The Fonics were the best performers. I pay to see them again on the card with other groups. The Chi-Lites could have stayed home. The Dramatics sing to many song that no one paid to hear.

    Dramatics were awful

by Calcazes on 6/27/11Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

Chi-Lites and especially the Fonics were well worth it but the Dramatics as the last act of the evening were a bust! They did not sing songs for the targeted audience and the lead singer kept blaming it on the mic! The Chi-Lites lead singer was hoarse but they at least still put on a good show. The Fonics were excellent and should have ended the show. They had lots of energy Only disappointment with them was they did not sing "Didn't I blow your mind"

    Dramatics were superb!!!!!!

by Caramelcandy on 6/27/11Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

Wow ... is the first word that comes to mind when listening to the Dramatics. They sang just about everything one would want to hear (Toast to the Fool was missing). Their sound was crisp, clear and performed with such precision you would think you were back in 1971. If their goal was to please the crowd ... they were definitely on the mark. No disappointment here. The Fonics were a great opening act ... setting the stage for what was to come. Their harmony was on point. Natural talent comes to mind when listening to their delivery. Every song took you back to its origin. I am sure many remembered where they were with each note and lyric presented. Awesome!!! NOW ... the Chi-Lites missed the mark. Enough said.

    Old School Memories

by HAZELEYES53 on 6/27/11Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

Before coming to the show I was very interested to know who the Fonics were. I was not disappointed at all to find them a combination of the Delfonics and The Soft Tones. It felt good to have the teenage sing along years come back. They did it all. The Chi-lites though that famous Tenor voice was under the weather still showed and strutted their stuff. The Dramatics, with their group voice definitely still in tact, disappointed me because they were not singing the songs they became famous for. The crowd got quiet and many left as we did. When we were leaving they were just singing "Wanna Go Outside in the Rain".Maybe they turned it out but they had lost me. All in all this event was well organized. I love the fact that us Baby Boomers do have music we can look back on. Carter Barron keep it coming please and Thank you.

    Almost a Perfect Show

by Sonick on 6/27/11Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

The Fonics were wonderful! Everyone knew the songs and sang along. Their sound was great! Also the merging of two great groups was the right move! I'd like to see them again. I liked the way The Chilites came on stage, and I loved those blue suits. Their show was pretty good, even though their first tenor couldn't do the high notes. The oldest member of the group was hilarious and a real showman. I'd like to see them again. The Dramatics still have good harmony, but lost the crowd. I really only knew their hits and a few of their songs, so I lost interest except for the James Brown songs. They need to mix more of their hits into the show early on. Droves of people walked out on them, I guess because they were not familiar with the songs. I remembered the Dramatics being an awesome group, so I was looking for a great show. But, I was disappointed. Also, I didn't know that Ron Banks had passed last year.

    The Worst Show !!!!

by Localsinger on 6/27/11Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

This was my first show of many I'll be attending this summer, however if this is a what's in store I'll pass. The Dramatic's were one of my favorite vocal groups. I was also anticipating seeing the Chi-lites and Fonics but this was the worst show I've seen in a long time. First while standing in the will-call line that was way too long I missed the Fonics, they need to remedy that whole process. The Chi-lites came out apologizing to the audience knowing there performance was going to be bad from the start and it was BAD!!! Lastly The Dramatics were just as bad, they came out apologizing that they have lost members of the group and started singing songs that nobody has ever heard of. The crowd was so disappointed they started to sing to help them out. What happened to the Local groups from DC? where are they in the selection process? I know of many groups from here that would've been better than both Dramatics and Chi-lites for example that local group that opened up for the Whisper in 2009. Where are they in your selection process? Who screens these groups? They need more than a name reputation as you select them!

    Fonics, Dramatics-Great! Chi-Lites-Ok

by TG312 on 6/27/11Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

The Fonics opened the show and were on point!! The Chi-Lites (who I thought were the headliners) followed with a luke warm performance. They stated several times that the lead singer was horce. As a singer, this is never a good excuse although it happens. Also, the female singer seemed lost on a few of the songs. The Dramatics turned it out although there were periods where the audience did't know the songs they sang. The medely at the end was great.

The Fonics could have stayed on stage allllllllllllllllllll night, the were absolutely FANTASTIC!, Now the Chi-Lites were ok, my friend enjoyed them but it was hard to understand some of the songs or really did I know those songs and I grew up in the 70's. And the Dramatics were good, we left a little before time, but heard while walking out,but like I said before the FONICS were off the hook, they were GREAT. Thanks for the entertainment you have given us. Very enjoyable

    Fonics

by kennydb on 6/27/11Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

Nobody could touch the Fonics. They sounded like the old school great stepping groups. The crowd was good and the Chi-lites came out looking good and sounded good. The only let down was the Dramatics. Their new stuff sounded better than the old stuff. The James Brown and Snoop Dawg songs were the hit of the show.

    Dramatics sucked!

by DeeLG on 6/27/11Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

The final act in this trio of groups should have either been the Delphonics or the Chi Lites. The Dramatics did not have as many hits, and the crowd became disenchanted at their song selections. The crowd began to exit shortly after the group started their performance. Poor choice of performance agenda.

Chi-Lites were too cool for words!!!!!

by Agentmister on 6/27/11Carter Barron Amphitheatre - Washington

I enjoyed the show very much and I think I sang every song that was performed by the Delfonics and Chi-Lites. They truly represented "old school" on the highest level. I have been talking about the perfect weather, atmosphere and most of all perfect show at the Carter Barron. My husband and I truly enjoyed the program. I was not that familiar with the Dramatics' music and it appeared the audience wasn't either.
