  • The Musical Box - absolutely go

by smoknbobjd on 3/7/18Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

My first live concert was a Genesis show in 1983. I loved it, but always felt I missed out, having never seen Gabriel era Genesis. Experiencing The Musical Box performing Selling England by the Pound helped to sate a craving I thought otherwise would have raged forever. The artistry of The Musical Box, in its recreation of Gabriel era Genesis was amazing. The instruments were era appropriate, and I could now finally understand how Genesis managed to perform their early work live, because I witnessed it. The lead singer, Denis Gagne, really commits to his role, and the eccentricities and costume changes were great. As Ticketmaster's system seems to be indicating that my review will be scoring the venue rather than the act, I will add that I was surprised by how good the sound was at the Sound Board.

This is the second time seeing the Musical Box. For any fan of the older Genesis music, this show is a MUST. They recreate the music perfectly and the song selection is exactly what the crowd wanted to hear. Great to see them in a small venue. Cant say enough about the Musical Box.

I am too young to have seen the original Genesis lineup. I grew up with my parents listening to those early albums over and over. They're a part of me. This show could not possibly have done a better job of making me think I saw the original band. The musicianship was unbelievable. I will see this band every time they come through my area.

  • Genesis to the Max!

The Musical Box recreates Genesis as if you were back in 1973 (The Gabriel years). The guy that plays Peter Gabriel has him down pat! He has all the costumes just like Peter had and mimics him to the T! If you like Genesis, the Gabriel years, this is a must see! Also the bad it's self plays their parts very well too. They look and sound as if you were back in the early 70's! SEE THEM WHEN YOU CAN!

Third time to see them and the show was fantastic. Glad they finally made it to Indy. Saw them in Louisville and Atlanta. Wish they had announced here before we bought for St. Charles, also. Enjoy their talent and detail!

Selling England by the Pound show. Fricking awesome!! They recreate the old Genesis to a tee!! Encore included 4 songs from the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

  • 20 Monroe & The Musical Box

by DanoTMano on 3/5/1820 Monroe Live - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

Venue is well designed. The album was before my time so out of context. The guests were rather rude, standing in the aisles, blocking the stage and talking. Just clueless. The Musical Box is first class.

  • Go to Mucial Box

If you get a chance, go see Musical Box. They are the best tribute band of any kind and you will be blessed. The Venue Monroe 20 in Grand Rapids was great too, very friendly staff and you didn't have to wait in line out in the cold for too long.

  • The Music Box is not Genesis hit songs

by LovingLife1960 on 3/5/1820 Monroe Live - Grand RapidsRating: 2 out of 5

I thought this was a tribute band that played Genesis hit songs. Boy was I wrong. It's more of a musical based on the song 'The Music Box'. Most of the people sitting around us were very disappointed as well.

You'd swear it was Peter Gabriel. Excellent recreation of the Gabriel era Genisis Black Show. A must see next time they perform it. The theater was wonderful too. Nice atmosphere.

  • Great show in a great venue

Simpy put, if you're a fan of the original Genesis lineup including Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett and they're prog-rock anthems, then you will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE The Musical Box. They have spent more than 20 years perfecting their shows to be as close to authentic as possible. If you quint a little (and forget that Mike Rutherford is right-handed and Phil Collins is left-handed) you'd swear you had traveled back in time. The Musical Box is in possession of and uses in their act some of the original sets and props from Genesis (check out some old videos if you don't believe me!) They also use, in most cases, vintage instruments. In the show at NYCB Theatre this caused a delay between the main show and the encore when "Mike Rutherford's" double-neck bass/guitar did not work. Eventually they got it going and launched into incredible renditions of three tunes from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Apparently they will be doing the entire album in their 2019 tour! Can't wait! A few words about NYCB Theatre. For my money you simply cannot find better sound quality ANYWHERE in the tri-state without going to Lincoln Center (I have never been to Carnegie Hall). The King's Theatre in Flatbush is close, but since the renovation of NYCB several years ago, the sounds has been consistently clear & distortion free. I love listening to shows there. The rest of the venue is very nice. All the seats are new and comfortable and they've upgraded their offerings at the refreshments/bar. The other night we even seemed to get out of the parking lot quicker than I remember doing so in the past.

  • Musical Box excellent as usual!!

by vodkablutarsky on 2/27/18The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

Musical Box was in fine form again with Selling England by the Pound show. (I think this was my 8th or 9th time seeing them since my 1st show during the 30th anniversary of the Lamb show in 2004.) They did a different encore this time with 4 songs from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. These guys are so good you think you were back in the 1970's watching Genesis with Peter Gabriel. The musicianship was superb and singer Dennis Gagne could pass as Peter Gabriel's identical twin from the 1970's. I look forward to seeing them again next year. I also appreciated the security personnel stopping the idiots using smart phones trying to take photos or video which was clearly forbidden by signs at all venue entrances.

  • Visual & Auditory Pleasure

by Chocolatethedog on 2/27/18NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburyRating: 5 out of 5

If you are a Genesis fan, this is THE show to see. They look and sound like the real thing and it's a blast to be in that environment. Plus, I think each show focuses on a particular albumn, so you get the full experience, and they add a little more at the end. This show was Selling England, with a little Lamb thrown in at the end. Lovely!

  • Musical Box nails it once again!

4th time seeing them and always enjoy it!! They are such a tight band! Glad to see them add some LLD tracks to the set. Hoping next year they perform "Carpet Crawlers". They never disappoint.

  • Loved the Lamb Encore!

by mommayce on 2/26/18The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

The Musical Box did not disappoint! I have sen them a few other times, but this show topped all because they announced that they are working on a new show to come next year...I am ready! My only complaint is "NO PHOTO TAKING OR VIDEO RECORDING" by request of the artists...come on! They are a cover band, and we are paying for this and should be permitted to take pictures (gee, I can;t even upload photos to use with my review because, if you even looked at your phone, the ushers were shining their flashlights in your face. Lighten up this restriction and I'd have zero negative comments!
