About

Formed by guitarist/composer Omar Rodríguez-López and singer/lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta rose from the ashes of El Paso punk-rock firebrands At The Drive-In in 2001. Ona mission to "honor our roots and honor our dead", The Mars Volta made music that fused the Latin sounds Rodríguez-López was raised on with the punk and underground noise he and Bixler-Zavala had immersed themselves in for years, and the futuristic visions they were tapping into. The albums that followed were one-of-a-kind masterpieces, their songs of breath-taking complexity also possessing powerful emotional immediacy. After the group fell silent, a legion of devotees (including Kanye West) kept up an insistent drum-beat for their return.  Now-a year after 'La Realidad De Los Sueños', aluxurious 18-LP box-set compiling their back catalog, sold out its 5,000 print run in under 24 hours-The Mars Volta are back.

Throughout their career, The Mars Volta have brought played many famous venues to capacity, like Tabernacle in Atlanta and Terminal 5 in New York.

  • Absolutely great show and venue

by Jfur930 on 10/4/22MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing the band and first time at this venue. Whole experience was great and will be searching for more shows at this venue.

  • One of the best show ever and i saw a lot.

Cedrik still got a nice, clear and loud voice after all those years

  • Greatest show of my life

by The Biggest TMV Fan Of All Times on 10/4/22MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show, amazing weekend in Boston, best show I’ve seen and I’ve been to many many shows in my life. Long live The Mars Volta, I’m definitely coming back to Boston if ever they don’t get to come by Montreal.

  • The Mars Volta

by MJG on 10/4/22MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I cannot believe how good the show was. I was just happy to go see Omar & Cedric in general - I didn't expect them to put on a complete throwback performance. Cedric's voice didn't miss a beat, Omar was incredible and the band played really well. The Drummer Especially, named Linda Tsoungui was incredible. The drums are really demanding in the songs they played and she was phenomenal. The venue was great too- brand spanking new- opened literally 1.5 months ago.

  • Best show I’ve ever seen 🤯

by Jersh on 10/4/22MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

One of my favorite bands, they inspired my guitar playing soo much! They sounded amazing live, Cedric can still belt out those high notes like a true professional

  • 10 years gone, and worth the wait!

by Jonny Monroe on 10/4/22MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 5th time seeing The Mars Volta, and this is one of the best concerts I have seen! This lineup was only 5 people on stage and they pulled it off like absolute pros (some songs required multi-instrumentalist capabilities) Cedric's vocals were on point and his energy and dance moves were on fire as usual. I didn't see Cedric hop on a full-stack and start dancing, but he still brought that 'have you ever seen this before' energy to the stage and demonstrated his masterful handling of the mic and stand. Omar's guitar was beaming through so clear, which was likely in part because he was the only guitarist - and wow you can really tell how clean his lines and rhythms are. Goodness, Cedric and Omar are among the greatest musicians or our day. (and everyone in the band appeared to be truly phenomenal performers, we will never have another Ikey, but the new key player definitely seemed to be inspired by that late great.) A+++++++++++++++

  • It was okay.

by Mikey on 10/4/22MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

Not sure if I've been to this MGM venue for a concert before, but it's not a good venue for music, judging from this experience. It seems like it was built as primarily a money making venture. (As if the Truly(TM) brand roof deck wasn't a dead giveaway there.) Some of what lacked could maybe be blamed on the sound engineer on duty, and I've also seen what I think were better performances from Omar and friends, but overall I think this venue is just a big box cynically set up to be loud; the space wasn't designed to sound good. The music sounded better in the bathroom than in the main room at times.

  • Probably the best solo act show I’ve ever been to

by M on 10/4/22MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Granted, I haven’t been to hundreds but the opener and Mars Volta were excellent. Both Cedric and even Omar were very entertaining aside from showing just how much skill they have as musicians as well. My only negatives about the show had much more to do with MGM. The coat check lines were pretty disastrous as well as merch, there is no downstairs bathroom?? And I was seated in the 4th floor. The sound up there was a little janky at some moments and was overall a bit distorted (my videos from up there v videos from people I’ve seen in the pit sound very different) Do I recommend Mars Volta? YES YES YES. Do I recommend MGM? Only if you choose a seat in the lower levels.

