  • Falls in the top ten shows of my life.

by nonosh on 3/1/17Saban Theatre - Beverly HillsRating: 5 out of 5

The quality beats Steve Hackett's Genesis Revisited tours. These lads are so accurate to the classic Genesis performances, they make you feel as if you're at the legendary Shepperton show in 1973 (not that I was there, since I'm 29 years old at the moment). The entire setlist was perfect, which included the seldom live-performed song "The Battle of Epping Forest." The encore song ("Can-Utility and the Coastliners") featured surprise guest Danny Carey (drummer of Tool) to replace "Phil Collins" on the drums while wearing Bill Bruford's famous B-lettered shirt, a nod to the fact that Bill Bruford was at one point Genesis's touring drummer while wearing that same shirt.

  • The Musical Box is a "Must See."

by crcnorider on 3/1/17Saban Theatre - Beverly HillsRating: 5 out of 5

The Musical Box is not just music--it's theater--theater rock. The stage production is a "must see" and the music is a "must hear" for anyone who enjoys live music.

  • Amazing!

    by YesFan1972 on 3/1/17Saban Theatre - Beverly HillsRating: 4 out of 5

The Musical Box once again transported me to the 70's, via Selling England by the Pound (with a few selections from Nursery Cryme And Foxtrot). Superb recreations of the original Genesis, including costumes, multimedia, and Gabriel's quirky theatrics. Wonderful!

  • The Music Box is going back in time

by CCJAGUAR on 2/28/17The Rose - PasadenaRating: 5 out of 5

This band was better than the Genesis reunion, it was like going back in time you must see to understand.

  • AMAZING!!!

by Kirquita on 2/28/17The Rose - PasadenaRating: 5 out of 5

There's no words to explain how amazing this show is!!! Everything about it!! All the details in the music, the customs, the show they put on! These guys are amazing!! There's no other word to describe them! I'm 46 years old and would have never been able to see Genesis in my lifetime. So seeing this was a gift from the Heaven!!! I saw The Black Show Performance but I can't wait to see Selling England By The Pound. If people only new how good this show is, they would sign up to see them, no matter what type of music they're into.

  • Time Travel is possible with The Musical Box

    by HankyPanky13 on 2/28/17The Rose - PasadenaRating: 5 out of 5

I became a Genesis fan after Peter Gabriel left, so I never got the live experience when Peter was at the helm. Over the years of wearing out vinyl versions of Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot, and watching YouTube and documentaries, I felt like I knew what to expect from The Musical Box. They did not disappoint! I can say it was very rewarding, after 45 years, to see these songs "presented" in such an accurate and entertaining way. Bravo! Encore!

  • The performance was nothing short of great

by Celtsman on 2/28/17The Rose - PasadenaRating: 5 out of 5

Excelent show and performance by an awesome Genesis tribute musicians group

  • Remarkable

by FunkMetalFan on 2/23/17Howard Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Do not expect state of the art effects. This is old-school performance art using 1970s sets, costumes, and instruments. I never got to see a PG-era Genesis show, but I've seen films of them and The Musical Box is indistinguishable from the original.

  • Excellent show...Could use sound improvements

by blackcapbaron on 2/22/17Scottsdale Center For The Performing Arts - ScottsdaleRating: 5 out of 5

The show is incredible and there is nothing like seeing and hearing this music live. Videos do not do them justice. HOWEVER, while I LOVE the deep, blaring bass - it drowns out the other instruments - particularly the vocals and keyboards. Either that or the vocals and keyboards just aren't loud enough. When there is no bass, I can hear the vocals fine (quieter sections) but for example Battle Of Epping Forest, if I didn't know the lyrics by heart already, I'd be very lost because you can't hear a word being said and he's speaking a hundred miles an hour. I know that's just a flaw of the song, but all the bootlegs I've heard, you can still at least comprehend what Gabriel is saying, despite talking fast. So I thought that was the weakest song of the setlist and the band really needs to work on that one. I think it's definitely a moment in the concert where you lose a lot of the casual fans who aren't intricately familiar with every song. Also, there are moments when the keyboards are also either drowned out by the blaring bass or just aren't loud enough. The organ in particular was weak at times where it needed to be at the front of the mix. One example that comes to mind is the Cinema Show instrumental section. In bootlegs, Tony's synth and organ are at the front of the mix and the organ is VERY noticeable. TMB show it was hardly noticeable at all, although the synth sounded great. But I want to hear the strength of that organ - a trademark Genesis sound. Another example is the Apocalypse section in Supper's Ready. Again, if I wasn't so familiar with the song and didn't know there was a keyboard being played there, I don't think I would have heard it. The bass drowns it out and all you hear is a wacky 9/8 rhythm section without much melody. This is not just a venue problem. I have seen this band in about 7 different venues and the same problems occur in all of them. It is a sound mixing issue. Maybe the difference is that the bass player has the final say for sound mix in this band and Tony Banks had the final say for sound mix for Genesis. I don't know, but there is certainly room for improvement and they should have fixed this by now. Of course, I am pointing out the only negative in what is otherwise an AMAZING show. For the most part the sound is incredible and that blaring low bass is AWESOME! Just don't want it to come at the expense of hearing the other instruments as well. Definitely go see this band. It is crazy good! Especially if you like early Genesis music - you are missing out big time if you've never seen these guys.

