About

From Tony®, Grammy®, and Academy Award® winner Elton John, Tony-winning director Anna D. Shapiro (August: Osage County, Steppenwolf Theatre), and Tony-winning producer Kevin McCollum (In the Heights, Avenue Q, Rent, and this season's hit musical SIX) comes The Devil Wears Prada, The Musical.

Runway magazine. The supreme authority of the high-fashion world, and the new home of assistant Andy Sachs. It's a position a million people would kill for, but under the sharp stilettos of Runway's legendary editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly, the job is no dream. Up against Miranda's blistering leadership and stratospheric expectations, Andy is pushed to the edge, forced to choose between her career and her own happiness.

Based on the hit film and featuring an all-star creative team led by Elton John and Anna D. Shapiro, with lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub (Suffs at The Public), a book by Kate Wetherhead (Submissions Only), choreography by James Alsop (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), and music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo (Waitress), The Devil Wears Prada, The Musical is a glamorous and hilarious story about finding your place and discovering what matters most.

    Disappointing

by PD on 9/3/22James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Singers were all great; songs, not so much. Couldn’t remember one tune after show was over, frankly after the song themselves were sung. This was a story set in the world of high fashion, yet costuming was terribly lacking. Great pains were taken to depict male dancers as diverse and forward. With the exception of a design wall and the character Jacqueline’s first dress, the clothing for the female characters was straight out of JCPenny’s. Andy wore an unremarkable yellow prom dress to the Met Ball. At one point Miranda was inexplicably dressed in a chalk-stripe pantsuit straight out of the ‘70s. Scenery ranged from okay to exceptional. The roommate characters shouldn’t have been necessary to explain what was going on had the playwright shown us rather than rely on them to tell us. Writing 101. Character of Nate was a throwaway. Had I not read book &/or seen movie, I can’t say I’d actually be able to follow story. Needs a lot of work. It was, by far, one of my biggest disappointments.

    Delightful Devil

by JMac on 8/31/22James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

We really enjoyed the musical. Performers were outstanding. Music was great. The musical likely conveys the message better than the movie. We expect this musical will have a long run.

    Devil Wears Prada

    by J-Man on 8/25/22James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

As the play unfolded, unbeknownst to me, there was a persistent "woke" tone that was palpable throughout the performance. I don't care if a play sways left or right occasionally but please end up in the middle so that there is a sense of balance for the audience, especially in this divided world. It was an unnecessary emphasis which is why I give it only three stars.

    I actually loved it

by ShawnTheatreFan on 8/24/22James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Had attended both the official opening night and closing. I do not understand the disgusting reviews. This was a fun so… Although not perfect and I’m sure will be tweaked before Broadway… The set is great, the characters are fun… The audience was really into it.

    Meh

by Jmmags on 8/24/22James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

The acting and singing was great, but the dialogue had some lulls. The second act is better than the first. Unfortunately the bad review in the NY Post had me going in with low expectations. It would have been fun to play a twist on the movie instead of following it so absolutely.

by Emily on 8/24/22James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

Beautiful adaptation of the movie and great music. It was same storyline but had some fun nuances that we liked. Cast was incredible, especially Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel characters. Would love to see it again!

by Trixie on 8/23/22James M. Nederlander Theatre - Chicago

It is a straightforward musical. Fun, sweet, and entertaining. There is no deep meaning or message so just sit back and be entertained. P.S. Nigel is a blast!
