    Wonderful

by xomtt on 1/24/10Lexington Opera House - Lexington

The Drowsy Chaperone was wonderful. It was clever, funny, whimsical, imaginative, and the actors were delightful. They made us laugh and should be proud of themselves that they brought such good feelings to Kentucky on a Saturday afternoon. What a way to make a living. I say Bravo and Thanks for such a wonderful presentation. I would have sat through it again (after a short bathroom break :))

    One of the best!

by DeztaB on 1/24/10Lexington Opera House - Lexington

It was one of the best plays/musicals I have seen n a long time. I saws little of the original Broadway production and I think this one stood up to that.

Didn't have much background on the performance, but had an idea of the plot. Did not expect the great costuming and sets.

The Drowsey Chaperone is light-hearted fun. I really enjoyed this production and could not stop humming the songs long after I left the theater. A must see!

    Enjoyed very much

    by nw12 on 1/24/10Stranahan Theater - Toledo

Although I wouldn't call it 'amazing' I didn't want to give it 4 stars for a recommend rating. The play was very good. I would describe it as being clever and funny. Would highly recommend.

    Funny, fluffy and completely satisfying

by Dragonsus on 1/24/10Lexington Opera House - Lexington

This show is like the theatrical version of chocolate mousse cake - there is probably nothing in it that's good for you but it hits a sweet place that's hard to find with more serious fare. The show bills itself as a "Musical within a Comedy" and this pretty accurately describes the show, which switchs between a dingy New York Apartment in the present day (with the "Man in the Chair") and the crazy glamourous cast of a 1920s musical called, "The Drowsy Chaperone." High-jinks ensue as the ridiculous plot gets commentary from "Man in the Chair" and the problems of records as recording devices are explored. The touring Cast is strong and in it for all the campy glory, but if you want to see Janet VandeGraff's "I don't wanna show off" (one of the big production numbers) done right, look for Sutton Foster on YouTube. Otherwise, everything else was more than up to par! All in all, a fun fluffy and sweetly satisfying evening at the theatre

    Drowsy Chaperone

by MissGiGi on 1/23/10Lexington Opera House - Lexington

Delightful evening, the productiion was even better than expected, clever dialogue, great energy, unpredictable scenes, humorous no, hysterical lines/lyics. I would love to see it a second time. It's not often that I can persuade my husband to come to the theatre so it was it was a relief to see him enjoying the performance! Now, he'll be more enthusiastic when I approach him about going to see another production at the Opera House! Thanks! ***The title was misleading!

I did not know what to expect with The Drowsy Chaperone from what I had read about the play online but it was so GREAT, so FUNNY, and just a wonderful play. I would recommend this be a play you put on your list to go see.

    Drowsy Chaperone - Poor performance

    by Rupert2 on 1/19/10Adler Theatre - Davenport

The actors speaker system was not loud enough. I only heard 20% of the lines. Music & singing were acceptable, but could not understand the lyrics. Everyone around us complained of the same thing.

The show is fantastic. The venue was nice also but seemed to have sound system problems. It was hard to catch some lyrics, even though I've listened to the soundtrack several times..

    The Drowsy Chaperone

by Musicalenthusiast on 1/18/10Stranahan Theater - Toledo

I direct high school theatre, and learned that this was just released for amateur productions, so I went with two purposes: to see the show, and to evaluate if I could do it with high school students. The show is corny, but endearing, and VERY dependent upon a great lead for Man in Chair (he was!). The play would lend itself to high school production if you had small casts - not good for my very large cast requirements.

The Drowsy Chaperone was a riot!

by jenibgood on 1/18/10Stranahan Theater - Toledo

I didn't know much about this show other thatn the premise sounded fun. A crazy understatement. The show was hilarious, touching, bawdy, wistful, sad, and uplifiting. I enjoyed every minute of it.

    Very disappointed!

    by Bopper1053 on 1/17/10Stranahan Theater - Toledo

Very sophomoric effort; could have been a good story line, but just didn't come through. No exceptional performances; looked as if the show was just thrown together on a whim with no thought of giving the audience any semblance of a show-stopping performance.

    Charming and fun

by RonAnnArbor on 1/17/10Stranahan Theater - Toledo

To be sure, this is a small musical -- in fact, it's billed as a "musical inside a comedy"...but it is very large on entertainment and charm. The cast is top notch, the tour uses the original Broadway sets and costumes, and the entire thing is a fun, intermissionless hour and 45 minutes of theatre. Later in the Broadway run, they started advertising this as "That musical your neighbor likes"...Consider me that neighbor, and go see it!

    An Awakeing Production

by Kuykendall on 1/17/10Stranahan Theater - Toledo

From the colorful costumes, the ever-changing setting, and the animated character portrayal, The Drowsy Chaperone was a fantastic performance experience. The only problem were that mics were not on sometimes when actors returned to the scene on stage and that at the beginning the musicians in the pit were overpowering the sung lines coming from the stage. If and when I would go back to the Stranahan Theater, I would know what seats to buy - even closer to the stage!