  • The best show I've ever seen

by Jen on 10/1/22The Met Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

My favorite band, reunited after 10 years! Got to take my Son. This was the best night of my life. They sounded better than ever! They played everything I wanted to hear. Best show ever!

  • Incredible

by Danny on 9/30/22The Met Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

This band hasn’t lost any energy at all! Incredible performance, unparalleled stage presence. The opener was equally powerful. I still can’t believe this show wasn’t sold out.

  • Perfect.

by Niko on 9/30/22The Met Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The met is one of the only venues I’ve never seen a band perform at. It was also my first time seeing The Mars Volta live. Maybe the best show I’ve ever been to, the sound was incredible especially for a band as chaotic as them. I was worried it would be hard to follow the band but it was perfect. Raw energy felt through the entire performance. Incredible stuff

  • Holy Jesus!

by The Guy from mess2 on 9/30/22The Met Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Prior to this event best band I ever saw was Metallica. The Mars Volta absolutely blows Metallica show out of the water! The lighting on the stage added to the slight difference in a live show compared to the disk is absolutely breathtaking. This was the first time I had the chance to see them live but I’ve been a fan all the way back to at the drive in days. I have been so diehard on Volta that there albums are like little brain hard drives that hold key parts and story’s of my life.. there new self titled album is exactly what we fans wanted after not having a new album in years. The show was so amazing they played all my favorites from the new and past albums. If you don’t think this is the greatest band out there your missing out big time!

  • An all timer experience in a beautiful venue

by Baby on 9/30/22The Met Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve seen The Mars Volta perform 11 times in 19 years and this was their best concert that I’ve seen from them. Cedric, in particular, was on point. The venue was very nice with great sound and friendly staff. Driving to Philly from NYC for this show was worth it. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

  • An amazing, unforgettable first concert!

by FirstConcertGoerFromPhilly on 9/30/22The Met Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The Mars Volta is truly a gift from a divine source. All of the bandmembers played incredibly well, and were very on-point. I've been an avid listener since 2018, ever since TMV was first recommended to me by the Spotify algorithm. And it was all greatness and good vibes from there. This was worth every penny, dollar, buck, and dime.

  • Best musical experience of my life

by Dan Maniac on 9/28/22Tabernacle - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Seats were amazing. The Mars Volta sound better than they ever have. Cedric’s voice was perfect and he was hitting notes on pitch the whole night. We sat next to Johann Scheerer. The new drummer Philo was stellar.

  • Great band. Expensive venue.

    by Might B G on 9/28/22Tabernacle - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Tge show was amazing. The venue was the most comicly overpriced venue ive been to.

  • The Best Show!

by LoDro on 9/28/22Tabernacle - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

It's hard to find the words to describe this show. I feel like whatever I write wouldn't do TMV justice. I've been a fan for a long time and was thrilled to get a chance to see them again live! They're an amazingly talented band. This show, to me, felt like a once in a lifetime experience.

  • Absolute best show I’ve been to

by El Nalgon on 9/28/22Tabernacle - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

100% the best show I’ve seen. They absolutely killed it. There were some points during the show where every soul in that building was screaming the lyrics loud enough to where I couldn’t hear the band. Beautiful and borderline religious experience, and not only because we were at the Tabernacle (ATL)

  • The Mars Volta show was tight

by MMMMatt on 10/27/09The Electric Factory - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

Their vocals and music were very close to the recorded track, but infused energy of the performance makes this a must see event next time around.

  • by Goolay on 10/20/09Clutch Cargo's - PontiacRating: 5 out of 5

Mars Volta did not let me down despite the rumors that the band's live shows have been regressing as of late. There was not a moment during the show where I didn't want to hug the band and thank them for the beautiful music. I would love to see this show again! :D!
