This musical was simply amazing. The singing was awesome. The storyline was that of the movie. It was great. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
The cast was so in character, i loved it. The singing was the right tones not loud. I loved the stage presentation everything was simple AMAZING. A must see
First time seeing the performance. My 18-year-old son and I were blown away. The creative staging, the vocals, the acting, the visuals, the use of the chairs in such a mesmerizing way, the conveying of the intense subject matter ... all amazing. The opening number came to an end and we looked at each other in the darkened theatre with tears in our eyes from the sheer emotion of the story unfolding and talent up on that stage and behind the scenes. Bravo to The Color Purple touring cast that came to New Orleans. Outstanding performance; you touched us.
The actors were awesome! I would have loved to see more acting and less singing. Although the singing was good, it was difficult to understand the words. Overall, great show!!!
I thought this show was forgettable. Kind of boring. Nothing memorable about the music. I was very disappointed. Save your money. The Paramount theater was an amazing venue.
Amazing show. Actors were brilliant. You won’t need to have read the book or to have seen the movie to really appreciate the play.
One of the best plays. I really enjoyed it from the start all the way to the end.
We sat in the mezzanine, in about the 5th row from the front. I expected to be able to hear quite well in these seats, but I probably didn't catch 50% of the words. Before the show I looked in the program for a synopsis or director's notes, but there were none. Fortunately during intermission I went online and read a synopsis so that I would know what was going on. I caught much more of the 2nd half because of that. So I wish there were a synopsis in the program and that the performers would project better. My hearing isn't perfect, but I am still nowhere near needing hearing aids.
The Color Purple was awesome and very entertaining. “Hell No””! Was my favorite part of the play. This show was totally different from the first time I saw the show in 2000
High energy. Great vocals. Sound system marginal. Shame on the Paramount.
Saw it on Broadway and in Seattle. Seattle performance was even better. Put it on your must see list!
Inspiring, funny, tear jerking, it had it all! The music was bold and the singers incredible.
I thought the replication of the book to stage was good. The music, singing and actors were good. I did, however, have trouble understanding a lot of the words in the show. (It's a good thing I had read the book and seen the movie.) I think part of the problem is that the music over powers the voices. I don't have a hearing problem, but maybe I need to use the theatre hearing devices to solve this. Have other people commented about this? (I experienced this with Les Miz also.)
Great except the sound. Lots of people needed amplified headphones to understand the words.
We had seen the original play years ago and didn't realize this was a condensed low budget version that they turned into just a musical. We liked the original play better. Having read the book and seen the movie numerous times, we knew the story line and what was going on. Several friends that had never read the book or seen the movie got the gist but had a hard time following what was going on. Also, key songs or scenes were left out that really mattered, or maybe we just enjoyed those parts of the original play. I wouldn't spend the money to see this version again and wouldn't have this time had it been made clear that it was not the original play.
This was my second time seeing The Color Purple and I don’t regret going again. The cast was phenomenal and the whole staging seemed new from the first time it was on broadway. I was sad when it was over. All the actors made this a great experience.
Very empowering. Fits well in the year of Me Too movement.
We strained to hear the dialog. The music was a good volume but it was hard to hear the people speaking.
So close to the story line with it's own twist worth seeing
The sound quality was terrible. It was so hard to understand what was being said that we left at intermission. A complete waste of $160.00
