About

The Cult on Tour

The Cult, a shape-shifting rock band, has hardly sat still since their mid-'80s conception. They were born out of England's post-punk scene, first emerging as a heavy metal revivalist band with their debut album Dreamtime in 1984. The collection of shimmering guitars, howling vocals, and neo-psychedelic sounds introduced the dawn of a new musical era as the band transitioned away from the gothic rock genre leaning in the direction of a hard rock act. Dreamtime reached the top of the charts in the UK and served as a prologue for the trilogy The Cult would produce as the '80s went on. By the time Love dropped in the summer of 1985, the fresh ensemble had built a dedicated native following through the release of the teaser single "She Sells Sanctuary." Love became the No. 4 album in the UK, but The Cult achieved international, mainstream success after recording Electric in New York in 1987. Resonant of strident U.S. arena rock, the album picked up on the popular three-chord crunch, hard-hitting kick drum, heroic guitar solos with endless rifts, and passionate vocals backed by sing-along choruses. It was a huge success and sold over one million copies worldwide -- only to be topped by their 1988 magnum opus, Sonic Temple, which featured their top-charting song "Fire Woman." The British band would go on to release two more studio albums by the turn of the century (Ceremony, 1991; The Cult, 1994) and another four over the next two decades (Beyond Good and Evil, 2001; Born into This, 2007; Choice of Weapon, 2012; Hidden City, 2016), plus a total of 41 singles throughout their career. In 2022, fans have the chance to see The Cult on tour across three different countries as they perform the great alt-rock ballads that turned them into an iconic household name.

The Cult in Concert

An ever-evolving ensemble, The Cult has witnessed several changes to its name, lineup, and musical direction since forming in the 1980s -- but two of the band's founding members, singer/songwriter Ian Astbury and lead guitarist Brian Duffy, have remained throughout it all. The current drummer, John Tempesta, joined in 2006, playing with The Cult on tour and in concert ever since. In 2015, Grant Fitzpatrick (bass) and Damon Fox (keyboards/rhythm guitar) joined to help the band record their 10th album, permanently staying on after that. Although Astbury's heavenly vocals and Duffy's thrilling guitar may remain the lifeblood of The Cult on tour in 2022, the entire outfit fulfills the band's original promise and feels like they've stepped straight out of the '90s.

I'm glad I drove from the Bay Area to Reno to see this act. I saw them last November in San Francisco. Well worth the drive!

    The Cult @ GSR Reno

by Chris on 10/10/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

Ian Astbury & Billy Duffy continue to deliver the goods with their high energy ensemble of no-nonsense rock & roll. A great crowd contributed to the excitement, as many of us diehards sang along with all the classics.

by Dawniv on 10/9/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

I have been a fan of The Cult since the 80s and I see them every time they tour. Great show. The band was tight and Ian's voice was incredible.

    Music/sound great. Lighting bad.

by Mark on 10/9/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

The Cult is one of my favorite bands and they did not disappoint. It’s always about the music so I never care too much about fancy light shows, but they were “back-lit” for most of the show. I had decent seats and had a hard time seeing the band even on the screens. I wanted to see Billy shred. Heard it. Didn’t see it quite so good.

They sounded great but just stood there. It was hard to be engaged.

    No Fire Woman

by Caker on 10/9/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

The Cult put on a fantastic show. Their sound was top notch. The only thing holding me back from giving a 5 star rating is the fact that they didn't play Fire Woman. Very disappointed about that.

    The Cult....short and semi-sweet

    by BA on 7/23/23

Cult comes to town..very happy about that. Show was short ...no Edie and no Fire Woman. I was disappointed in that but I surmise it's hard on Ian's voice... Some Cult is better than no Cult I guess.. band played superb as usual.

No Fire Woman or Edie-Ciao Baby?

    by Big JMan on 7/19/23

How can you not perform your top 2 most successful songs? Very disappointed with The Cult. But, we LOVE The Peoria Civic Center Theater; a great place to see a concert! :)--BigJ and Baby

    Is that all there is...

    by concerts yay on 7/19/23

The band sounded really good. The problem was they played 1 hour 15 minutes. No opening band, no following band, just The Cult. A one hour fifteen minute show. Why? Charge less for tickets if you plan on playing such a short show. Or have an opening band.

    Still sounding great!

    by Art Marker on 7/17/23

Driving 1-1/2 hours to see The Cult was a last-minute decision, but I'm glad I didn't miss it!!! This concert took me back to 1985. Ian Astbury's GREAT voice hasn't changed a bit. Billy Duffy on guitar was still amazing. We stood and danced for the entire concert. It was a great time and having just lived through a tornado and the aftermath -- made me feel so much better. Music heals!

    Too short!!

    by Mike E on 7/17/23

Cult was awesome, as always. But an hour and twenty minutes show?? C’mon! That’s ripping off your fans….not cool. For those tix prices they need to play for at least 2 hours.

    by J Allen on 7/16/23

The Cult put on an incredible show to a packed house. Playing their classic cuts from Love, Electric, Sonic Temple, as well as some great new songs. They were very sharp with excellent sound quality as well as bringing incredible energy and showmanship. The venue did a great job making the experience fun and comfortable.

    Never miss The Cult live

    by Sandy W on 7/16/23

This is one of the best bands to see live in the history of RnR. A very underrated band. Every show is an "experience"not just a concert. Never miss an opportunity to see this band live. Northfield was an mystical journey with an edge you would not believe. Ian and Billy are on top of their game.
