hadn't seen nygsp since i moved to Florida. They were more wonderful than I remember. I was able to get two extra tickets right next to mine for family that wanted to see the show last minute.

  • Poor sound quality

by Neville on 3/15/23Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 2 out of 5

The main singers were NOT individually miced up and the sound stayed on the stage and DID NOT project into the audience.

  • The Woke Mikado

by David on 3/15/23Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 1 out of 5

We (And many others) left at intermission. Could not hear/understand the lyrics. They added an unnecessary and confusing prequel making the production way too long. We were expecting to see an entertaining G+S operetta set in Japan. Couldn't figure out why they were wearing Victorian English costumes.

  • Poor sound

This was an excellent production, spoilt by the very poor sound. Needs improvement.

  • Seen Mikado many times over 45 years

by Mikado aficionado on 3/15/23Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 2 out of 5

Although there were several very talented singers in the production, the “cleaned up PC” new version was terribly disappointing. No Japanese make up or costumes. No bowing. I feel the people in charge have really misunderstood this operetta. G and S were poking fun at the British royal family, government, mores of the time. In that time , Britain was crazy for all things Japanese. They even started “Japaning” their Victorian furniture. All things Japanese were the craze. So I feel it’s a PC disservice in deleting so much from this show. Kudos to Katishaw. Very talented lady indeed.

  • Wonderful company

by Harriet on 3/25/19Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The New York Gilbert & Sullivan players have been around for over 40 years. This production of the Mikado has been rewritten slightly in order for it to be more politically correct. Restyled Costumes and some extra dialogue were inserted and I felt it all made sense. All of the performers not only were exquisitely good singers, but true comic actors. I'd see this production again in a second.