  • Most accurate Gabriel-era Genesis tribute

by GusNJ on 2/19/17The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen them 3 times and am always impressed. This show was excellent and added Horizons and also a different encore (...Hogweed) than last time. The stage, performance, and show was superbly accurate. Their sound and mix was also another highlight.

  • This is not a tribute act

by Liamthegooner on 2/18/17Howard Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I am a 35 year old bloke, I would've have ever gotten a chance to see Genesis play these kind of shows. Well, I was wrong, this guys have taken the word homage to a different extreme. I felt like I could've been a some small teather in London or Paris, watching Genesis touring Selling England By The Pound... amazing, if you like Genesis, Circa 1970-1975, do yourself a favor and check these guys out.

  • by Ynot2 on 2/18/17NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburyRating: 4 out of 5

musical box is not a cover band BUT an actual reincarnation of Peter Gabriel's Genesis! A must see for any fan of early Genesis!

  • Supper's ready was perfectly played

    by Anarcus67 on 2/16/17Howard Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This is a highly recomended show for any fan of the classic Peter Gabriel Genesis

  • Disappointed

    by Gooman55 on 2/15/17The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 3 out of 5

After having seen Musical Box 12 - 15 times, my expectations for the performances were justifiably high. The sound mixing for the Feb. 10 show was uneven at best. Opening with Watcher of the Sky, there was something off. The sound seemed to improve for a while after that. Then the vocals started to get buried again. During Supper's Ready there was a malfunction with the guitar equipment that took more than a minute to remedy, during which the band played on. The hairs on my arms usually stand on end from the thrill of a Musical Box performance, but this show didn't do it for me. I certainly hope this was a "one-off" night.

  • Musical Box Awesome

by Anonymous on 2/15/17Howard Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Some random thoughts about the Concert Kelli and I attended last night. I have never seen a so called, " Tribute Band". I know they exist for almost every famous group, but I never had the urge to see one. I am writing this while it is still fresh in my mind, even though my mind is jello-like this morning. The dedication of these guys to early Genesis, was awe-inspiring. For me there are two distinct Genesis incarnations. The Gabriel years, Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England, and of course the Lamb. After that is what I refer to as the Collins/Banks Band, for me, the real Genesis ceased to exist, after Gabriel left the band in 75.. At face value they were awesome, even though I had this thought in my head that I was in Branson MO, or Vegas watching some musicians still playing their old music, but just going through the motions. They were technically perfect, musically awesome. The Gabriel guy definitely did the best he could, but it is impossible to be Peter, only Gabe can do that. The Hackett guy definitely produced Steve's atmospheric guitar style, and the rest of the band were all great musicians. I am lucky to have actually seen the real Genesis, twice in Berkeley CA, in 72, and 74 respectively. I still don't know how to describe the feeling I had last night. Of course nostalgia kicked in Big Time. Worth seeing, if you are an early Genesis fan. Have any of you ever seen a tribute band, your thoughts would be appreciated. I am still sifting through, mentally, what I was really watching last night. It was very good, closed my eyes and it was 1972 again. Thought I saw Steve Bannon in the crowd, but it was some other drunken fat lady with a hat. LikeShow more reactions Comment Share

  • Excellent Show

by Homerunking on 2/14/17The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 4 out of 5

Great show once again by Musical Box. Perfect sound (except for minor issue with guitar connection to amp).

  • Great band eq needs work.

by Jetsfuel on 2/13/17The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 4 out of 5

The band is fantastic and extremely accurate to the original Genesis. The only thing was the sound engineer had the drums and keys too high so vocals and guitars were lost at times. But musically and artistically they are impeccable. If you have never experienced Genesis or have and want to remember that time this is the show to see. I just hope the reevaluate thier sound eq.

  • Musical Box disappoints

by GessWurker on 2/13/17The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 1 out of 5

My wife and I left early (after three or four songs). Sound was really poor and the Peter Gabriel character (Denis Gagné) either had a very bad night or he's just not so good anymore. We heard The Musical Box a few years ago (Trick of the Tail Tour) and they were far better. However, this "Selling England by the Pound" concert was just terrible. There were some good instrumental moments, but the singing was dreadful through and through. Oh well...

  • Musical Box was outstanding!

    by RD423 on 2/13/17The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

Musical Box was outstanding! The music and performance blew me away. The venue was less then desirable, but the show helped to distract from the pain of the uncomfortable seats. The seats were small, hard chairs that were linked together leaving no room. My back hurt for days after. The sound was amazing, the view was terrible..

  • It's early 1970's again

If you are a fan of early Genesis you will love it.
