    Marvin Gaye Story

by Coco1955 on 6/27/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

The play was very good. I learned things that I did not know before and understood a little more about the life of a talented man. The singing was fantastic and the venue was such that no seat could be said to be a bad seat. I would recommend.

Lively. Enjoyed the performances and development of play. Very informative, providing a window into the soul of a painfully tormented and troubled soul of a rare talent. In hindsight, his pain was projected in his lyrics.

An animated and well presented show! Marvin Gaye would have been proud to see his life and music so well presented. Actor Rashawn Thompson captures the essence of Marvin in capturing Marvin's gestures, nuances and energy on stage. Thought provoking, well researched and well presented The Marvin Gaye Story is worth seeing.

Excellent play.Never knew the personal Marvin Gaye..just the entertainer..the music was beautiful because they were song like the record, not like some adlib version in concerts...the acting was very good outside of the actress who played the mother in which her acting was excellent....reminds me of Kimberly Elise acting...I broke my leg the day before and still went to see the play..convenient parking also..I will go again if my leg starts to feel better..

    This Play was Inspiring!

by Wishful1 on 6/19/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

I really loved this play. It gave insight to why Marvin Gaye struggled so much in life. It also tells the story of a very determined yet insecure mother who stuck to her values. It is so interesting how people can get twisted God's intention for our life. The intention is for a happy, healthy and prosperous life. The mother was even willing to cover the improprieties of her husband. In the end, the story was a very compelling story about forgiveness. It was a great reminder for me. I loved it! Love it! And may I say I loved it! again. I encourage others to see it.

Marvin Gaye was an entertaining songfest

by ssand24444 on 6/17/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

The Marvin Gaye Story was well acted, well sung, well directed. The Motown songs in the show brought back memories. The only suggestion for improvement I can make is to find a Smokey Robinson lookalike who can sing!
