About

Despite sharing their name with a northeastern state, the Maine formed in 2007 in Tempe, AZ, a collegiate suburb of Phoenix. Most of the bandmembers -- singer John O'Callaghan, guitarists Kennedy Brock and Jared Monaco, bassist Garrett Nickelsen, and drummer Pat Kirch -- were in high school at the time, and the guys wasted little time turning their '90s radio rock band influences into a familiar, infectious pop-punk sound. The Maine signed to Fearless Records and released a five-song concept EP, The Way We Talk, in 2007. After performing on the Vans Warped Tour one year later, the group issued a full-length debut album, Can't Stop Won't Stop, which was produced by emo-pop veteran Matt Squire. The record peaked at number 40 on the Billboard charts and caught the ear of Warner Bros. Records, who signed the Maine to a major-label contract in 2009. After releasing a deluxe version of Can't Stop Won't Stop later that year, the group returned to the studio, eventually emerging in 2010 with the sophomore album Black & White. ~ Steve Leggett, RoviDespite sharing their name with a northeastern state, the Maine formed in 2007 in Tempe, AZ, a collegiate suburb of Phoenix. The Maine is simply amazing!

by Anonymous on 6/14/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Even thought, i thought it was weird that The Maine didn't go last, The Maine played an amazing show!!! John O'Callaghan (lead singer) kept talking to the crowd in between songs and keeping us entertained. He would toss out water bottles if people were saying they were thirsty. The bass player Garrett Nickelsen gave me his half drunk water bottle, which i had him sign after the show. Most of the band came out to take pictures, sign posters (or water bottles) and talk with fans after the show. Augastana also did an amazing job! They played over 20 songs and their on core was a couple of songs which included Boston. Over all this concert was amazing and i will definitely be going to another one of The Maine's concerts!!

    bands great, crowd annoying

    by AugustanaFan83 on 6/14/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

All 3 bands where fantastic! I went for Augustana and they never let me down. The crowd of teen age girls and drunks where the only downside to this event. It was my first time seeing The Maine and Austin Gibbs but I would see them both again.

    Awesome Night

by Karizzzy on 6/14/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

The show was so much fun. Even better than I expected. Aside from the show being amazing, I was really impressed with the Venue. This was the first time I've been to the Wonder Ballroom since the remodel, and I kinda loved it. :] Also, I don't know if they had AC going or if it just happened to be a really cold night, but I was SO thankful that it wasn't muggy and hot and hard to breathe in there.

    Meh

by GeminiDragon848 on 6/14/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

I went to this show because I saw Augustana in 2008 and it was honestly the best show I'd ever seen up to that point. I went into this having never heard of the Maine which is still totally fine with me - I left after only 10 minutes of their performance because their music just really wasn't for me... not to mention the audience full of screaming teenagers who had never heard of Augustana either. Anyway, as an Augustana fan before this album came out, I had high expectations for this show. However, full verses of classical songs were changed during the show, the band never really addressed the audience (which I suppose is alright, really), and the passion for the music was totally gone. Disappointed to the extreme, but I still had a good time. I think the pairing of these bands for this tour was a terrible idea. They're nothing alike in music nor audience and the fact that such big bands had to share a stage with one another was extremely detrimental to their performances.

The show was absolutely, in one word, AMAZING. Everything about it was absolutely perfect. Austin Gibbs warmed up the crowd really well. Augustana was, in my opinion, by far the best of the night. They are such an underrated band, it's really kind of sad. They were absolute perfection. You could tell that they really loved what they did--it was an unforgettable set. Absolutely blew my mind. The Maine was also really great. The crowd adored them, to say the least. They also played a brand new song, which was absolutely amazing. Overall, it was just an awesome concert. The best one I've ever been to, no contest.

    Augustana is amazing..the maine sucks!!

by Anonymous on 6/13/11The Masquerade - Atlanta

Ok so this was supposed to be a co-headlining tour but the Maine was definitely the focus. I love augustana and I have no idea why they played with the maine. Augustana and Austin Gibbs were both amazing! The majority of the crowd was filled with screaming girls and I felt like I was at a Justin Bieber concert. I hated the Maine because they sounded like very other punk-pop band in America. I wish it would have been just Augustana and Austin Gibbs, or atleast equal.

    A knock out performance

by iamjeffrey33 on 6/13/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

I've only been a Maine fan for a little over a year and a half now, but out of this year of discoverying them i've seen them live 3 times and each time they get better and better. The Shoxbox show was by far my favorite, the crowd was roudy but not forceful/pushy like i've experienced in the past. It was fun and simply full of energy. What i've learned from their past headliner is that when you go to a Maine concert you can always expect some well delievered duets with their fellow tourmates. This time around, they (Austin Gibbs, Augustana and The Maine) covered Tom Petty's "Walls" and Ryan Adams "Dance All Night," both being standout moments of the night. Other factors that make going to a Maine concert so great is that each tour will undoubtedly consist of songs they haven't played live before, except for a few fan favorites of course. I was really pleased to hear them play "Don't Stop Now," "Color," and "Saving Grace," because these are the 3 songs that made me love them as beng true artist not afraid to change up their sound so early in the game. Plus, they even go as far as putting a never-before-heard song on the setlist. So, if you like their music in studio form then you'll love them live. They're definitely a band not to miss live. The only disappointing factor of the night was not having enough time after the concert to meet every single band/member. It's crazy how many fans are willing to wait for the musicans they love. But dispite this minor factor, the show itself was a home runner. See for yourself on their next tour!

