Excellent time. TMB was awesome as usual. Took my older brother. Third row center. He was blown away!
The musicians played at the top of their game but the engineer(s) at the sound board could have made the singer's voice more prominent and highlighted various instruments in the mix, when they were doing solos. Also very distracting to constantly see the man with the flashlight policing all of those using their phones to make recordings.
If you are a Genesis fan, you will definitely be blow away by this band, their technical & instrumental perfection & their 100% devotion to recreating the greatness of Genesis. And if you're not necessarily a fan or familiar, so what.....it's a great show! A friend told us about this band, highly recommended the concert & our expectations were exceeded!
This was the second time seeing The Musical Box at this venue and both shows were simply amazing. The band is so tight...simply amazing. If you are a fan of early Genesis, you must make a point of seeing them live. One of the biggest surprises of the evening was the announcement that The Musical Box will be back next year and will presenting "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" in its entirety! I cannot wait for that show. The venue itself is a wonderful place to see a show...polite staff, great bartenders, clean bathrooms and great prices on tickets. One criticism however... ...I've purchased front row tickets twice, once for Brian Setzer and another for last year's Musical Box. You cannot see because the seats are too close to the stage. For seated shows I recommend sitting in third row or back. Love this place and will, most certainly, be back again and again. As far as The Musical Box, I will see them anytime they place in NJ or NYC, they are that good!
If you missed seeing Peter Gabriel and Genesis in the 70's or want to see them again this is the show for you. Not just the hits but the amazing sounds of that time. Very entertaining.
OMG!!! if your a fan of old Genesis, you have to see Musical Box! By far the best cover band iive ever seen
TMB are always extraordinary but this show had more energy and humor than usual. I've seen them about a dozen times and it's always a fun night out. I love PG era Genesis but never saw them. TMB are the next best thing. Hearing the music live and performed accurately is an experience. The recreation of the visuals - the stage, the costumes and "Peter's" performance - is brilliant.
I would NEVER miss these guys and I've seen the REAL GUYS twice do England and Lamb. If your a fan of Peter Genesis don't miss it
Any lover of the old Genesis music will love this band. I have seen them before and will see them again. Very talented group of musicians, they put on a great show.
House full of 60ish year old men and women.. Absolutely spot on reproduction the the 1973 tour, exacting instrumentality and Gabriel like stage presence. Next year, The Lamb Lies Down, woo-hoo!, can't wait! I saw these guys do the "The Lamb" about 6 years ago in Manhattan. Get tickets the day they go on sale, you won't regret it. BobWhittemore
Recreation of the Genesis tours is amazing! It was awesome to see 3 generations rocking out!
Musical Box was flat out awesome, playing the majority of "Selling England by the Pound". Amazing stageshiw & musicians enhanced by an intimate venue. 100% recommend if you are an early Genesis fan!
Every year the Musical Box gets more and more exciting and inviting. The set list is appealing, even though everyone knows it well. Highlights.. most awaited songs are The Musical Box and Supper's Ready. Performed with extreme musicianship, it defines theatre rock at it's most mistyfing climax. Not to miss! Catch it More than once.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Genesis has been 'my band' since I was 14 in 1975. I have seen them many times 'post-Gabriel', and this concert is something I will (hopefully) go to again sometime. If you like Genesis Live, Trespass, Selling England By The Pound, Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot, then you cannot fail to love this band and this concert. To call them a tribute band is incorrect and demeaning. They put on a 100% complete and faithful re-enactment of Genesis in concert circa 1973 (but I suspect with a much better sound system and fewer synthesizer problems). Down to 'Phils' dungarees they are right on. 'Pete's' costumes are apparently EXACT reproductions of those he wore; his make-up, mannerisms, movements, speech patterns, stories, and singing were authentic Gabriel. They even included (presumably faking it) guitar and synth tinkering and tuning between songs while Pete told his stories - the actual reason he started telling them in the first place is to fill the dead air while Mike, Steve, and Tony re-tuned. Obviously an actual Genesis get-together will never happen now that Phil is so physically impaired, and Peter has always been reluctant, so go and see Musical Box instead - this is absolutely as close as you could possibly get to seeing the band live in 1973. They opened with Watcher of the Skies, and closed with an encore - The Knife, and in between covering 2 hours in total (without a break) they included ALL of the best including Firth of Fifth; Suppers Ready; I know What I Like; The Musical Box; etc. Everything up to but not including The Lamb ( a slight shame, since I would have loved to have seen Carpet Crawlers...but that would not have been true to their reproduction and I've seen it plenty over the years). Go see this concert - you will not be disappointed. But beware the cost of cocktails at The Rose in Pasadena - expensive! Your bar bill will soon add up.
I really enjoyed the show. This was the second time seeing it at this venue. The first time, in 2015, we were a little late and our front row seats were given away. That was infuriating so this time, we arrived early and had a great meal. It seems the venue is still working out the kinks with the dinner requirement. We did see some late comers shown to their seats AFTER the dinner time ended. I could have saved myself $165! But back to the show. The Musical Box are consummate professionals, delivering a spot on rendition of early Genesis material. Fans were not and will not be disappointed. However, I'm not sure if maybe they've been doing it for too long. Some of the musicians look a little bored. But all in all, a great evening! Food and service was great.
These guys are awesome!!! There's no other words for them!! I've seen them 3 times already and they are sooooo good!!!! The whole show they put on is amazing!!
AWESOME!! Never saw them before and Im SOOO grateful for friends telling me about them as a LONG time OLD Genesis fan. I had a smile on my face the whole time, it was like I was 18 again and haven't been this satisfied at a concert for I dont know how long. Seriously, if you are into Genesis PRE Trick then PLEASE, I implore you to go!!! Brilliant job Mates! Brilliant!!
Musical Box was so good I'm going to see them again in a couple weeks! Highly recommended.
What a great concert! I was so impressed with all of the dedication on stage. The music was perfect as were the vocals. Loved all of the costume changes. I vote for more encores.
If you’re a genesis fan, don’t think twice. This is the greatest concert/show you could have wished for. The band is just amazing. I will definitely see them again and again.
