This musical was beautifully performed by the cast, with a special shout out to Catherine Ariale, who in her debut tour, wonderfully performed the role of "Lady"(Cher from around 20 to 28 years old). Ms. Ariale had down the hair flips, the arm movements, the limp wrists, the confidence, and other mannerisms of the Cher persona that this reviewer remembers from watching the real-life Cher on TV during the 1970's. Ms. Ariale also excelled in depicting the teasing humor directed at her one-time husband and business partner Sonny that was a staple of Cher's public persona. Her vocal cadence and singing ability were top notch, as well.
The actor portraying young Cher (a.k.a., "Babe") excellently embodied the pathos and untapped potential of a superstar in the making, and the actor portraying oldest Cher (a.k.a., "Star") provided entertaining exposition while bringing even more humor and powerful vocals to some of Cher's most iconic songs. These ladies, along with the actor portraying Sonny, were the standouts of the show. Another standout "character"were all the amazing Bob Mackie costumes!
While the performances were great, I only wish that the actual show itself was more entertaining. Some of the jokes, particularly in the opening minutes, fell flat to a silent audience. Also, I found the transitions between some scenes to be a bit strange or awkward, e.g., the singers who snapped and bopped up and down as they danced themselves off stage. I also found the entire scene with director "Robert Altman"to be odd and out of place. Perhaps it would have been more entertaining if a scene depicting the famous reunion of Sonny and Cher on the Late Show were substituted for that scene.
Overall, The Cher Show boasted entertaining performances and fans of Cher will no doubt enjoy the music and learning a little about Cher's life through her eyes.
