About

The Guess Who are a Canadian rock band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The band released eleven studio albums, all of which reached the charts in Canada and the United States. Their 1970 album American Woman reached no. 1 in Canada and no. 9 in the United States, while five other albums reached the top ten in Canada. The Guess Who charted fourteen Top 40 singles in the United States and more than thirty in Canada.

The band found their greatest success in the late 60s and early 70s, under the leadership of singer/keyboardist Burton Cummings and guitarist Randy Bachman, with hit songs including "American Woman", "These Eyes", "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature", and "No Time". With Randy Bachman's exit in 1970, Kurt Winter joined the band and The Guess Who would go on to release the band's top selling album Share the Land. Songs such as "Hand Me Down World", "Hang On To Your Life", "Albert Flasher", "Clap for the Wolfman", "Runnin' Back to Saskatoon", "Star Baby", and "Glamour Boy" would follow.

The Guess Who officially broke up in 1975 with the exit of lead singer Burton Cummings. Cummings. Members of The Guess Who reunited a number of times over the years, with their last concert being in front of 450,000 at the Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto SARS benefit concert.

With Randy's powerful guitar work and Burton's distinct vocals and keyboard mastery, the duo continues to capture the spirit of what made The Guess Who a household name. They are more than just former bandmates -- they are ambassadors of Canadian rock, whose influence can be heard in countless acts that followed in their footsteps. Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, The Guess Who were pioneers who dared to dream beyond their borders--and succeeded on a global stage.

  • Guess Who - Nostalgic evening!

by Anonymous on 4/11/11Grand Casino Mille Lacs Event Center - OnamiaRating: 4 out of 5

The Guess Who had the sound and songs of yesteryear. They have had replacements in the group, but managed to keep the same sound, even to the vocalist. We got to hear all the great old music. They built us to a cresendo, cooled us down, and built to a final cresendo. Awesome show.

  • The Guess Who was renewed and rockin!

I have to admit, I was expecting little but got a lot. With their new front man and experienced old hands, the Guess Who brought it home when they played on April 9th in Minnesota. I thought without B.C and R.B. the integrity of their sound would diminish. Yet the entire act had the energy and enthusiasm from back in the day. If they come back to the tundra again, their heat will help thaw us out again.

  • The Guess who were amazing

Didn't realize that Chuck Negron would be singing seperate of the Guess who and for so long. I would have rather heard just The Guess Who and a longer Concert. They were AMAZING and their lead singer is soooooo good. Love them.

  • Tight and better than expected

We were a bit concerned with our seats having a possible "limited view". That was not the case and the concert was great. Putting Chuck with the TGW was the right fit. I only wish both sets would have been longer. I flew in from Pittsburgh to take my girl friend to the show and it was worth every penny.

I was skeptical how they would sound, but they nailed it. The same sound as 30 years ago and they got the crowd fired up. It was a blast!

  • Great Concert

by CoachGramps on 3/25/11Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

The band put on an amazing display of musical instrumentation that was also versatile. They made connections with the traditions of this genre and did an excellent job of performing their many hit numbers. Perhaps a few of the instrumentals may have endured a bit long, but they did demonstrate their talents as instrumental musicians, which were extensive.

  • The Guess Who rocked

Got to the Twin Rivers early, checked out my seats, great view of the stage. Got a couple of drinks, and proceeded to watch the show. Show made me relive my high school days when most of these songs were out. New lead singer, Derek, sounded close to Burton Cummings. It was a great show, and I can't wait to see them again.

For those who enjoy a trip down memory lane ... granted, no Bachman, no Cummings (not uncommon for the rhythm section of classic bands to keep the name and get studio musicians to round out the band) ... but if you were a kid or a teenager growing up with these songs in the 60's and 70's, you'll enjoy the show. Great job on the hits you want to hear (American Woman, No Time, No Sugar Tonight / New Mother Nature) and you'll probably hear other songs (like Share the Land) you remember but might not have known it was The Guess Who. I saw the show last year, same venue. To be honest, with limited concert dollars to spend and so many shows to see ... I was tempted not to catch this show. But the venue is five minutes from home, and the show was a Saturday night. And while sales were decent, its the type of event that if you're on line at the second they go on sale, you'll get in the first couple rows (I had front row, center section). Kind of hard to turn down a reasonably priced front row seat for a Saturday night show just a few miles from home. Glad I went!

Much better than their last performance at the Twin River Event Center 14 months ago. Sound was much clearer and the band was tighter. Garry Peterson was back on drums this time (he was not with them for medical reasons back in Jan '10). He's still one of my favorite drummers, very jazzy yet rock-solid. His drumming is an important element in the band's sound and presentation, I think: he seems to galvanize the band and they rise to the occasion. That spark was unfortuantely missing last year without Garry. A lot of audience participation this time around. Many left their seats to stand close to the front of the stage, and even those who didn't stood up at their seats for much of the show. Each player (they all sing) is an outstanding musician in his own right, as befits a band like the Guess Who in all their different lineups back in the day. Perhaps my only gripe is that, as I said in my review a year ago, their presentation leans a bit towards an '80's "hair metal" sound, and, though they could rock hard when needed, the Guess Who weren't a heavy metal band. The lead singer is more Brett Michaels than Burt Cummings, but he's quite capable: he sings all the numbers in the original keys without missing a note. He's a killer guitarist too on that black Les Paul Custom. All in all, highly recommended!

  • Best Guess

by Scal44 on 3/22/11Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

I saw The Guess Who at Twin River Event Center on March 19th. This show was fantastic! The band was tight, very entertaining, and a class-act from start to finish. The guys were very friendly at the autograph-signing after the show. Each one took the time to talk, and not just sign and turn away. I will definitely see them again, and I recommend them to anyone.

Definitely a great show! The Guess Who has plenty of hits to keep it exciting through the entire event!

They were a very tight knit group and I enjoyed the show . The band got the audience into the show. I would see them again if they were in the area.

  • The Guess Who

by rwejr on 3/22/11Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

The band was great playing their hits from the past. When they mixed it up and played something else they seemed like your everyday bar band. The concert was well done, the band did their best to interact with the audience and get us involved. My only wish is that Burton Cummins would have been there.

  • Great Show!

by LoafFan1 on 3/22/11Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

These guys rock! Smart move bringing in a young lead singer because the original doesn't have enough voice left to carry a show, still good but not strong enough (who would be at his age!) These guys did all the favorites and had this venue rocking.
