Don't miss this dazzling new production of The Gershwins' PORGY AND BESS starring four-time Tony Award® winner, Audra McDonald, Norm Lewis and Tony® nominee David Alan Grier. It's a bold adaptation of Broadway's seminal masterpiece, brilliantly reinvented by Tony-nominated® director Diane Paulus, Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks and two-time Obie winner Diedre Murray.
The entire cast gave a remarkable performance. The music was amazing and this talented cast brought the sad story to life.
With three exceptional performance by the lead characters and three wonderful songs, this show was dull and boring. Whatever made the critics cheer is a mystery to me. I see at least 15-20 Broadway shows a year, but this was not a favorite.
a go to...... even if you have seen before as we have.
not to be missed by anyone interested in American musical theater. And one of the best casts we've experienced in over 50 years of attending Broadway shows.
The production was wonderful and the reivisions in the role of Porgy (no cart) and Bess (effects of drug abuse) played well. The actor who played Crown was both great in the role and disliked as the character he played. Perhaps the biggest surprise was David Alan Grier as Sportin' Life. Having only seen him previously in comedic roles, his singing, dancing and acting were enjoyable and seemingly effortless.
With no previous knowledge of this musical, aside from some familiarity with a couple of the songs, I didn't know what to expect. What I saw was thought provoking, beautifully performed, and altogether wonderful. This is a great show and makes an impact on the audience long after its over.
Stellar performances. Awesome show, would see it again, and again.
I love big Broadway shows- Hair, West Side Story, Rent, South Pacific, Wicked. I love mainstream opera, too: Carmen, Madame Butterfly, the Barber of Seville. Broadway aficionados should run to see Porgy and Bess. The songs are gorgeous and the performers are world-class. This is a special production that melds Broadway with opera without compromising either the original score or the Broadway experience. Don't miss it.
This classic Gershwin play was brilliantly brought to the stage by a terrific cast. I see many Tony's in their future! Bravo!
LOVED IT! Beautiful sung and acted! SEE THIS SHOW!
Audra McDonald was electrifying! In fact, the entire cast was superb!
great show!!!!!!!professional!!!!! Even the ushers performed.
Great show! Great cast! Great staff at the RichardnRodgers Theatre
Everyone was wonderful especially the understudy for Crown. Audra McDonald 's emotion was so believable. Sporting Life was great.
Gershwin would be proud of this production, just right for the 21st. Century. Talent, expressions, the feeling of the play reaches out to the audience. One can never forget the performance of Audra McDonald, Norm Lewis and the stand-in Gavin Gregory as Crown will remain with me forever. The hold cast was outstanding. I felt so proud of the actos, their craft was on point. Tony Awards are inthe future for this production and the actors. Can say enough, and telling everyone that they should see this production.