    So Amazing

by britth2 on 6/13/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

This is the 5th time I have seen Augustana and again I was blown away. His voice gets better and better. Absolutely loved it. Stayed for part of the Maine, but didn't really care for it. we left early. But I will never miss a Augustana show, they put a smile on my face everytime and always seem to enjoy themselves on stage!

I hope The Maine keeps playing tours like this.

    by hjthegreat on 6/8/11Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

This was the best tour that The Maine has been on yet regarding quality of music. I saw the tour the night before in Chicago and definitely thought that Austin Gibbs set stole the show. I've been a big fan of Austin Gibbs for a long time now so it's nice to finally see him out touring. I'm glad that The Maine seems to be maturing and growing with their fan base and bringing out bands that reflect their growth as well. I've also been a fan of Augustana for a long time as well. The Maine is always extremely entertaining live, I've seen them around 20 times since they started touring and each time their performance has only gotten better. My favorite moments of the show were when the entire tour package would come out on stage and play together. It's a lot of fun to know that people you care about really love what they're doing.

The Maine continues to take music to a new level!

    by NewSummersetFan on 6/8/11Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

I really enjoyed the show! The Maine rock with their music, interact with the crowd and take the entire concert going experience to a new level. Austin Gibbs was amazing. I heard him with The Maine at the Blue Moose in Iowa City - he is truly an up and coming top music name! Augustana's music was great - their set was maybe a bit long though! Overall a delightful experience - I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Augustana was great - as expected

    by Jamie9356 on 6/7/11Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

I honestly didn't know who The Maine was when the tickets were purchased. I went for Augustana and was not disappointed. I think they sounded great, and the new album is excellent. We stayed for a few songs of The Maine - and it wasn't that impressive so we left early.

Austin Gibbs The Maine and Augustana were awesome!

    by TheJuneBug on 6/6/11Clutch Cargo's - Pontiac

I've seen The Maine quite a few times, but this was by far the most unforgettable show I've been to. Austin Gibbs, the opener, captured the audience as soon as he took the stage. As someone who was fairly unfamiliar with his music, I was blown away by how quickly I found myself getting into his set. The chemistry between his band was insane; they looked like a bunch of guys just having fun and doing what they loved. His rough, rocker voice and catchy songs convinced me to buy his CD before his set was half-way through. The Maine, a band I've come to love for their on-stage energy and antics, were better than I've ever seen them. Their set was a great mix of older and newer songs, as well as a few sneak-peeks at tracks from their upcoming album. John O'Callaghan is still one of the most charismatic front man in modern music. At just 22 years old, he knows how he's got the crowd right in the palm of his hand, and he uses it to his advantage, chatting and playing games with the crowd during songs. It was the most fun I've had at a show in a long time. Augustana was the final band, and I can't say I knew more then one or two of their songs, but it was a great way to close out the evening. They sounded better live than they do on record, which is rare for me to find. Their set went on a little longer than I would have liked, but I found myself thoroughly enjoying every song, and making a mental list of downloads to make when I got home. For their encore, they had The Maine and Austin Gibbs back on stage, and all together they preformed a cover of Tom Petty's "Walls", which was a fun surprise. Everyone on stage looked like they were having a blast, and the audience responded to that immediately. Overall, the show was amazing, and I'd definitely recommend this show to anyone who's thinking about hitting up the last few dates of the tour.

    Augustana was awesome

by Lynn72 on 5/30/11Rams Head Live! - Baltimore

The concert was very good. The Maine had a lot of energy and had good stage presence. Augustana was great live but could have sung louder. They started out slow but played an impressive number of songs and had a great encore. It was an awesome experience. The music was awesome.

    augustana: well done

by SidJefferies on 5/29/11The Norva - Norfolk

Their songs are so strong. Sonically speaking their show was a knock out. Could have used a little more enthusiasm from the group though. No crowd connection to speak of. Still had a great time. Didnt stay for the Maine.

Augustana was aMAZing but the maine....?

by ohidaclaire on 5/25/11The Norva - Norfolk

Of course Augustana was amazing, maybe a bit subdued from the last time we saw them with The Traveling Circus. We did NOT see the maine, we left when Augustana was finished...that was a quick hour :(. We left because of the crowd that the maine attracks. Rabid 13-17 yo girls; there were probably only 10 people there old enough to drink and 4 of those were with me. So I give 5 stars for Augustana but can't say anything about the other group.
