About

One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, THE KING AND I boasts a score which features such beloved classics as “Getting To Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.” Set in 1860’s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.

    Fun and energetic

by Skitch on 4/29/19Lexington Opera House - Lexington

The Lexington theatre was the perfect size for this production. The singers, dancers and especially the children were thoroughly enjoying their “work.” Thoroughly enjoyed the evening!

    Wonderful production!

by Pamela C on 4/29/19Lexington Opera House - Lexington

The Lexington Opera House is a beautiful theatre and a wonderful venue for the King and I. The play was everything that I had hoped for. Everyone was spot on and the music was fabulous.

by JBinLEX on 4/29/19Lexington Opera House - Lexington

My wife and I had a wonderful time. The Lexington Opera House is beautiful. The production of the play was outstanding and stayed true to the original. The actors playing the lead parts were excellent. Not much more to add... A very worthwhile experience!

Shall I tell you what I think of you?

by Erik on 4/17/19Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - Milwaukee

The King and I has been a long-time favorite of mine, so when I heard they were coming to Milwaukee, I had to jump on the opportunity. They were just as amazing as I expected. The performers were so talented, the costumes were stunning, and the performance was perfect. I loved every second; it was really Something Wonderful!

    The King and I (Touring)

by TD on 4/17/19Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - Milwaukee

Very impressed with the performance of the King and I (Touring) as well as Ulhlein Hall Marcus Center. I had never been there before and it was easy to get in and out of the parking area even though it was a snowy afternoon. The employees were very helpful and event was well staffed. The show was great....loved the little children of the "King". I wasn't really familiar with the musical and loved the humor throughout. I would highly recommend the show as well the venue to others.

    Underwhelming

by Chas on 4/17/19Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - Milwaukee

I have experienced theater from New York to San Francisco and every place in between. Traveling troops are typically not as well as set venues but can still be entertaining. With this consideration in mind, my opinion is this troop of regional performers was not a strong performance. I was most disappointed in how the king was portrayed. Instead of the king being regal with a loss of understanding for other cultures creating a humorous state, he was instead played as a fool to extend the humorous side. Had he not said he was a king, one would of thought of him as a jester of the court. I am not sure if this was an action of the performer or the director but it didn't work for me.

    Great musical, acoustics terrible

by KP on 4/16/19Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - Milwaukee

This beautiful musical could not be heard by many because of the terrible acoustics. The performance was fabulous but we could not hear many of the actors. Several people around us had the same problem. Not sure if we will return to this theater again.

Play was great but facilities lacking

by S. V. on 4/16/19Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - Milwaukee

very under staffed, limited restrooms, intermission was too short for people to use the restroom since there are not enough stalls for visitors. restrooms were dirty and low on supplies.

    Fun nite

by fortesque humperman on 4/15/19Uihlein Hall Marcus Center - Milwaukee

Loved the show, seemed to have things in it that were not from original version; stand in star was OUTSTANDING, so gracefully floating across the stage - had some sound issues and very hard to understand young boy when he spoke or sang, overdid the ballet in second half Hard to fine a man with pipes like yul Brenner but he did fine

    Great talent!

    by M. S. on 4/11/19Adler Theatre - Davenport

Enjoyed the performance!! Great talent! Venue seats weren’t comfortable for me as my knees were pressed against the seats in front of me. My shorter friends were comfortable but it was very tight for me (I’m 5’7”). We were in the middle balcony seats. Otherwise the venue was good.

    Broadway -caliber production.

    by N. M. on 4/3/19Scranton Cultural Center - Scranton

Music and dancing were wonderful -- as was the acting. Only complaint was in hearing some of the dialogue. We were over on the orchestra left side and could not understand all the spoken words. Couldn't understand a word from the teacher's son. But all in all a wonderful show.

Performance outstanding, audience not so much

by Suz on 4/2/19Scranton Cultural Center - Scranton

Just have to say that I am from NYC and moved to the NePA area recently so my standards are already high from Broadway and Off Broadway performances. The cast was great, the performance amazing but the audience in Scranton? Completely rude and disrespectful. The theater should be ashamed by its lack of enforcing proper theater etiquette. When the music starts, that is your cue to stop talking. So many people coming in late, talking during the performance, phones going off, people looking at their phones during the performance and distracting people with their screens. The Theater should make announcements before the show starts and enforce strict rules for those who do talk and ruin performances with their cell phones. Have staff make an announcement with strict consequences for those who break the rules, such as being asked to leave. That way the performance can be enjoyed by people who pay good money to see a high quality production like this.
