    Interesting

by Mariette on 4/25/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Not what we expected. Not sure what the unforeseen circumstances were that caused the adaptation. Actors did incredible with what they had to work with, but i’m wondering where the stage hands were? Story was a little hard to follow at times with the cut scenes and costume changes being so back to back.

Tons of fun for kids and adults!

by Alissa K. on 4/24/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

This is a great show for both kids and adults! Content is geared more towards middle/elementary school, my 8 & 10 yr. old loved it! The performances were amazing, all actors played multiple characters and their voices were incredible. We loved watching the actors change up their costumes to become a new character, and move the set around as the show went on. In all a really fun show!

Amazing Musical for Anyone and Everyone!

by Louise on 1/31/19James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

I'm a big fan of both the Percy Jackson books and the musical, so when I heard The Lightning Thief was going on tour, I had to see it! First off, the musical has an awesome, super catchy cast recording that I could listen to on repeat. (Seriously, go listen to it!) Second, The Lightning Thief has such a great, talented and diverse cast. It's kid (and adult!) friendly, and it's fun for people of all ages. I'm 14 and a huge Percy Jackson fan, so I speak from experience! The theatre was packed with parents, kids, toddlers, teens, young adults, etc. It's a show for everyone. Third, and maybe most notable of all, The Lightning Thief stays true to the book. For those who have read the books or are longtime fans, you will NOT be disappointed, I promise. You can really tell that the musical knows their stuff. They incorporate details from The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan in a natural, freeflowing way that doesn't stray too far away from the book, but isn't a complete copy either (unlike the movies, cough cough). That's what makes The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical; it takes what makes the book great, and they make it their own. The cast is dedicated to performing their best to bring you that great feeling of seeing all your favorite PJO characters come to life on stage, which makes it even more charming. Even if you're not a fan (yet) or haven't read the books, The Lightning Thief presents itself in a way that's simple and easy to understand, yet still makes it fun and enjoyable for everyone. All in all, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical has an electrifying score and cast recording, extremely talented diverse cast members, crew and musicians, and most importantly representation of the book that started it all. Again, whether you're a fan or totally new to the world of Percy Jackson, this musical is something anyone and everyone can enjoy. Seriously, I can't find enough positive adjectives to describe how amazingly gifted Chris McCarrell, Kristin Stokes, James Hayden Rodriguez, Jalynn Steele, Sarah Beth Pfeifer, and Ryan Knowles are, not to mention the great understudies! (P.S. The musical's Twitter is hilarious, go check it out.)

11 year old gives 2 thumbs up

    by M. C. on 1/21/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

My 11 year old loves this book and he was not disappointed by the show! I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It kept with the storyline from the book, but injected a lot of humor.

Great show for tweens. Adults will enjoy, as well.

    by R. on 1/20/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

I bought tickets as Christmas presents for my Nephew and Niece. My Nephew has read all Rick Riorden books. He loved the show! His sister had not read any of Rick’s books, no Percy Jackson, and she was entranced by the music and drama and the production.

    Fabulous!

by JAM on 1/18/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

The entire production was magnificent, and I am now the best Nana ever! My 12yr old grandson has read all the Percy Jackson books and this production thrilled him. He was animated and either smiling or laughing throughout, and he has memorized the music! We were both highly impressed with all the actors, the music, the staging, the special effects and the lighting.Thumbs up to the musical - thumbs down to the theater, which is stunning but has the worst seats ever. We had premium seats and we both needed a booster seat. The incline is all wrong. The Musical was around too short a time.

Best for a middle school audience

    by M.Hershey on 1/16/19Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

I took my two older teens to see this, and we were underwhelmed. The show seems very targeted towards the middle school demographic, so the writing was not very clever, the songs weren't memorable... the whole thing felt like a middle school production (with professional actors). Percy carried it well, although some of the other performers were just too over the top. We aren't sorry we went, but we would only recommend to younger kids (maybe ages 6-14).
