The Cult on Tour

The Cult, a shape-shifting rock band, has hardly sat still since their mid-'80s conception. They were born out of England's post-punk scene, first emerging as a heavy metal revivalist band with their debut album Dreamtime in 1984. The collection of shimmering guitars, howling vocals, and neo-psychedelic sounds introduced the dawn of a new musical era as the band transitioned away from the gothic rock genre leaning in the direction of a hard rock act. Dreamtime reached the top of the charts in the UK and served as a prologue for the trilogy The Cult would produce as the '80s went on. By the time Love dropped in the summer of 1985, the fresh ensemble had built a dedicated native following through the release of the teaser single "She Sells Sanctuary." Love became the No. 4 album in the UK, but The Cult achieved international, mainstream success after recording Electric in New York in 1987. Resonant of strident U.S. arena rock, the album picked up on the popular three-chord crunch, hard-hitting kick drum, heroic guitar solos with endless rifts, and passionate vocals backed by sing-along choruses. It was a huge success and sold over one million copies worldwide -- only to be topped by their 1988 magnum opus, Sonic Temple, which featured their top-charting song "Fire Woman." The British band would go on to release two more studio albums by the turn of the century (Ceremony, 1991; The Cult, 1994) and another four over the next two decades (Beyond Good and Evil, 2001; Born into This, 2007; Choice of Weapon, 2012; Hidden City, 2016), plus a total of 41 singles throughout their career. In 2022, fans have the chance to see The Cult on tour across three different countries as they perform the great alt-rock ballads that turned them into an iconic household name.

The Cult in Concert

An ever-evolving ensemble, The Cult has witnessed several changes to its name, lineup, and musical direction since forming in the 1980s -- but two of the band's founding members, singer/songwriter Ian Astbury and lead guitarist Brian Duffy, have remained throughout it all. The current drummer, John Tempesta, joined in 2006, playing with The Cult on tour and in concert ever since. In 2015, Grant Fitzpatrick (bass) and Damon Fox (keyboards/rhythm guitar) joined to help the band record their 10th album, permanently staying on after that. Although Astbury's heavenly vocals and Duffy's thrilling guitar may remain the lifeblood of The Cult on tour in 2022, the entire outfit fulfills the band's original promise and feels like they've stepped straight out of the '90s.

Could have been great if they played their biggest hit Firewom. How are you The Cult and not play that song live?

Band still looks great and well rehearsed, sound man could have done a little better on the high ends but great lighting. Worth the cost!

40 years of listening to them, seeing them live and enjoying their music will hopefully continue for more years to come. They sounded great, they delivered and most important Played Most of their very best with a few new on a sprinkled in. If you get the chance, make it work!

    Good show

by Rock n Roll Forever on 5/20/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

Liked the Cult since the eighties. Never saw them live until now. Was not disappointed. Ian Astbury’s voice was in good shape. Billy Duffy guitar playing was pretty good. The rest of band played well. Was impressed and would definitely see again. Night Club was a good opener and a good start to an overall pretty damn good show.

    Disappointed

by Rockafella on 5/20/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

We saw the Cult several years ago and they were better than they were in the 90's. Completely on point. We were excited to see them again this week in Ft. Lauderdale at the Parker, a small 1,300 seat venue with excellent seats. The opening act was good, but did not fit the crowd. It was a techno DJ and a single gal singing. They were good, just more fit for Ultra music fest than an opening act for a hard hit you in the face rock-n-roll band. When the Cult came out, Ian was the only member of the original band. The other guys played true to the music. Ian was very thin, forgot the words to the first three songs, dropped his tambourine into the crowd and asked for it back and was simply not present. His voice was still good regarding range and tone, he was just way too high. Only the second time in my life that I have walked out of a show we drove three hours to get to halfway through the fourth song. Hope he gets straight again, would love to see them at prime level soon.

The Cult were amazing at the Parker Playhouse in Ft Lauderdale. Billy's riffs and Ian's vocals were on point. It's great to see them still on stage and tearing it up. Turn It Up...

The Cult has always been one of my favorite bands. The music is so unique, and I’d love Ian’s voice. There is no other voice like his . I would love to see them again and again. I am still on a music hi from the concert the other night.

    Great Show at the Parker

    by c. w. on 5/18/23

I have been a fan of The Cult since the 80s. Saw them in college and I saw them again when they opened for Aerosmith some years back. I think they sounded better last night than I ever remember them before. They were tight, and the sound was loud but crisp. My 16 year old son was impressed- that’s hard to do

Cult put on a great show!

by Brian on 11/23/22Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

This was my first concert at Wild Horse Pass showroom. Great venue, not a bad seat in the house, went with a friend from work we sat in the balcony on the left side. It was great seeing a band I love without sitting through an opening act. The Cult always puts on a good show! Ian was the consummate frontman/singer, he was great with stage banter and didn't let microphone tech issues get to him. Billy's guitar work was amazing as always and the rest of the bad is stellar. They were touring in support of a new album "Under the Midnight Sun" (which is actually really good, take a listen). So they spotlighted a couple of new tunes from that album plus the best songs from their catalog mostly from Love, Electric and Sonic Temple albums. They performed about 90 minutes, wish it could have been longer but this was the last stop on their current tour. All in all one of the best shows I've seen in a while.

    The Cult Wildhorse Casino Showroom

by Rocker on 11/23/22Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

Great Show, the band killed it. The venue is great, good sound easy in an out. Get there early to avoid lines for merch and drinks. They do need to clean the glass railing in th upper section. Sitting in the first row you see the stage through it and it was pretty dirty.

    Wild Horse Pass Blast

by LouderFaster on 11/23/22Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

The Cult are a long-time favorite band that I never got to see, even when I lived in the UK. This was a dream come true for me and they were every bit as good as I'd hoped. Ian Astbury's generosity with tambourines was great to see and made a lot of lucky recipients happy. He's also a fantastic vocalist. Billy Duffy is an amazing guitarist, I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. Gila River Casino at Wild Horse Pass is a venue everyone should experience. The staff are friendly and helpful, the place is as good as any of the hotels in Vegas. This was a top tier experience, all around.
