    Nice but hard to hear.

by MPD on 3/2/22Centennial Hall - Tucson

The musical was well done however it was hard to hear the spoken dialog. The music volume level was good. Just a 10% increase would have done it. Enjoyed the production.

Tickets should have been less expensive

by STRWRZ on 3/1/22Centennial Hall - Tucson

The show was ok. There should have been more “band” music playing than just at the end. Dialog was WAY too soft. Hard to hear along with some strong accents.

    Disappointed

by Greg on 2/28/22Centennial Hall - Tucson

Venue too large and unmanageable. Could not understand and therefore lost the plot. Could have been amplified much better.

    Disappointed

by Bette on 2/16/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

I was thrilled that this New York smash hit was coming to Phoenix, but I and my friends were underwhelmed by the performance here. For some reason, the dialogue was not understandable at all! I know the acoustics are not great at Gammage, but on top of that the way the microphones were set up disallowed comprehension of the words being spoken by almost all of the actors. To make it worse, they performed with Middle Eastern accents, of course, but the entire show flew by without my understanding almost every word. Needlesss to say, I could not really enjoy the show when I didn’t know what the players were saying to one another! And this was the same experience four other playgoers had that saw it with me, sad to say. Additionally, the pace was very slow and the roller skating scenes were very poorly executed. I looked forward greatly to attending the show but was quite let down by some very mediocre performances in addition to the problems outlined above. On a positive note, the lead female singer was good, despite my not being able to understand a word she spoke due to the impossible audio transmission.

Fun touching story Little underwhelming considering the hype and all the theater awards it won

    Kinda Slow

by Ardy R on 2/15/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

I love musicals and we attend every Broadway show. This show has potential and the cast are very talented. But the accents are unnecessary (especially in today’s PC climate) and make it very difficult to understand. The slow dialogue and emphasis on facial expressions also make it difficult to understand. I would NOT see his show again.

    Disappointing

    by J-phoenix on 2/15/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

This show was unfortunately the worst and most boring theatre experience we have had. Not sure if the actors had a bad night, but the story line was weak and slow and it was just not entertaining. Very few laughs throughout the show. Sorry for the bad review, but just being honest.

    Excellent show!

by Campiano on 2/15/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

Good story, excellent actors. My only quibble was that we were in the nosebleed seats and couldn't understand some of the dialogue. Don't know if that was our location or the amplification. Really enjoyed all of the musicians!!

    Fair production

by Rock n Roll Lover on 2/13/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

I would rate this a C. On the positive side, the story showed the power of music in bringing people together. It also showed that when you engage with people who are different than you (different religion, different culture, etc.) on a personal level - connections can be made. All of the politics are put aside. However, I feel that there were many drawbacks. First, it was difficult to understand the actors. I recognize that they were speaking with accents (English was not their first language), but I missed lots of dialog. In addition, it was slow moving. Also, I wouldn't call this production a musical. It was a play that had music inserted in it at certain times. Finally, there were no big musical numbers and no memorable score that you could sing as you were leaving. I reference, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Hamilton and others. For these reasons, I give it a C.

    Very disappointed

by CyndiG on 2/13/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

Our family has attended MANY plays over the years, from HS plays to small theaters, to large professional touring companies. This has to be the worst one I have ever seen. The quality of the singing was fine, and there were a couple of laughs, but the content of the material that the actors had to work with was lacking. The accents were so thick that you couldn't understand what was even being said. The best thing about play was the cool rotating set design. The off-Broadway & Broadway productions may have been better, but this one fell flat. So many pauses in the awkward dialogue that it felt like they were trying to drag it out to fill the time, and without an intermission because everyone would have walked out if they had the choice. A few people actually did in the middle. I kept thinking it HAS to get better, it won a bunch of awards. But when it was over, we left thinking, what was the point? What a waste of my time and money. Very disappointed in the evening.

    Could have been better

by winslow on 2/13/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

It was difficult to understand what the actors were saying...I missed 75% of the dialogue. The PA system needs improvement. The music part of the play was fine. Perhaps a large video screen would have shown the actors up close also. ASU did a tremendous job in the parking and directing of traffic.

    Very Entertaining

I loved the music and the show! I had a hard time following the story because of the heavy accents! Enjoyed the way the scenes changed in a circle!

    Just okay

by Theatergirl on 2/12/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

10 Tony’s???? Really???? Music soothes the soul theme. Not much music and not much story. Saw this at Gammage in Tempe, sound system is poor. Dialogue muffled, song lyrics better for some reason. No Egyptians in Israel discussion I could see or hear. Actors good, music not typical Broadway, so liked it, just didn’t love it.

    Liked it on Broadway better!

by reeft on 2/11/22ASU Gammage - Tempe

Was anxious to see the touring troupe of The Band's Visit. Did see the Broadway production with all the original cast. Maybe it was the angle of our seat or the acoustics at Gammage, but I had a hard time understanding the actors. And the primary female lead was NOT there on opening night....the understudy performed. Either they were talking too softly or my hearing is going. Do love the story line but maybe attending on opening night in Tempe (which started 1/2 hour later than posted) wasn't ideal and they needed to work out the kinks.

    Wonderful show!

by eldLA on 12/26/21Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

This is a wonderful show, with beautiful music, creative sets, and a heartwarming story. I had seen the movie so had some background -- but the cast of this show surpassed my expectations. The Dolby is a lovely theater but traffic on a Sunday evening was terrible and parking difficult to find. Plus security/Covid protocols also complicated everything. We gave ourselves extra time which we definitely needed.

    Great Play

by Ed and Louise on 12/22/21Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

This was a well executed play about a visiting band that arrives in the wrong town and has to spend the night. The play intervenes the stories of band members and local residents in a very personal way. The play is well worth seeing.

    good music

by Lisalovesmusicals on 12/21/21Dolby Theatre - Hollywood

The acting and music was good. The story line was boring and not uplifting. I was hopping for a light comedy at these trying times. This was the first time my hubby and I went to a live theater in a very long time. I was ready to leave at intermission but there wasn't one. Sorry for the bad review, but honesty is the best policy.

It was the most boring show I have ever seen. Nothing happened, the music and dialogue were dreadful, should have left after the first 30 mins
