About

One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, THE KING AND I boasts a score which features such beloved classics as “Getting To Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.” Set in 1860’s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.

    Great Show!

by Debbie on 5/8/19Shubert Theatre - New Haven

The costumes & singing were absolutely marvelous. I really enjoyed the show. The reason for only 4 stars is because I saw the King and I with Yul Brenner and again at Lincoln Center and there was a ship on stage. At Lincoln Center the ship actually came part way into the audience. Using what looked like a raft made me think we were seeing Tom Sawyer. Anna's son was very good but sometimes spoke too fast and we couldn't understand what he was saying. All in all it was a wonderful show.!

by Penny on 5/7/19Shubert Theatre - New Haven

We took our 12 year old Granddaughter to the play for her birthday. She loves musicals and the experience of seeing a play. She had never heard of this play so I was a little nervous but she really loved it as did my husband and I.

    MAGNIFICENT!

by Kathy on 5/6/19Shubert Theatre - New Haven

I purchased tickets as a Christmas gift for my parents. They absolutely loved it, and they couldn't stop talking about it. My father said it was "Magnificent" and he even got a little chocked up when he was describing it to me.

    Fabulous Experience!

by Summer2010 on 5/6/19Shubert Theatre - New Haven

The King and I is a show that has it all.... great songs and a good story. This production added great actors with wonderful comedic timing (especially the king) and singers that will blow you away. One after another was surprisingly excellent. This production brought laughter, tears, and chills. Not only do I highly recommend this cast/show, I would go again!

    Girls Day

by Candy and Camdyn on 5/6/19Shubert Theatre - New Haven

I took my 6 year old granddaughter to see the play on Friday afternoon. This is her third musical and she loved it. She loved every song the set and the actors. This is the third time I have seen this play. We both were very impressed with Brandon Shan Chu who played Lun Tha, his voice is outstanding. Camdyn said it was just totally awesome and I agree

    Good Performance... mostly.

by David N Blondell on 5/1/19Lexington Opera House - Lexington

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed and were delighted with the performance of The King and I. We sat rather close and heard lots. However, both being in our mid and upper 80s - we don't hear everything. Particularly was that the case when some of the cast member were speaking and one or more of the orchestra members were also playing at the same time. For us, the orchestra at times drowned out the actors. Otherwise, we could not have enjoyed it more. Thanks for a tremendous performance.
