About

THE GROWLERS IN CONCERT:

SoCal garage and psych rock favorites The Growlers continued to evolve in 2014 with their third album Chinese Fountain, an ambitious record that expanded their laid-back "beach goth" sound with polished arrangements and crisp production. While the album marked a mature new direction for the band, their outrageous live shows remained as satisfyingly madcap as ever, treating ticket buyers to colorful wigs, outré makeup, cross-dressing, and assorted props and antics. Whether the band is conjuring up the retro haze of "One Million Lovers" or basking in the disco strut of "Chinese Fountain" , they always deliver an unforgettable concert experience that combines eccentric theatricality with first-rate musicianship.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Growlers formed in Southern California in 2006 and quickly made a name for themselves with their trippy, reverb-soaked take on '60s pop. After several early lineup changes the band settled on their core roster of Brookes Nielson (vocals), Matt Taylor (lead guitar), Anthony Braun Perry (bass), Kyle Straka (keyboards, guitar), and Scott Montoya (drums) and released their 2009 debut album Are You In or Are You Out? They followed up in 2010 with the Hot Tropics EP, a critically acclaimed collection chock-full of compact psych-rock jams like "Sea Lion Goth Blues" and "Graveyard's Full". In 2012 the band hosted the first annual Beach Goth Party, a showcase of modern surf rock and neo-psych bands that featured performances by local favorites including Dante Vs Zombies, Tijuana Panthers, and Summer Twins.  They kept the vibes flowing in early 2013 with the release of their sophomore record Hung at Heart, a critically acclaimed collection that Filter magazine described as having a “little something for everybody”. In 2014 The Growlers released their third album Chinese Fountain, a polished release that they backed up with a series of rollicking, psychedelic performances on tour.

    Absolutely amazing

by kody on 11/5/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Just so fun overall. The area was so great and there was just enough security to make you feel safe. The staff working food and drinks was extremely courteous too. I also have to mention just how AMAZING the growlers were. They are so amazing live. I had such a good time and I’m so glad I went!

    Amazing Night at Hollywood Palladium

by Jon on 11/5/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Parking was convenient since it was adjacent to the event. Security/entrance was professional, not a hassle, and easy to find. Lines were smooth in my experience. Staff were helpful and in style for Halloween; seemed like they were also having fun. The Palladium was bigger than what I expected; beautiful scene to spend the night. Thank you for an awesome night!

    well...

    by m8 on 11/4/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

I absolutely love the growlers and will continue to pay to see them. However, I must say that my first Beach Goth was kinda disappointing. We drove from San Diego and when we got there we saw Black Lips which we love but the other openers were beyond disappointing for the three days. The Growlers didnt play on the first day until past 11. That being said they played all our favorites. I really hope this is seen as constructive criticism and not hate i love you Growlers <333

    Strange Event

by MusicMan on 11/4/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Disappointing that the headliner made its fans stand for so long. The venue has no seating and doors opened at 6:30. The Growlers came on about 10 after hours of garage bands and drag queen skits. What a waste of time. The Growlers then played mostly deep tracks and few to none of their more popular songs. Wasn’t impressed with the sound. And was fairly fatigued by the time they came on. Wished it was better.

    Meh

by Me on 11/3/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Apparently they do something ever Halloween which is cool they have their tradition but for those people who didn’t know about it, it was kinda a let down. I’m just saying put up a line up instead of having bands preform randomly. The venue was very nice. I like the opener band they were cool.

    What an amazing show!

by Jackie on 10/4/19Ace of Spades - Sacramento

I have no regrets of this night other than having gotten there sooner, but even then I should not be complaining because we were still so close to the stage.🥰

    Great music, horrible location

by J. B. on 8/3/19The Stone Pony - Asbury Park

For a concert that was mean to be outside, I do not think it is okay to shove that amount of people into a smaller venue. There was WAY too many people, and the weather was fine to have it outdoors. In addition, people were kicked out for juuls, however in the middle of the venue BLUNTS were LIT WITH LIGHTERS. An event like this, one that was planned to be outside, should remain outside. It was hot and gross inside. The music was good however.

Amazing performance by the Growlers. The venue (Stone Pony) was oversold and too crowded.

    Los Growlers Live

by V. R. on 12/22/18House of Blues Anaheim presented by Cricket Wireless - Anaheim

Well from the lines to actually getting inside was a very chill not hectic experience. Now I know you can’t control the audience. And well the actions of others the mosh pit got intense especially for a person who doesn’t mosh. Being squished against people made it hard to enjoy the show I nearly panicked and made my way to the back. Which isn’t right when I stood in line to get a spot in the front to see my favorite band. I wish there was a section for the mosh pit because some of us just wanna enjoy the show without being shoved and squished stepped on and kicked. Other than that I tried to enjoy the show The Growlers rocked the house
