THE DAN BAND IN CONCERT:
The Dan Band has carved a unique niche for itself at the intersection of music and comedy, combining equal parts humor and chops to achieve their pitch-perfect pop culture send-ups. Known for their histrionic, tongue-in-cheek covers of traditionally female-fronted power anthems, comedian Dan Finnerty and his hilarious backup duo have become a comedy circuit favorite and late-night talk show staple. The Dan Band is a live act first and foremost — their 2005 debut album was a live album — and there's no better way to experience them than on their 2014 tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The brainchild of actor and comedian Dan Finnerty, the Dan Band got their start in LA's comedy club scene, where they were hailed as the "hottest ticket in town" by Entertainment Weekly. After making several high-profile cameos in comedy blockbusters like The Wedding Planner (2001) and Old School (2003), the band released their 2005 debut album The Dan Band Live. The album was a hit, featuring parodies of pop culture subjects including Shakira ("Whenever Wherever/Hips Don't Lie") and bubblegum pop ("Genie In a Bottle/No Scrubs/Slave 4 U") and setting the tone for their future live shows. As the band hits the road for another gut-busting tour in 2014, no topic is off-limits, and fans wouldn't have it any other way.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

The show was AWESOME. I haven't laughed so hard in ages. Had a great time.
The Dan Band brings a solid sense of humor and wit to the lounge lizard musical treatment. Their musicianship is polished enough to take pop hits that have tough vocal arrangements and make them their own - but maintain enough familiarity to the originals, that you recognize them immediately. Dan's interaction and ability to riff and spar with the audience is as good as any seasoned comedian - he insults and compliments within the same improvised joke. They could be easy to dismiss as a niche band, but the depth of their talent should keep them around for a lengthy time...
We had a fairly large group of people front and center in standing room only and had a great time. Would definitely go see them again. It was hilarious!
I had the best time ever!!! They really know how to Keep everyone entertained!!
The show was great!. We did not stop laughing from time they started until the time they finished. We can't wait to see them again.
Club Nokia is small, but fun. Dan Band was super funny, this is my new holiday tradition.
Very Funny - entertaining. Smiled the whole night.
Great show, one of my favorite concerts I've seen.
Great show at Club Nokia - The Dan Band were great - very entertaining!
This was the 3rd time that I have seen the Dan Band in Boston and my least favorite. Without the band behind Dan, the sound quality was really poor. Seemed like they were just going through the motions for the most part. He sang a few new songs, Candyshop, Single Ladies, My Humps, but most of the songs were from his CD which has been out for many years now. Would like to see more newer songs added to their routine. Called the Wilbur several times in the days leading up to the show and they could not confirm whether or not there was an opening act. Even calling late afternoon the day of the show, was still told they didn't know if there was an opening act. Got to the box office at 7:15 and was told that Dan Band would go on promptly at 7:30. That wasn't the case, it was more like 8:15. I think they lie to get you in there earlier so you buy more liquor. Would have been nice to be able to confirm in advance whether there was an opening act so you could have dinner plans that aren't rushed.
If you've never seen the Dan Band, you owe yourself the indulgence of a couple of hours of just plain fun. Dan is a riot, and the backup guys just can't be stopped. In order to pull something like this off, you'd expect that the folks involved have to be great singers, and that comes out all over the place. I've already bought tickets for the return engagement in April.
Any description of this show would not come close to doing it justice. Absolutely the funniest most creative concert I've ever seen.
This was great. I love him in the movies (Hangover, Starsky & Hutch & etc) but wasn't sure by the you tube clips how funny it would be. It was hilarious and just a great night. Could of been a hair longer, but for $25 it was worth every penny. To be honest, I think it stills needs to be polished up a bit but that's also what made it so funny. Assuming every tour they change out the set and some of the songs, I would see them every year!
Had a blast! Great venue, we had general admission, and stood about 10 feet from the stage. Nonstop laughing. I think Dan is halarious and the backup singers were just as good. Start to fininsh is was a blast, I'd go once a month if he was in town.
For $25 (reserved seating) the show was great. I wish that it had been longer than an hour or so, but, I still think it's worth it. I will probably go back in April when they are back in Boston.
show was awesome he played all the things you wanted him to.
I have been a long time fan of The Dan Band and I was looking forward to seeing him perform live. When we got there we found out that there was no band there that evening since they missed their flight. It was just Dan and his backup dancers. With out the band there it lost the live performance appeal and just seemed like he was up there singing karaoke. He was performing to prerecorded tracks an they were being played in the same order as they are on the cd. If I wanted that I would have just stayed home and listened to it. Also the price of the tickets now seem a bit high because of no band and it was just Dan with no opening act. It just didn't live up to anything I expected.
Have wanted to see these guys for awhile. Planned on being in Boston and found out they were going to be in town! Read prior reviews and noticed they habitually start late. What are you going to do though, there is the chance they may be on time so we were there at 7:15, the band was to come on at 7:30. They finally hit the stage at 8:20 and were great! Dan has lots of energy, and while the 2 other guys are dressed in their matching nerdy suits, they actually added to the whole show, especially the song & dances they did together, ie Single Ladies. They managed to perform several songs (adding a few f bombs and sexual dance moves make it all the more humorous) although they played for only one hour. REALLY? Did you have someplace to be?! Tickets were only $25 but I would expect a bit longer of a show. I would still give it a thumbs up, the energy was great, Dan really interacted with the crowd and I really laughed a lot!
The Dan band would have been good if: 1. You could hear anything that was sung. The humor is in the lyrics and it was unintelligible. 2. The sound was very poor, and too loud.
A smart, stupid fun time. Tremendous. "All the Single Ladies" was absolutely inspired.
