Formed by guitarist/composer Omar Rodríguez-López and singer/lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta rose from the ashes of El Paso punk-rock firebrands At The Drive-In in 2001. Ona mission to "honor our roots and honor our dead", The Mars Volta made music that fused the Latin sounds Rodríguez-López was raised on with the punk and underground noise he and Bixler-Zavala had immersed themselves in for years, and the futuristic visions they were tapping into. The albums that followed were one-of-a-kind masterpieces, their songs of breath-taking complexity also possessing powerful emotional immediacy. After the group fell silent, a legion of devotees (including Kanye West) kept up an insistent drum-beat for their return. Now-a year after 'La Realidad De Los Sueños', aluxurious 18-LP box-set compiling their back catalog, sold out its 5,000 print run in under 24 hours-The Mars Volta are back.
Throughout their career, The Mars Volta have brought played many famous venues to capacity, like Tabernacle in Atlanta and Terminal 5 in New York.

TMV did not disappoint for a second. They were absolutely amazing, sounded perfect and I wish I could relive it over and over again
This show was absolutely amazing! Omar & Cedric are on top of their game, and this concert was all that I expected, plus more! The rest of the band was equally top notch, and I can’t wait to see them live again soon.
I have no complaints about the service of the venue or anything of that nature. It has been 14 years since I saw the Mars Volta at the Aragon and I was very excited. As a guitarist I enjoy Omar the most out of the band but love them as a whole. The guitar was somewhat audible for the first few songs and then I could rarely hear it at all. I even moved from being up against the barricade after a while to check if my position was affecting the sound. Whoever ran sound for that show ruined possibly my last chance to see one of the my favorite bands. The performance was great but I couldn’t hear the part I love most. I was severely dissatisfied.
Venue wayyyy over capacity, literally no standing space, no proper AC running, horrible sound quality, and security guards who find it necessary and okay to push people standing ‘in their way’ around. Had to leave after 10 minutes, and four tickets went to waste. Been to several thousand shows in my lifetime all around the world, and never ever had an experience like this. Will be avoiding Aragon Ballroom shows from now on.
I'm not gonna write a whole big thing. Nobody that is even remotely interested in attending one of these shows needs a review to convince them to go. I'll just say this... I have seen them play every show they have ever played in Chicago and this was by far the best one I have ever seen. They are playing and singing at their best and I would 100% catch them again on this tour if I could.
Didnt like the setlist but felt like the concert dragged.
The Mars Volta show succeeded all my expectations. Sound was great and they gave it all in the presentation. It’s a show everyone should see.
Love the new venue renos and how well the event was managed. The band delivered an incredible performance.
Old hits sounded great, new songs sounded great. Amazing musicians, they play with such technique but so much soul and power! Cedric's voice was on point. Omar was flawless as well. The staff at Massey Hall quickly got us into our seats. It was a great venue for this show, the sound was perfect. One of the best shows of the year for me. Probably the best.
After a decade-long hiatus, this concert was everything I'd hoped for and more! It will be a priority for me to see them wherever they come to the DMV.
I had to lean back every few minutes because I was so overwhelmed with joy, the set was perfect
Everything about it was perfect- the song choices, the performance, the energy in the crowd and on stage, just incredible. Thank you all for putting on this show.
Mars Volta was on fire! The tempo, sound and interpretation of classic and new songs alike was spectacular. The Anthem is a most beautiful venue!!!
Mars Volta was my first concert and this was a perfect return. I love Omar and Cedric and the whole gang
The Mars Volta could be the best live performance of all time! High energy and played for 2 hours straight. Will absolutely be seeing them again asap. The anthem is a beautiful clean venue with great sound
Really enjoyed the show and the energy that the band brought to the stage. Everyone was on point and I will continue to see their shows as I have since 2006. Thank you Omar, Cedric and the rest of the musicians for showing us a good time
That was a great show! My boyfriend loves Mars Volta so we went; I didn’t know much of their music before we went. The show was awesome, they’re phenomenal musicians; I had an awesome time!
The Mars Volta were excellent. The venue was nice. But their handbag policy was poorly communicated and really inconvenient. Don’t bring a bag to the venue, wish they told us before we were already in line.
They came out and just killed it. Played for over two hours non stop. A band at the top of their game. They should be HUGE.
