I feel that the Fonics was excellent and the Base Player set it off.
i had the pleasure along with (3) of my closest friends of joining the fonics-- chi-lites and the dramatics on june 24th at the cater barron----- the weather was just right- the time was just right-- and the atmospere was let's just say- right on----- the show got started right on time----- the fonics was the 1st group to entertain the crowd-- they were just like i remembered them tall- dark and handsome- well dressed and the wonderful colongne fill the air-- there voices were so sexy, that was it for me-- they stole the show. i enjoyed the chi-lites and dramatics also-- it was a great experience- it's one of my favorite places to go in the city
THE FONICS DID NOT REHEARSE IT WAS PAINFUL WATCHING THEM MISS CUES AND STAND AROUND LOOKING LOST, SOMETIMES THEY SOUNDED GOOD. THE CHI-LITES DID NOT DISAPOINT ALTHOUGH THEIR FALSETTO LOST HIS VOICE THEY STILL ATEMPTED TO PUT ON A GOOD SHOW. THEY PAID HOMAGE TO THE SONGS THAT MADE US COME OUT TO SEE THEM, THEY ARE TRUE SHOWMEN. THE DRAMATICS DID NOT SET US ON FIRE, THEY SANG SOME OF THEIR OLD SONGS VERY BRIEFLY (THE GOOD ONES) THE NOT SO GOOD SONGS THEY SANG AS THOUGH THEY HAD CONNECTED WITH US, SADLY THEY DID NOT. WHAT'S SO WRONG WITH STICKING WITH THE OLD STUFF? OLD HEADS WANT TO HEAR OLD SONGS AND NOT OTHER PEOPLES OLD SONGS. S0-S0
the show was great and I enjoyed every act. I love the Dramatics and Chilites and the Fonics were really very, very good. I was surprised by them and can't remember seeing them before but they were well worth the price of the tickets and more.
Wonderful show, enjoyed the Fonics (they should have been the second group), enjoyed the Dramatics. However, the Chi-lites were a total waste.
The concert was great. I really enjoyed the Fonics and the Dramatics. Ron's voice was really missed. LJ Reynolds was the tops as always. The group needs to get a replacement for Ron Banks' voice. It will give LJ a chance to do only his parts. I just loved the exchange that Ron and LJ would do with their voices in certain songs. The Dramatics are still the tops in my book. The Fonics were fantastic. I always loved the lead voice in the Softones. The merging of songs was awesome.
I don't want to dis my folks, but overall the show was not impressive. I enjoyed the Fonics. They sang songs that we all knew and would expect to hear from the Delphonics, so that was nice. The Dramatics sounded good. Their voices were good and strong, particularly the lead singer. I loved him. But they kept singing songs that no one knew. Its like they didn't know which of their songs their fans loved. The Chilites were a disaster. I understand that one of the guys was horse. But it was just bad all around. The female singer was off key and couldn't sing the high notes. Disaster.
In my opinion, The Fonics were totally on point as opposed to the other two groups.
The concert was outstanding, I enjoyed the "old school" music. The groups looked good, nothing like todays groups, old school. I had a great time! The bands were great, the music was good.
The venue was really, really nice, but the concert was awful. Everyone I know that went said that it was really bad. The best group was the Fonics (Del Fonic cover band), the rest left much to be desired. We old folks came to here the hits not a whole bunch of new stuff we didn't know and definitely not a whole bunch of other people songs. It was just terrible, so we left early. The Carter Barron amphiteatre is a great place to see a show, but not that one. The whole show had an amteurish feel to it and I was totally dissapointed. It was nice to get out , see my friends, and enjoy the venue, but I wish I would have picked another concert there...like Cameo, who will be there weekend after next.
The group should have played more orginial songs. One of the Chi-Lites did not even sing. Why, because they said he sang over in London (somewhere) and his voice was not good. The Dramatics, did not sing enough of their songs, they sang other songs most of the night. The Fonics were about the best group but they sang first and the refreshment lines were so long that they were done by the time a seat could be obtained. (Note: That refereshment line is too long--- they need to hire more people or something.)
I thoroughly enjoyed the concert and listening to old R&B. Makes me wish that people would sing like this again and not be so ridiculously raunchy.
The Fonics were a pleasant surprise! They opened the show and stole the show! The Chi-Lites weren't at the top of their game. The Dramatics sounded great; however, they sang a lot songs that most people didn't know. For the money, overall it was a decent show.
I thought the Fonics where great! They should had came on second. The Dramatics were great voices were great. The Chi-lites were terrible! Off key, did'nt have the audience too worried about "The White House" instead of singing the songs people came to here them sing! Also, they should had came on first!
I enjoyed the show, the Dramatics was great, the Chi-Lites were a bit flat but still put on a ok show. I missed the Fonics, but heard they were good.
I absolutely loved the Fonics, they took me back to a time in my childhood when life was carefree and lots of fun!!! They should have ended the show, oh my goodness their voices were sharp and the tenor was able to hit every note like he did back in the day. The Chiltes were not that good, I think that they should have opened the show. The Dramatics were also very, very good. I could not wait to see who would replace the irreplacable RON BANKS. They had a younger guy trying to sing RON's parts and he was good, but there is only one RON BANKS (RIP)!! All in all, the show was very good!!!
...who missed this show. im a huge dramatics fan and their performance alone made the cost of the show worth it.
Too little time spent on songs that were chart busters. Rushed through songs and only sang a small portion of their well known hits. Too much time spent on singing songs not hits and well known. They were sung to my dismay all the way through. I came to hear them sing their signature songs/hits. I dd not enjoy hearing the beginning and not the whole song. This review is for all the groups that performed. The Chi Lites need to rethink the importance of having a female singer. She was not a plus at all. A mere distraction. Why come on the stage dressed in all black, Fonics? Did you not know that your outfits blended in with the black background ???. Please, do not sing the Temptations hits. Leave that to the Temptations to sing their own hits. I bet they do not sing your hits all the way through. I did not come to hear the Temptations.. Good talent was wasted. The audience got restless with a lot of un popular songs being sung. I came for the hits to be sung by the groups who made them famous. What a waste of time and effort. To have to sit there a long period of time and listen to groups sing whatever and not sing their songs that were hits..
There's nothing better than a beautiful balmy tonight at the Carter Baron in WAshington DC. The urban "lightly aged" crowd is always mellow - ready to have a good time and determined to keep it cool. This is the crowd that comes out the Carter Baron. I think that the evening suffered, however, from the similarities in the music between the three groups. The Fonics were mellow, well blending, great harmonies and sounded great. Not a lot of charisma, but good journeymen. The Chi-lites suffered when they chose to have a woman sing the falsetto tenor lead parts. I think that in all of Chicago there must be a good tenor somewhere. The vibrato of the lady's voice replaced the smoothness of the crooning that is expected. I think the Dramatics -- although wonderfully talented -- suffered because two hours of love songs is about one hour too much. The lead (LJ or LG) has a tremendous voice and a great personality, but seemed desperate to get the audience to stay involved.. But the set was too pat and there were too few hits to keep the audience engaged. Alas, by the end of the show 1/2 of the audience had left to find their car and get out of the parking lot.
I thought the show was awlful and so did many others. People started to leave before the last act. The chi-lites, who I love was a big disappointment. I will never pay to see them again.
