About

Moody Blues On Tour

The Moody Blues are '60s English rock band known for their progressive rock sound and their role in creating the "concept" album. The group originally started out as a rhythm and blues band, but with the release of their 1967 album Days of Future Passed, the band created a sound that was a mix of classical and rock music. Days of Future Passed is widely considered the first concept album and their fusion of rock and classical music was dubbed art rock or progressive rock. The Moody Blues released 12 more albums after Days of Future Passed until they took a break from recording between 1991 and 1998. During the break, they toured extensively all over the world performing on stage with a live orchestra. In 1999 they released Strange Times their first Top 20 album since 1983's The Present, and they followed that release with 2003's December. To date, The Moody Blues have sold over 70 million albums worldwide, and they've had 18 platinum and gold albums. About the Show The Moody Blues live shows are a bit like traveling back in time with some old friends you know well but haven't spoken to in awhile. The music is fun and familiar even if everyone is a bit grayer while enjoying it. The show will see their most successful album, Days of Future Past, played in its entirety and in sequential order for the first time on tour. Expect to hear many of their other hits as well, and with a discography spanning 50 years, they have many fan favorites to choose from. The band is fully aware of their "old guy" status being in their seventies and still touring, so expect to hear some self-deprecating jokes regarding their age and longevity in the business. Ultimately the band puts on a wonderful performance that will appease fans regardless of whether you've been a fan for 50 years or discovered the group in recent years.

    Every Song Was a Hit

by AdventurousInOC on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Although I went to hundreds of concerts during the seventies and owned several of their albums, I never saw the Moody blues live. I had forgotten just how much fabulous music these guys created. They played very well together and their performance was flawless. What a wonderful trip down memory lane. "Once upon a time in our wildest dreams..."

    Moody's still got it

by Tbg1 on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

The Moody Blues are an excellent example of mainstream 60's and 70's pop music. Their easy listening style will always be appreciated. I suppose it takes some of us 50 somethings back to our younger days.

    The Moody Blues were wonderful!

by Bonnieh1048 on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

They are as terrific as ever! Justin is still a powerful singer. The band puts on a good show, mixes up the songlist with their vast repertoire and gets a large audience on it's feet.

    MOODY BLUES ARE TIMELESS

by GOLOGO on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

These guys are unbelievable! A top hit for the past 40 years and their voices are still strong. They can still hit the high notes. Unlike a lot of the other groups of this era, except for the grey hair they are ageless

    Moody Blues 7-22-09

by tinavt on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

the band was amazing! the sound engineer, however, could not get his act together until about the last song of the set! so that was a huge disappointment.

by mindog on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Fourty years later, and they are going stronger than ever. The music was as big as it has always been, and the vocals were as strong as ever, not a missed note all night. We enjoyed the selection of music. It wasn't all "top hits". They played some favorites as well as some not-so-well-known tunes. Thank you guys for an amazing night. Moody Blues Still Rock!!!

    Terrific

by blabblab on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

These guys sound just like their records - but different enough to be really enjoyable. I've wanted to see them for years, I thought I was a moderate fan, but after the show, I'm hooked. Great music, they seemed genuinely thrilled with the positive response from the audience. Classy

    Moodies sound great

by KelleyRocker on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Vocal sound was a bit muddy, but the musicianship and songs were fantastic. Bigger crowd than I expected. Loved the earliest numbers, like Tuesday Afternoon, Nights in White Satin and Are You Sitting Comfortably.

I can't pick which one was great...they all were!

by Melogirl on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

I thought the entire concert was great, except I was hoping that they would play one of my favorite songs "Gemini Dream" which they didn't play. The original drummer was/is a hoot getting out there on center stage getting the crowd all revved up. I also liked the flautist on front stage...she added a lot of cool sounds up there.

    Loved the Moody Blues

by Meredith55 on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

We have seen them many times over the years, and they are always wonderful. Justin Heyward's voice is just as good as it ever was. Pacific Amphitheater is a terrific place to see a concert.

    Poor Sound Quality

by Gr8life on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

This was a "Retro" event. Just like an old car it needs to be tuned-up. Vocals were the mainstay for this band that I remember but not last night. The mixer clearly didn't know how to bring the vocals "UP" and were washed-out on many songs. I can forgive age of the lead vocals even the few times of voice pitch and crack problems. Bun not the sound Mixer! The woman/girl on the flute and percussion was the highlight of the sjo and not the Moody Blues who at times we joked might fall and break a hip!

    The Moody's are Always Good!

by Surfshark on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Justin's voice still sounds really good. The band is made up of 3 of the original Moody's and then some new members. They all are great musicians. They played for about 1.5 hours. The crowd was good. Not too many jerks or annoying young people with their stupid cell phones. It was a lot of fun for us.

    Just a bit above average

by RockinSteph on 7/23/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

LIked it, but have seen better. vocals were soft and the drums, although great. were overpowering. Nice set, mixing older and newer tunes. For the money, Smokey Robinson did a better show the week before. Would I go again? Maybe. The best part was the fans, who totally enjoyed it. But it passed me by.
