The Capitol Steps on Tour
The Capitol Steps offer welcome comic relief in the place that may need it the most: Washington, D.C. The long-standing comedy troupe has kept the nation's capital on its toes since December 1981, when a group of Senate staffers came together to lighten the mood at their annual Christmas party. Over the years, The Capitol Steps' cast has expanded, diversified and toured the country back and forth. In fact, there are now multiple casts — "the result of having large numbers of unemployed Hill staffers," as they put it. At home in Washington, they perform Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. On tour, they make stops at theaters, opera houses and other prestigious venues in cities from sea to shining sea. Expect silly skits, catchy songs, dead-on impressions and even some thought-provoking commentary, all in the name of fun — and the First Amendment, of course.
The Capitol Steps' motto says just about everything you need to know: "We put the MOCK in Democracy," the comedy team proudly proclaims. It all began in 1981 when Elaina Newport, Jim Aidala and the late Bill Strauss — three of Senator Charles Percy's staffers — put together a few skits and song parodies to share at their Christmas party. The performance was a success, and The Capitol Steps became Washington, D.C.'s go-to group for some much needed laughs. Since forming, the cast has brought on more former Capitol Hill staffers, along with many other theater and comedy veterans. They've recorded over 35 albums and have appeared on major network shows like Good Morning America, 20/20 and CNN's Inside Politics. Each year, they produce comedy specials for public radio, including "Politics Takes a Holiday," which airs every New Year's Eve and 4th of July. They've even performed for a handful of U.S. presidents. For the rest of us, The Capitol Steps share their latest comedy bits every Friday and Saturday night at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. Other cast members tour the country to help us all better digest the absurdities of our current state of affairs.
I have seen the Capitol Steps five times with five different casts in four different cities and they have always been hilarious and right on target with their punches. The Oak Bluffs performance was terrific.
I first saw the Capitol Steps when I worked in Washington DC when Reagan was President. They are today as timeless as ever with their political humor. Politicians come and go, but the Capitol Steps stay around singing their parody of the Beltway's newsmakers. The performance on Martha's Vineyard added a another five star to this group's shows! Not to be missed!

I plan to post a comprehensive and critical review if and/or as soon as I stop laughing. Funniest thing I've seen in years. Alec Baldwin and SNL have nothing on the Capitol Steps! I was front row center and expect to be there again next year.
This is the 3rd time I have seen The Capitol Steps. They never fail to disappoint. Their show is always clever, timely, and I always leave with a smile on my face. And, their singing voices are terrific.
As always, the Steps were witty, clever and current in using current politics and politicians in a brilliant musical revue. No one in Washington is spared; everyone feels the satire. Don’t miss this show.
Capitol Steps was awesome! We laughed the entire 90 minutes.
THIS YEAR THE SHOW WAS VERY ONE SIDED. THE SKITS WERE LACKING ANY REAL COMEDY. ALL COMMENTS WERE ADDRESSED REGARDING THE CURRENT PRESIDENT.
This edition of Capital steps was totally hilarious!!! I would highly recommend everyone to come see it, They had so much excellent materiel that some of the performers had a hard time keeping a straight face.
Just love Capital Steps! I try to see them wherever i can. They are great and the only ones who make me laugh so hard that it brings tears to my eyes....a must see for great political fun.

Capitol steps, as usual, were right on when it came to mocking the powers that be after our recent election. The show was freshky -written and hysterically funny. The actor who played Trump was spot on!

The performance by the Capitol Steps was hilarious and point on with their satire of current events including the recently concluded election. Your nearly constantly laughing or at least chuckling. Needless to say we were enjoyably entertained.
Excellent show, very witty and creative. Our friends were laughing hysterically. Show for the most part is fair, objective and mocks both sides- democrats and republicans. Does lean slightly more to the left however, which is not surprising these days.
