Well worth the travel from down state.

by Deer Hunter on 1/16/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

This review is two-fold: As a parent, I would have been lost however I read the book the week prior to seeing the show. We only booked 1 week in advance. The price of the tickets was reasonable. The cast did a fantastic job in all their rolls. The humor was delightful. I am so glad my daughter asked to see the show. My daughter, a young teenager "LOVED" the show, she has read the whole series. She said it was much better than the movie. (Our last Broadway experience was Hamilton in Chicago)

    Amazing!!!

by Abby on 1/16/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

The Lightning Thief Musical did what the movie could not, to say the least it was absolutely amazing. The cast worked so well together, the lighting was gorgeous and the creative yet simple set brought it all together. It was a great show for anyone who is a fan of Percy Jackson or just a big Broadway fan. The show also included everything from the books and even some jokes and easter eggs from other books. Loved this show so much wish it was still in Chicago so I could see it again.

Very cool event with my granddaughter

by Carole B on 1/15/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

It was a wonderful play to see with your children or grandchildren especially if they've read all the books. My granddaughter said the play was true to the book. Seeing it on stage was very special.

    Fantastic!

by Chad on 1/15/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

I brought my family to this show because we are musical theatre fans and my kids are big Percy Jackson fans. Having not read the books myself I wasn't anticipating enjoying the show so much but it was fantastic. The music, the plot, and the acting were amazing. This is one of the most enjoyable shows I've ever seen and is fun for the whole family! You will not be disappointed!

    Amazing Birthday Celebration

by Happy Nana on 1/15/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

To celebrate my granddaughter turning 14 we surprised her with an overnight trip to Chicago to see her first musical, The Lightning Thief. The play was amazing! The set, the music, the costumes, the songs,, the humor, and the gifted actors performing in the historical Oriental Theater made for an unforgettable evening!

    Enjoyable Musical for all ages

by StbrnSuz on 1/15/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Our kids are huge Rick Riordan fans so when we saw they were doing a musical of the Lightning Thief we purchased the tickets for our family Christmas gift. Experience vs stuff. Annabeth was probably our favorite character - extremely talented...beautiful voice and really was into the character. Seemed to be a bit on the lower budget of things for the set but they did it really well. Using the scaffolding and wheelchair and props to the most. All characters not only played out their characters but you could tell they helped backstage too. Some of the actors played multiple parts but again it was done with such precision that it really made the musical enjoyable.

    Fun for the whole family

    by J. G. on 1/15/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

My children are 21 and 28 but we're hard all read the book, The Lightening Thief, Percy Jackson. Only one of us has listened to any of ther music which is completely unlike us and it wasn't dealing with life, death, mental illness, religion etc like our normal shows where we'r cry every time. It was a fun, innovative, original show done by an extremely talented cast capable of multitasking and quick changes! Props to the imagination of the special effects, .they were truly magical! We all had a blast!

    It was OK

by J. Q. on 1/14/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

Entertaining, but not the quality of production I expected from even a traveling Broadway in Chicago show. I'm sure the kids who were in attendance enjoyed it and by the looks on their faces they did. I'm confident the show was successful at introducing theater to them, but for more experienced theater attendees the show did not stack up.

    Great fun!

by unclerouse on 1/13/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

Although this show was far from perfect, it was one of the best times I’ve had at a musical! The audience was full of kids of all ages and their enthusiasm was intoxicating and infectious! Clearly we were all huge fans of the books and subsequent movies based on Percy Jackson. The cast was astounding in all of the responsibilities each of them had aside from their own individual roles: taking on miscellaneous props and other side roles - flying from one end of the stage to the other, out of sight for a moment and returning as someone else and/or carrying a piece integral to a scene. All of the actors’ voices were top notch leaving me at the edge of my seat, breathless!

    Unexpectedly funny!

by Felicia on 1/13/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

The actors did a great job portraying their different roles. The music was catchy and creative. The set changes were a bit sloppy and distracting.

    Action Packed

by M. H. on 1/13/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

An enjoyable show. Excellent work by cast and crew. Live onstage orchestra.... The songs were good but seemed a bit truncated and left me wanting more. The story line was good and the comic touches enhancing but again left me wanting something.... Scenery and special effects minimal which is not necessarily bad just don’t go expecting a major Broadway production.... Great show for exposing kids to theatre.

    Amazing!

by U. G. on 1/13/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

I took my 10-year-old son to see "The Lightning Thief" for our mother-son date. He has read all of the "Percy Jackson" books, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the show. Most of the actors played more than one role, and they all executed their roles extremely well. They are ALL talented actors! The show was entertaining, and it's amazing what they were able to accomplish in terms of special effects on such a small stage. It's a show you don't want to miss! GO SEE IT!

    Overall good show

by S. S. on 1/12/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

Music and singing is great, helps if you know story behind it. My granddaughter liked is a lot, according to her much better then a movie. Mostly for teens or preteens. Recommend as family outing.

Everything I hoped for and more

by S. C. on 1/12/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

Everything about this show is amazing. The cast is full of amazing actors; there are only seven of them and yet their presence fills the stage, and they transition from once character to another seamlessly. The set and costumes, while simple, fit the show perfectly. The songs are catchy and powerful, and the ending features a beautiful message for all ages.

    A Ton of Fun

by mouse on 1/12/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

The Lightning Thief is a ton of fun. Not an instant classic like Wicked or Hamilton, but highly entertaining and very true to the book. Sure, some things were changed for time purposes, but they're at least acknowledged. My only complaints would be that the sound mix was off and it was hard to hear some of the words, and that when they did some light effects the lights shone in my eyes.

    Was good for off broadway

by M. W. on 1/11/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

I went to opening night of Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief with my daughter. We sat in the balcony, first row. Seats were great. We could see everything including the pit which is positioned on scaffolding over the reusable props which were left underneath. Singing was very good! I hadn’t read any of the books so I was a little lost, but my daughter connected the dots when needed. Overall I enjoyed the show. Great show for families. I wouldn’t say it’s a date night show.

    Came up young

by Sophie on 1/11/19Oriental Theatre (Will become Nederlander Theatre on Feb 12) - Chicago

I am a fan of Rick Riordan‘s books, and definitely think that the show was funny, entertaining, and interesting. The songs were clever and the actors, especially Percy Jackson, were all talented. Over all, not that impressive from the standpoint of production value and performance from some of the actors. Also be aware that it is a kids show and kids filled up most of the audience, but all loved it and laughed and were entertained. Definitely worth a night of theater but not if there are other shows available.
