THE DAN BAND IN CONCERT:

The Dan Band has carved a unique niche for itself at the intersection of music and comedy, combining equal parts humor and chops to achieve their pitch-perfect pop culture send-ups. Known for their histrionic, tongue-in-cheek covers of traditionally female-fronted power anthems, comedian Dan Finnerty and his hilarious backup duo have become a comedy circuit favorite and late-night talk show staple. The Dan Band is a live act first and foremost — their 2005 debut album was a live album — and there's no better way to experience them than on their 2014 tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The brainchild of actor and comedian Dan Finnerty, the Dan Band got their start in LA's comedy club scene, where they were hailed as the "hottest ticket in town" by Entertainment Weekly. After making several high-profile cameos in comedy blockbusters like The Wedding Planner (2001) and Old School (2003), the band released their 2005 debut album The Dan Band Live. The album was a hit, featuring parodies of pop culture subjects including Shakira ("Whenever Wherever/Hips Don't Lie") and bubblegum pop ("Genie In a Bottle/No Scrubs/Slave 4 U") and setting the tone for their future live shows. As the band hits the road for another gut-busting tour in 2014, no topic is off-limits, and fans wouldn't have it any other way.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The Dan Band was one of the most entertaining and hilariously funny shows I've ever been to. What a blast! The best in comical acts!!!"

"The Dan Band exceeded expectations. The song performances and song selections were perfect. The group truly seemed to enjoy performing for us! I especially enjoyed when Dan interacted with the crowd, he was funny without being an a**hole."

"That was some funny stuff. The Dan Band was so funny and he can really sing. The performance was outstanding."

  • Not up to expectations

by GregBoston on 11/7/10Wilbur Theatre - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The show was basically a half-hearted reply of their Bravo special with a few newer songs mixed in. The Wilbur's sound system was not up to the task and the crowd never got into the show as a result.

  • Frat party without the keg stands

by Missinformation on 11/7/10Wilbur Theatre - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Bottom line, this was a fun show. It is definitely junior high-level humor, but done to perfection. Dan has a great voice and played the crowd well, but without the backup singers/dancers it would be just another karaoke act. We were very disappointed that there was no BAND--the music flowed very well, but from a laptop. It would have made for a better experience if Dan brought the Band part of the Dan Band.

  • Locked out of House

by MsBe on 9/20/10House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

Once it got started it was great...the tickets said 8:00 PM - doors did not open until 8:30PM and show didn't start until 9:30PM - other than that great!!

  • The Dan Band put on a great show!

by SuggarDaddy on 9/20/10House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 4 out of 5

The Dan Band put on a great and entertaining show! Interacted nicely with the crowd. Played all their entire set. On the negative side, it took too long for them to come on stage - well past 10:15pm. Extremely annoying specially when the tickets say show starts at 9:00pm.

  • Awesome!!

by SparkyG on 9/20/10House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

We went with a group of 16 people and really enjoyed the show! I knew the songs would be cool but didn't realize how funny the skits and dancing are too. House of Blues was a great venue too...nice and cozy but not too crowded. Highly recommend the show!

  • Threatening to get stale...

by oldmanandcow on 9/19/10House of Blues Houston - HoustonRating: 3 out of 5

While this was our third time to enjoy a show by The Dan Band, I must say hay it will get old really quick unless they add a bit more diversity to their performance. It even comes across in the body language of the show -- as if it's some sort of in-joke with the crowd as to how ridiculous the whole concept can be. That said, the drinks were flowing, so the crowd enjoyed, although it was a little more quiet than I expected.

  • As always, an awesome time

2nd time we've seen them and had even more fun this time! Would go again and again, only wish they played Chicago more often!

  • The Dan Karaoke Experience

by BoilerBent on 7/31/10House of Blues Chicago - ChicagoRating: 2 out of 5

Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Dan Finnerty and The Dan Band. But this really should not have been called The Dan Band, they should have gone with something like The Dan Karaoke Experience. For some reason, seeing three guys sing to a pre-recorded set list does not do it for me, and maybe that explains why I don't go to a lot of hip-hop shows. For me, an integral part of the concert experience is, hello, LIVE MUSIC. I was expecting to see something similar to The Dan Band's special that aired on Bravo a few years back. Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed. Even if a band has a set-in-stone setlist, when they are playing live there is always a chance for something spontaneous. That simply did not exist at this show. It was, plain and simple, something I could have seen at any lousy bar on Karaoke night. meh. Coupled with that were a frightening number of annoying patrons, who were apparently only there to hear Dan's cover of 'Total Eclipse of the Heart', which was the highlight of the show. Otherwise these patrons could be overheard EVERYWHERE having conversations and generally interfering with the enjoyment of those of us who were there to actually see the performance. Also, the sound was terrible. It was not loud enough and was very muddled. Overall, thumbs down. Save your money.

  • Dan Rocks the House

by JudgeJ on 7/25/10Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Loved every moment of The Dan Band. The only drawback would be that the sound was a little distorted - hard to discern the lyrics at times.

  • a good time

by bullbig on 7/25/10Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

I had a great time at this show. Good music and very entertaining. The show makes you laugh and want to sing along. I would go and see this show again. The only reason I didnt give this 5 stars was they started late. There was no opening act, so it was a little confusing as to what was going on

  • Legendary

    by Agent01 on 7/25/10Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

I went into this thinking that I would have a good time but, in the end, it would probably just be a few laughs. What I got was actually an extremely talented band of entertainers putting on an amazing 90 minute show. They had hilarious choreography, the banter to the crowd made me laugh every time, and aside from one single song, the entire setlist was outstanding. Was it the best concert I've been to? Not really. Was it the most entertaining? Absolutely.

  • Love love love The Dan Band

by lushlie on 7/25/10Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 5th time seeing The Dan Band. I've been going to his shows since 2004. I love them! Always a great time. Dan is hilarious. Not just their performance, but his interaction with the crowd is sure to keep you laughing!

  • Great Even Tho Late

by millissalissa on 7/14/10CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

They were and hour and a half late but the show was amazing! I hate the venue.

  • For adolescent males only!!

by OverFortie on 7/12/10CLUB NOKIA - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

If you are over forty years old and have a college education or more, do not even think about seeing this show! My husband and I left after the first twenty minutes because we found it so offensive. The theme of the evening was using the "f" word while insulting the audience members sitting in the front row, especially the women. It was chauvinistic and about as low-brow as you can get. The jokes centered on the male singer's sex organs. (At one point he unzipped his pants and put a small stuffed animal inside. Are you kidding me?) If you enjoy this kind of adolescent humor, then you will love this show. If you'd like something that makes you think and won't offend your date, stay away! Whatever musical value this show has is far outweighed by its crudeness.
