About

The Cult on Tour

The Cult, a shape-shifting rock band, has hardly sat still since their mid-'80s conception. They were born out of England's post-punk scene, first emerging as a heavy metal revivalist band with their debut album Dreamtime in 1984. The collection of shimmering guitars, howling vocals, and neo-psychedelic sounds introduced the dawn of a new musical era as the band transitioned away from the gothic rock genre leaning in the direction of a hard rock act. Dreamtime reached the top of the charts in the UK and served as a prologue for the trilogy The Cult would produce as the '80s went on. By the time Love dropped in the summer of 1985, the fresh ensemble had built a dedicated native following through the release of the teaser single "She Sells Sanctuary." Love became the No. 4 album in the UK, but The Cult achieved international, mainstream success after recording Electric in New York in 1987. Resonant of strident U.S. arena rock, the album picked up on the popular three-chord crunch, hard-hitting kick drum, heroic guitar solos with endless rifts, and passionate vocals backed by sing-along choruses. It was a huge success and sold over one million copies worldwide -- only to be topped by their 1988 magnum opus, Sonic Temple, which featured their top-charting song "Fire Woman." The British band would go on to release two more studio albums by the turn of the century (Ceremony, 1991; The Cult, 1994) and another four over the next two decades (Beyond Good and Evil, 2001; Born into This, 2007; Choice of Weapon, 2012; Hidden City, 2016), plus a total of 41 singles throughout their career. In 2022, fans have the chance to see The Cult on tour across three different countries as they perform the great alt-rock ballads that turned them into an iconic household name.

The Cult in Concert

An ever-evolving ensemble, The Cult has witnessed several changes to its name, lineup, and musical direction since forming in the 1980s -- but two of the band's founding members, singer/songwriter Ian Astbury and lead guitarist Brian Duffy, have remained throughout it all. The current drummer, John Tempesta, joined in 2006, playing with The Cult on tour and in concert ever since. In 2015, Grant Fitzpatrick (bass) and Damon Fox (keyboards/rhythm guitar) joined to help the band record their 10th album, permanently staying on after that. Although Astbury's heavenly vocals and Duffy's thrilling guitar may remain the lifeblood of The Cult on tour in 2022, the entire outfit fulfills the band's original promise and feels like they've stepped straight out of the '90s.

    Finally and Finally

    by BG on 7/16/23

As one of my college favorite bands I finally got to see them. We were front row and center stage. After one song Ian invited everyone to rush the stage. I like it, but makes it hard to get back to your place if you have to leave. Anyway, Billy rocks, awesome guitars ! Ian appeared intoxicated and skipped through each song either muttering or just forgetting the words. Music was GREAT, performance was far below par. I did finally get to see my band! Love you guys

    Cult Review

    by Johnny M on 7/16/23

Show was excellent as far as the band goes. However, I spent the extra money and bought front row seats that ended up not being front row at all. There was a PIT in front of us. Then they started giving out wrist bands for FREE to get in the PIT. I am wanting my money back. My FRONT ROW SEATS weren’t that at all. False advertising and I got ripped off

    Blue balls

    by Haasedeux on 7/15/23

Show was less than two hours, didn’t play Fire Woman. Feeling slighted - knowing this was the first stop of their state side tour. Sounded phenomenal, but did not play the one song that gets the most air time on radio. I know I’m not the only one that feels this way.

    Shortest show

    by Rain on 7/15/23

The opening act didn’t show (I asked security after the show), so the Cult not only started at the time the opener should have (8p) but even earlier at 7:45p. I arrived around 8:40p thinking I’d be right on time to experience the Cult- saw 3 songs from a short set list, and 2 encore. It was over by 9p. I’ve never experienced this ever over hundreds of rock shows. Totally disappointed.

    Good show, but too short!

    by RockinIt on 7/15/23

The Cult did not disappoint with 8 great songs but only played for barely an hour. I felt sorry for the people who went to get another beer and came back to the band saying "Good Night!"

    Waste of money

    by Disappointed on 7/15/23

The band was ok. The venue, Centerstage, at MGM Northfield Ohio was the WORST. Security had no control over the crowd and made no attempts to do so. People stood the entire time making it impossible to see. They were moving up from the back and crowded the aisle up front. I paid top dollar for my ticket close to the stage so I could be comfortably sitting and watch the show. I was so pissed off having to stare at someone's backside I left in the middle of the show. Another thing I noticed is that people in wheelchairs are forced to sit in the aisles to the farthest point left and right of the stage. It is a bold statement implying that these people are considered "second class"giving them a very limited view of the stage. I find that hugely discriminatory. There's should be space designated to accommodate wheelchairs at the front in at least one of the three sections on the floor. However those in charge that worship the almighty dollar simply don't care as long as they are lining there own pockets. If you are planning to attend a show there don't waste your time and money.

    The Cult@ MGM Center Stage

    by Scott on 7/15/23

I've been a fan of this band since 1984 and for whatever reason it never worked out to see them live. I'm so glad it did this time around. They were high energy from the start and sounded incredible. Ian's voice sounds amazing after all this time and Billy is well, Billy. This show covered all the big songs everyone knows and mixed in some songs from the new album. I'll absolutely see them again when they come back to Cleveland.

    Could have been better

    by TC on 7/15/23

Band was great. Ian seemed to not remember lyrics and they didn’t play arguably their most popular song

    Just OK

    by Les on 7/15/23

Seemed like they played the extended instrumental version of every song so as not to have to play too many. Don’t waste your money.

Great show, great crowd, great venue.

    by rjlash39 on 7/15/23

The Cult was in great form. They burned through their set and played what the crowd came to see. They also played a couple of songs from their new album including Mirror which was great live. The lighting added to the performance. Ian Astbury, Billy Duffy and John Tempesta were on fire.

    Wow!

    by Jewelz on 7/15/23

This show was unbelievable. I’ve never been lucky enough to see them live before, and they were absolutely amazing! I go to a lot of shows. This was one of the best. I was sad when it ended. I hope they play near me again. This is a band I’d see every time I got a chance🤘

    Great but too short

    by Disappointed driver on 7/15/23

The Cult sounded and looked great but only played for a little over an hour. I drove 2 hours to see them! So 4 hours drive time and a $95 ticket to get in is not worth it for just an hour of music no matter how good it was!

    The Cult Kicked A$$.

by TSR422 on 5/31/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

The Parker is amazing to see a concert at. I hadn't been inside this building in 50 years. Incredible sound and the Cult kicked ass. The place is just the right size for a great show. I will be back for more shows here for sure!

    Great Show

by O. D. on 5/20/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

The Cult sounded fantastic! Ian and Billy still have onstage chemistry. John Tempesta is a great drummer and got it done as Sorum did before. Charlie Jones and Mike Mangan are notable as well.

    The Cult Now and Then

by Wacky on 5/20/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

We saw the Cult in 2017 in New Hampshire. They performed a Great show, we met Grant Fitzpatrick their bassist at the time . This show here in Florida was awful. The bass was to high and Ian did not hold any time on the songs. Billy did his job. They did not seem to want to be there. We left early. Very sad night. Ian still has a great voice, he just didn't care the other night.
