    Awesome Play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by CharlesD on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

When a 15 year old kid sets and watches this play and says "Dad this was great" Then you know you have an awesome play on your hands. I saw the movie and it does not compare to the play, now I have to read the book...............

    The Color Purple was Entertaining

by SummerRain on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I loved The Color Purple! It was very entertaining. I am a big fan of the movie and was excited for the play to come to our area. I felt several emotions while watching the play. I laughed and cried. I learned several things about some of the characters that I didn't know previously. The play is based more on the book than the movie, so I would suggest reading the book before going to see the play.

by Swanette39 on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Loved the whole play, the location and the employees of the DPAC was great. Had a wonderful time--the whole cast of the Color purple showed out (meaning they were outstanding)!! Will return to the Durham area to watch more events at this location.

    Purple is unforgettable!

by vertiblenanny on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Recently my husband (who hates musicals) and I went to see The Color Purple at the DPAC. From the opening curtain to the closing curtain, everything was superior. Even my husband said he would not mind seeing it again. You would have thought it was the first time all the actors had performed. Their enthusiasm and joy was contagious.

    Good Suff

by Geminijan on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

It was hard to think about how they would get the essence of the book and film into a play. However, it was achieved in this play. It was made sure to include the classic lines that we have grown to love ("You told Harpo to beat me"). We got to see the understudy for Celie and she was awesome. Great experience for us, you should experience it too.

by Cristobal on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I saw the movie when if first came out, so I did not remember much of the plot when I went to see the touring show: The Color Purple. It was MUCH better than I anticipated. It was maginificent! The acting and singing and dancing were incredible.

    Color Purple was a disappointment

by cflinty on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I attended The Color Purple in Durham North Carolina at the Durham Performing Arts Center. The venue was exceptional. The seating on the upper level was exceptional. The seats were positioned very well, no one blocked my view. The Play: The actors, with the exception of Sophia were marginal at best. In all my years of attending plays, this performance was most disappointing. The following is why I make this opinion: Over acting in some cases. Some of the actors were not convincing. i.e. Shug Avery, sounded like Mae West (come up and see me some time). Certainly not indicative of the period, race, culture, and class. Thought the actor who played Ceily acted well, but her singing was average. The actor who played Mister seemed too young to play the role. Overall, no one stood out in the singing department. The movie sound track was much better. Sophia was the only actor I would grade an A. Everyone seemed like understudies. They just did not have the total package!!! There are way too many actors out there with the total package to have marginal performances like that one.

    The Color Purple

by RaleighMan on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I was extremely pleased with the performance. The cast was exceptional and the voices were amazing. I've traveled to NY for performances that lacked the quality of this one. It great to see Durham bring shows of this caliber to the area for those of us who love the theatre.

    The Color Purple

by prigler on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The Color Purple was all I had hoped for and more! The play followed the movie so closely and the actors, dancing and songs were excellent! I almost did not go due to the cost, but decided to splurge and take my mother as her Mother's Day present. It was the best gift for both of us!

    Outstanding!!

by Tinderoni on 7/12/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The show was outstanding, even though it may have been the second string!! I'd see it again with the original cast, but I think this was great!!

Mind blowing and moving performance from the whole cast of CP. If it is ever brought back to the DPAC, you can better believe that I'll be there!

by HOT905 on 7/11/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I wish it would have stuck with movie

by NikkiNC on 7/11/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The play had a gay theme and wasnt as good as movie. I would have preferred a better Shug but Sophia & Celie character was awesome! I was also disappointed in the explicit language since kids were in the audience. The play started off really good and then took a turn for worse. My family & I left the play disappointed! Maybe next time I'll attend a broadway play in New York. Thanks

    OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!

by Sunni1 on 7/11/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

This play was WONDERFUL. All the performers did an excellent job. We had an understudy for the part of Celie and I can't imagine anyone doing a better job than she did! The costumes and the scenery transported you to the time; it felt as if you were apart of the story - you wanted to cry for Celie and Sofia, and you were happy with what happened to Mister. When it was all over it felt as if you'd been on an emotional rollercoaster and came out better than you went in. I highly recommend attending!!

Purple has become my new favorite color

by CarolinaGirl on 7/11/09DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The Color Purple production was a smart, rousing, uplifting performance enjoyed by the whole theater on the Saturday we attended. The cast was fabulous and for a moment we felt as if we were at the Broadway production. We laughed, we cried, we were in awe of the sets and the costuming. I highly recommend the production to anyone who can attend. It was worth the wait.
