About

The Black Crowes are leaving the bullshit in the past. 15 years after their last album of original music, the Robinson Brothers present Happiness Bastards - their 10th studio album. Some may say the project has been several tumultuous years in the making, but we argue it's arriving at just the right time. Call it brotherly love or music destiny that brought them back together, the highly anticipated record consecrating the reunion of this legendary band just may be the thing that saves rock & roll. In a time where the art form is buried beneath the corporate sheen of its successors, The Black Crowes are biting back with the angst of words left unsaid penned on paper and electrified by guitar strings, revealing stripped, bare-boned rock & roll. No gloss, no glitter, just rhythm and blues at it's very best - gritty, loud, and in your face.

Since The Black Crowes reunited in 2019, they've made a triumphant return to form with over 150 shows spanning 20 countries worldwide, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Shake Your Money Maker, the album that put them on the map. Upon their return from the road, they knew they needed something new to show for their lost time. The Robinson Brothers and longtime bassist Sven Pipien headed to the studio with producer Jay Joyce in early 2023 and the experiences of years past transcribed themself through the music as the band found their way back to their roots. And it's finally here - Happiness Bastards is out March 15, 2024.

The Black Crowes = Best Rock 'n' Roll Show

by WyldStallynz on 9/3/09Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

The Black Crowes continue to put on the best rock shows in the world. Last night's show was in supported of their new album "Before the Frost...Until the Freeze". The Album was released three days prior to the show. This show was a great mix of old and new songs. They played 9 New Songs from the Album. There is a great diversity of sounds on this album, and that was evident last night. From Country, to Blue Grass, to Rock, and even a disco feel with "I ain't Hiding". This one will remind you of Kiss "I was made for Lovin You". The best new song, and future long jam tune, was "Been a Long Time (Waiting On Love). This one starts out with a Born on the Bayou feel, and explodes into an all out jam. They also cranked out classics like Soul Singing, Good Friday, Wiser Time, She Gave Good Sunflower, Sister Luck, Sting Me, Remedy, and Thick 'n' Thin. The great thing about seeing the Crowes is that they change the setlist up every night (ala the Grateful Dead), and they keep everything fresh and energetic. They have so many songs in their vault to choose from. In addition, they continue to write and create great new songs. Larry Campbell, who is all over the album, sat in for a number of songs, as he was in Levon' Helms band, that opened. Chris and Rich sat in with Levon for "The Weight". I got their too late to see Truth and Salvage. I am seeing the show in Asbury Park on Saturday, and I would highly recommend this show to anyone.

Levon and Black Crowes jammed out

by levonlove on 9/3/09Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

This show was fantastic. Levon Helm is a legend, and he didn't even sing but was amazing. Great band. See them! Black Crowes were way beyond what their hit singles were. They're a real jam band with super talented instrumentalists behind them. Great show overall. Black Crowes are clearly going in a good direction with Levon's help.

    Crowing about the crowes!

by nycnurse on 9/3/09Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

Awesome show, kind of country, bluesy. Chris still has it - amazing voice and his signature dance moves. wish he played one or two more hits though.

    Where are the hits, man?

by missingangel on 9/3/09Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

Yeah, the band sounded tight and played a long set. It was a beautiful evening in Central Park, and the show should have been awesome. But they only played one big hit (Remedy), which rocked out. Otherwise everything pretty much sounded the same to me. Granted I'm not a gigantic Crowes fan, but a couple more hits mixed in with whatever else they wanted to play would have been nice. How could they not play She Talks to Angels??? The crowd was relatively subdued considering it was a loud rock show. If the Crowes had ripped out Hard to Handle or Jealous Again or Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution, they would have really gotten the crowd into it. As it was, my husband and I were very disappointed.

    Kick Ass!

by LoriH on 9/3/09Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

I've never been to summer stage before. The sound quality was amazing it was great to be in outdoor venue that felt like you were in the country but you were right in the heart of Manhattan. Plus The Black Crowes performance was amazing! Levon Helm and The Band opened for them which was a surprise (not sure why they didn't promote that more), cause they sang all their great songs and Levon was rockin' it!!!

    Crowes at Summerstage

by Greg12 on 9/3/09Central Park Summerstage - Central Park - New York

The Black Crowes never disapoint. Last nights version of Oh! Sweet Nuthin' by the Velvet Underground was a pleasant surprise. Wiser time and She gave good sunflower were also personal highlights. Sometimes they come out with all crowd favorites and other times, like last night, were a bit deeper. Both ways, crowes still put on a good show.

Black Crowes @ Rams Head, Baltimore

by rsbalto on 9/1/09Rams Head Live! - Baltimore

The best, tightest and "live" band ever. Nice to see a band actually play without all the glitz and glamour. They mixed the set up with new songs, rare, and very few hits, which was fine with me.

