One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, THE KING AND I boasts a score which features such beloved classics as “Getting To Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.” Set in 1860’s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.
We had great box seats. The performance was amazing. Great company of performers. Thanks.
The show was wonderful. The cast was excellent and the musical numbers were awesome. The songs are such classics and the evening was well worth it!
Worth the trip and good. Would recommend. Only downside is that it is very long.
Wonderful performance. Acting, Costuming, Singing, Dancing made for an overall great theater experience. Thanks to everyone who made it possible.
Our seats were in the middle on the main floor. The costumes were absolutely gorgeous. The vocalists were exceptional.
My view of the right side of the stage was partially obstructed (about 1/5th) by a theater pillar support. It is the very back row (Orchestra - right) and there is plenty of room for them to move those four seats a little more over toward the left. Assisted hearing devices were straining to pull in a signal from the back of the theater - during the performance - when the people (several rows in front of us) would stand up to exit to go to the bathroom or bar - they would temporarily block the signal into static. Move your head a little to the left or right - signal would be lost. Tickets $150 each!!!!
We drove though rain and fog from Northern Virginia to the Hippodrome in Baltimore to see this show and it proved well woth the effort. The King and I was the most spectacular production of anytrhing that we have seen in years. The predominantly Asian cast, the voices, the costimes, the choriography, and orchestra were all superb, especially Angela Baumgardner as Anna and Paulina Yeung as Tuptim. Have recommended this road show to family and friends across the country to see it when it comes.
Mobile Ticketing is great! Show was good! Performers have great voices. The storyline has the potential to be very good. The jokes were okay!
"The King and I "was fantastic - the singing, the dancing, the costumes, the acting. The Hippodrome was great - parking, entrance, ushers.
My husband and I loved the performance. Would definetly see it again and would recommend it to anyone of all ages to go see...
This troupe overall was the best we have seen outside of London's West End. The actors playing Tuptim, Lun Tha, Lady Thiang, and the King all had very beautiful, expressive voices. The "weakest links", if there were any, were the actors playing Anna, Louis, and Captain Orton. "Louis" and "Captain Orton's" mics didn't seem to be working very well, and "Louis" spoke so rapidly and in such a high tone that I could barely understand anything he said. "Anna" had a lovely voice. It just isn't as dramatic and expressive as those of the other actors I mentioned above. Despite the few "flaws" I've mentioned, I still had tears in my eyes at the end. This is always a sign of a successful performance. BTW, the costumes were fantastic, dancing was wonderful, and orchestra was excellent.
The King and I was fantastic/outstanding/breathtaking. The performers were GREAT!!! I enjoyed very much!! Thank You for such a Great Performance!!!
There were a lot of accents on that stage and that made it hard to understand. Subtitles would have been great! The show was beautiful and the acting was top notch.
Loved music and costumes. Had a lot of trouble hearing the spoken lines!!!! We were in the orchestra 2 row P. Very sad because we paid a lot of money for those tickets!!!
Great show....fabulous music...never gets old. Excellent performance for both kids and adults.
Sets, costumes and lighting was excellent. Had trouble understanding the words of most actors. Very muddled. The principal characters were less than stellar, and it was almost as if the understudies would have been better. We have now seen three productions at this venue and this was the least favorite.
I really enjoyed the show but due to the length of the show it would have appreciated it starting earlier even by a 1/2 hr if possible. It would be nice if you can take snacks into concert hall especially during long shows like this. Overall great experience and show!
I loved this musical, with amazing cast. The voices, and the costumes were so authentic it made me feel like I was right there with them.
Loved everything about the performance, music, and scenery! The only thing that was disappointing was that Anne's son's parts were unintelligible. We didn't understand a thing he said.
It was a wonderful show! The King and I is one of my all-time favorite shows!
