The Musical Box put on a great show. A great "performance" of early Genesis. I would definitely see them next time around. Great musicianship, great vocals, the costumes of the day that Gabriel utilized....really just amazing. If you're an early Genesis fan...I'm sure you would not be disappointed and would actually want more.
One of the best cover bands I've seen. The acoustics and mix were great, and the theatrical side was very entertaining.
Twice for me and they never fail to produce. A joyous treat for any pre Trick Of The Tail Genesis fan. Note for note, word for word playing of this Selling England masterpiece and more. True artists depicting some of the finest music ever made.
Great reproduction of early 70s Genesis show. Great choreography and musicianship. Keyboard player especially good.
I have seen this band 3 times now, and was fortunate enough to have seen the REAL Genesis on November 25, 1974 in Cleveland when Gabriel announced he was leaving the band. Since that night, I have seen Genesis over 10 times. The Musical Box is the closest thing you will EVER see to the real band- they are incredible musicians doing their absolute best to recreate what Genesis was in the day. They duplicate it down to every detail, with the lead guy even sounding like PG. It was most disappointing to see that it was not a sellout here in Atlanta- they deserve better. I know most people may shy away from tribute bands, but I truly don't even regard them as such since they ARE so good. If you can appreciate early Genesis music, this is NOT a show to miss!
I'm a big fan of Gabriel era Genesis and had no idea there was an act performing that music until I received an email from Ticketmaster with the amazing photo of Musical Box's lead singer in the flower costume. That photo and the name Musical Box got me hoping that this thing did in fact exist. My 18 year old son (also a big fan) and I went to the show and we were absolutely blown away. They were amazing in every way. Terrific musicians who can play this amazing music perfectly. The lead singer sounds and acts just like Peter Gabriel. Has the quirky style of presentation and singing down pat and even introduces the songs with the stories PG would tell. Can't wait to see them again. If you like this music, GO!
I wanted to see The Musical Box for the longest time since I have been a Genesis fan since their early days. I did the VIP experience and met a few members of the band beforehand and they explained how Genesis let them use original instruments that were used to recreate the 1970's Genesis sound. It is clear why Genesis endorsed this band. I felt like I was at an early Genesis concert.
This was one of the best concerts in an awesome venue I had never been to before. It was like seeing Genesis in 1974. It could not have been better.
If you like early '70s Genesis music and The Musical Box comes to your area, GO!! These guys are amazing players and the front man captures the weirdness of Peter Gabriel in all of its strange glory. Just GO!!!
I waited over 40 years to see the show again and wasn't disappointed. The music was tight, "Peter Gabriel" was on and I will see it again if they come back. You can't find great entertainment at these prices anymore. A really talented group!
Great show, very impressive only wish i could've seen the real thing in '74!
This is my third time seeing The musical box and the first time seening The Black Show. These shows are extremely authentic and they make you feel like you are watching Genesis from back in the early 70's. The Black show was presented wonderfully and it's a great way to enjoy Genesis music you will never see live any other way.
This is the second time I've seen the musical box the first time they performed lamb lies down on Broadway which was amazing this time they did selling England by the pound and I have to say it was incredible! They attack the music the way a conductor of great classical music would as well as actors performing a part they covered it all. Musically and the stage performance are exceptional executed.... every nuance every sound you remember hearing on the records are accurately at expert leap forward with care by the musical box, it is an incredible experience musically and visually I highly recommend them, please go see that you will not be disappointed.... anybody that's a fan of Peter Gabriel Era Genesis Will fall in love with the musical box I guarantee it!
This is the closest you'll get to a live show from the peter Gabriel version of genesis, this is an actual recreation of the stage show , not just s tribute band !!!
Awesome performance. I loved the opportunity to take my high school daughter to see this reenactment of a classic Genesis show from the 70s with Peter Gabriel.
4th time seeing the band, and they always put on a great show!! A must-see for Gabriel era Genesis fan!!
Better than last year, the Musical Box continues to appeal to Genesis's fans in their recreation of Rock's most iconic band who vanished prematurely and left us craving for a lot more.
This is the first time I have seen Musical Box, but it will not be the last. For people such as myself who are just a little too young to have seen the Peter Gabriel era lineup of Genesis, this is the next best thing. The first time I saw Peter perform was for the Security (Shock the Monkey) tour - which I saw twice, and for Genesis was the "Three sides Live" tour. Musical Box is a theatrical show, re-creating specific shows from their early tours. My wife loves Peter Gabriel's solo work, but till now has not appreciated his earlier Genesis work. Seeing this show has given her a new appreciation for this era, and it is almost like seeing what Peter, and the band were like in their 20's... I really hope they remount "The Lamb lies down on Broadway"!!!
I saw the original band maybe 10 or 12 times. And I loved them. I know all the songs, most of the lyrics, the arrangements and staging. The Musical Box is a true representation of the original band. The music was spot on, but did have times were the mixing wasn't as clean as it could have been. Some musical lines were difficult to follow because of the mix. And as with most concerts the vocals could have been more separated from the music. The show's presentation was true to the original band for most of the concert. The original band at the ending of 'Supper is Ready" had a spectacular ending with pyrotechnics and an elevated Peter Gabriel. This show doesn't have that, but was true to the bands original staging. I loved it and would definitely see it again. If you have never seen the original band this will change how you see concerts in the future.
