  • Great Band, shame about the venue background noise

by BigJimCooley on 11/20/11Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

This was the first time I have seen 'The Musical Box' and the first time I have been to the Keswick Theatre. The band were totally awesome. I am a musician and a HUGE Genesis fan and I was blown away by the whole performance. Just an incerdible reconstruction of the original show. The musicianship and sound were of the highest standards. The only downer to the evening was that we were seated about 5 rows from the back of the theatre, and whilst we still had to pay top dollar for the tickets, we were able to hear conversations people were having in the bar area behind us. As any lover of Genesis' music knows, some of the most beautiful, delicate music is played very quietly and I was not able to hear it due to the incessant loud chatter from behind. The Keswick needs to be aware of this and either get their ushers to quieten drinkers down or shut this area off from the auditorium completely.