    The greatest Amercian Rock Band!

by mediaguy on 8/31/09Rams Head Live! - Baltimore

I have seen the Crowes over 30 times and this had to be one of the best sounding shows I have ever seen. Rams Head is a great place to see a show. The sound there is incredible. They played for 2 hours with a mix of their hits, some jammin, and just the usual great rock n roll you get from the Crowes!

    Crowes at Rams Head Live!

by BrotherCrowe on 8/31/09Rams Head Live! - Baltimore

What a great show! This was my first trip to Rams Head Live and I loved it! It was easy to find. There was a parking garage practically next door. Plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. The venue was small and intimate (with an awesome balcony to watch from also.) The Crowes put on an incredible rock show as usual. Half the songs were from the new album.... GOOD STUFF! Sound was killer... rockin but not distorted. The band was in fine form. Chris's voice was great, Luther and Rich are definitely connecting more than ever before, Sven is the man, Adam's improving with every show, and Steve is welll.... Steve! Always catch the boys whenever they're in the tri-state area and will definitely go to RML again for a show. Had a blast!

The Black Crowes let me down.

by Hounddog1 on 8/30/09Cape Cod Melody Tent - Hyannis

I was very disapointed. although the band sounded good they only played 4 songs that i knew. they didnt even play "hard to handle" . and when they came out for the encore i thought for sure that they would play "she talks to angels". Instead was just another song i had never heard before. I dont know if they are promoting a new record but i was anticipating hearing their hit songs. Just Disapointed....

I have always loved their music but have never seen them live. Simply amazing, I wished they could have played longer but at the Cape Cod Melody Tent they shut down the stage at10:30 PM. I was not finished so I will have to see them again.

    Black Crowes have changed

by 85ApponequetGrad on 8/27/09Cape Cod Melody Tent - Hyannis

I was very disappointed in the BC show last night......perhaps I'm getting old or stuck in a prior decade, but I went hoping to hear the Black Crowes that I fell in love with years ago, the songs that made them famous to begin with.....instead I felt like I was at a Grateful Dead jam session. Not that there's anything wrong with the Dead, but that's not what I was going for. Only knew 2 songs! Saw BC years ago and they rocked the house. Very disappointed. Great musicians, but not the music I went to see them for. By the middle of the show, there were more people outside the Melody Tent than inside, so I don't think that I am alone in this opinion.

Crowes once again put on a great show.

by MikeWD40 on 8/27/09Cape Cod Melody Tent - Hyannis

This is my fifth time seeing the Black Crowes and as per usual, they put on an electrifying show. They sounded excellent and it looked like the whole band was having a good time onstage and not merely going through the motions as they played a show the previous night in Virginia. A showcase of their new album I would think since there were a few songs I did not recognize and I am familiar with all of their past work. Probably the only thing I can be critical of is the quasi disco like instrumental piece they played. I knew as this strange deviation from the bluesy rock that is their standard started that it would be a great time for a bathroom break and from what I heard on the outskirts of the tent, I was right. I enjoyed the new songs they played and will take a look at the set list on their website when I get a chance. Definitely this show has stirred interest in the new CD the Crowes will be putting out and I am definitely going to pick up a copy. Please don't think I am plugging for the band because I am not. I really liked the new tunes, the songs sounded fresh but still had that gritty style.

The Black Crowes were suprisingly fresh and fun!!!

by lyramac on 8/27/09Cape Cod Melody Tent - Hyannis

I got these tix for my husband for fathers day, the only complaint he had was they didn't play the older songs that they are known for like "she talks to anges" and others. The playlist was mostly current songs and a few older ones thrown in there. We had fun, but were hoping for a few more songs in the encore. Overall they sounded great and the pianist was amazing, I have never seen anyone's fingers fly like that on the four keyboards that he was using! All of the musicians were amazing and everyone was jammin'.

    Black Crowes just can't disappoint....

by TyphoonFerri7 on 8/27/09Cape Cod Melody Tent - Hyannis

Longer hair, longer beards, but still they same southern fried blues jam rock that seems to get better and better. The additions of Luther Dickenson on slide and mandolin as well as the keyboardist have given the band a fuller sound. The majority of the set was new songs, which I felt were solid throughout. Coincidentally, it felt like songs from Music from the Big Pink... hmmm... i wonder why!? Although I feel Warpaint's songs are stronger than what I heard last night for a live setting...after one listen. Plus the concepts of the album is a bit different. I am off to see them again tonight and I look forward to it. Recommend..YES! I drove 1 hr 45 min each way and still got to work by 7am and I'll put in another 2hrs 45 min total commute to see them tonight!
