    Marvin Gaye Story was Awesome!!!!

by TAH800 on 8/5/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

Cast did a great job for the size of production. Performance met my expectation. Didn't expect crowd participation though! Funk Brothers Band (stand-ins) were great too!

    Great Show!!!

by justice51 on 8/2/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

The play was so hot. The guy that played Marvin Gaye, Rashawn Thompson, did an excellent job and the guy who played his father, Donald Barnes was so good people in the audience were booing him because of his depiction of the abuse Marvin's father was said to have put upon the family as a whole. The songs and the band was absolutely fabulous!!! I really enjoyed the show. Rashawn also was good in the Jackie Wilson Story as well as Melainie Mccloullough who played Tammi Terrell and Janis Gaye.

it was a decent play, learned alot about Marvin Gay

by lelamay on 7/29/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

The play was cool. I expected a little more though. I wasn't blown away, but I did learn a lot about his life. A lot of singing, too less of acting. That's just my opinion though.

    Awesome!!!!

by jesusislord1 on 7/21/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

It was so amazing how well the play was put together. All the actors and actress played their part well. I enjoyed the entire play. I especially enjoyed Rashawn Thompson as Marvin Gaye his singing and his moves was just like Marvin. Yahdina U-Dean as Alberta Gaye she brought tears to my eyes at the end of the play. I was in Chicago for my vacation. I'm from Michigan and I would like to know if The Marvin Gaye Story will be coming to Detroit? I have been telling everyone I know about the play. I want to Thank Jackie Taylor for this wonderful production. Please let me know when are you coming to Michigan.

by Seeyasoon on 7/20/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

This play was excellent. The comprehensive story line captured Marvin Gaye's incredible life and went a step further to impress the importance of learning from the tragic events. They are life's lessons which when applied benefit everyone.

The Marvin Gaye Story- Great Depiction of his Life

by HardCo on 7/18/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

I loved everything about the play, the acting, music, the quality of information received about his life and the play's atmosphere was very intimate. I felt very connected to the play because the actors did a great job of drawing you in. The actor that played Marvin may not have looked similar to the real Marvin Gaye but he had his demeanor and mannerisms down pat!

    Lacks inspiration

by miatas on 7/16/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

Music is always good. Performance lacked inspiration. Best solo was by Marvin's mother.

by Giggleegoos on 7/15/12Black Ensemble Theatre - Chicago

If you missed this show, you truly missed an amazing display of talent. The actors and actresses were phenomenal, they put their souls into this performance! It was well done and I know it made Marvin Gaye's family proud. I believe the spirit of Marvin Gaye penetrated the soul and psyche of the actors that played him and his mother! Outstanding!

    Mixed feelings about Marvin Gaye

by rahman1215 on 7/9/12Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center - Chicago

The show was at least 30 minutes too long and the acting of the Mother was overwrought. Learned a lot about Marvin Gaye's dysfunctional life and his father who was portrayed as basically a monster.
