THE B-52S IN CONCERT:

Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.

  • They rocked the house!

by Patriko on 7/15/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Even after all these years, the B52's can still rock! From oldies like Private Idaho to their recent new album, the band was amazing. The music made you remember being young again. It was great to feel the excitment of the band affecting the crowd. The B52's are truely dynamic and had everyone out of their seats rockin!

  • B-52's - What a show!!

    by musiclover01 on 7/15/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

This show was simply amazing from beginning to end. They not only know how to sing, but also how to be true entertainers. The entire crowd stood up, danced and sang for the entire show. I will certainly go and see them again the next time they are in Portland, Oregon.

  • B-52's are still the B-52's

by Danadane on 7/15/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del MarRating: 5 out of 5

Unfortunately many 80's bands are still touring and not sounding so hot nowadays. Then again some 80's bands "are" still touring and sound better than ever. The B-52's are one band that still rocks the house and gets all ages to turn out and party. It was a blast to hear the B-52's hit all the same notes they did back in their hayday. What a great summer night we had in Del Mar.

  • B52's rock the house!

by Bouffant on 7/15/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

The B52's still put on a great show. Despite cold wet weather, they had the crowd on their feet and singing along to all of our favorites. We were waiting for "Love Shack" and weren't disapointed. Looking forward to seeing them again soon!!!

  • B-52's Rock out at the Portland Oregon Zoo

by CCPercy on 7/15/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

I went to this concert with my Mom and my best friend and her Mom. We all loved it except for the rain! My friend and I had learned lots of the song lyrics and we were able to sing along with the B-52's. We also danced the whole time!!

  • Fun evening, despite the rain and mud

by EmilyH on 7/15/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

We had a blast at the concert! Outdoor grassy amphitheater and rain right through the end of the opening act. But the clouds cleared and we danced the night away. The B-52s put on a great show!

  • Like Drowned Rats!!

by Jackeeboy on 7/15/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Weather was horrible, toughed it out for 90mins in a torrential downpour. We all were soaked before the concert started. Luckily the clouds parted when the band came on and it was a great concert. Certainly it tested my love for the band!!!

  • The B52's was so funny!

by Watcher on 7/15/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

It was a perfect band after a heavy rain. These guys have being entertaining the world for a long time and I hope they will be around for many years!

  • B-52's were great, weather was awful!

by PortlandMichelle on 7/15/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

The B-52's were so much fun, and I enjoyed seeing them live for the first time (I missed out in the 80's). The concert was held outside though and it poured rain, which of course made it not as enjoyable!

  • B52's at the Oregon Zoo - Rocked!!

by aimless on 7/15/09Oregon Zoo - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

They were so much fun! It was dumping rain and everyone was having a blast! They sound just like they do on cd live...That is rare!

  • Fun Fun Fun

by MistyMoe on 7/13/09Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

How could it be anything else besides fun?! This show was appealing to people of all ages. It was so fun to watch everyone else having so much fun dancing their mess around in their colorful outfits. Everyone seemed to be in a great mood which always makes an event like this so much more enjoyable. The B-52's rocked with all those great songs and moves, still got the moves! The bar sold the best Rock Lobsters these lips have tasted! The only thing lacking was an opening band but can't help wonder who would you get for that honor, maybe that was the challenge!

  • B52's Boston House of Blues

by gpp10 on 7/13/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Great time. Great Band. Great Venue. We arrived early, stood on the second level in front. Great.

  • great band but crowded House

by deadbeatdancer on 7/13/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the band! I've always wanted to see them & they were every bit as high energy as expected. The concert venue at House of Blues, however, made me wonder if I'll go back. It was so tightly packed you could barely worm your way through the crowd, much less dance. And dancing is part of the experience. I wasn't tall enough to see the band through the crowd, regardless of where I stood, & I tried every part of the room. So while I would recommend seeing the B52s, I would say not if they're playing at the House, unless they begin limiting ticket sales.

  • B-52' was a dance party!!

by scoob1226 on 7/13/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Great show!!! Everyone was dancing. They sounded great and played all their hits.

  • B52s still cosmic - still dancing fools

by Willbuzz on 7/13/09House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

The B52s rocked a packed house in Boston at the House Of Blues. The crowd could'nt help but move their feet to the funky beats that the B52s were laying down. The band mixed songs from their new album, Funplex, with favorites from their cosmic past and the crowd seemed to like it all, constantly dancing and smiling to the funkiness around them. Of course songs like Love Shack and Rock Lobster were received with the loudest ovations, but every song seemed to come across well and the crowd never stopped moving and grooving. This band is just flat out fun and the crowd was more than willing to take a cosmic ride to some outer galaxys party beach to dance and be silly for the night. Good Stuff indeed.

  • a bit of tension maybe?

    by BFuddled52 on 7/13/09Rams Head Live! - BaltimoreRating: 4 out of 5

The show rocked, the venue is fantastic (except for the Baltimore commute) but it looked as if there was a bit of tension afloat. too many cocktails before they went onstage perhaps. The girls never even looked at each other, the dudes were posers, but they do know how to belt it out!

  • Rockin!

    by Jajf34 on 7/13/09Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

I was blown away by the energy of the band. I did not get to see them at the height of their careers. i was unsure if they could still get down.....but they totally did! The crowd loved them. Everryone was dancing and the Uptown is a great venue.
