THE B-52S IN CONCERT:

Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.

  • B-52s still got it

by oldrocklobster on 8/15/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 4 out of 5

B-52s music really "works" when all of the band members are really enjoying themselves - the music is all over the top and has to be performed that way. Last night night was a great example - everyone - especially Kate - was 100% into it; no old timers phoning it in for a buck here. Good show for those of us who first saw them in Athens before they made it big, but our 7,10, and 13 yo daughters danced through the show, too. All generations came out humming and smiling.

  • The B-52's are the most fun band on the planet!!!!

    by len313 on 8/15/09The Canyon - Agoura HillsRating: 5 out of 5

The first time I saw them was at the US festival in 1982. I was hooked. I have seen them several times since. Well 27 years later and all of us older Fred, Kate, Cindy and Keith still have as much energy and enthusiasm as the first time I saw them. The venue was intimate and we were close to the stage. This setting made the fun factor even more infectous. It was great, I'd go again!

Fred was in perfect form (as well as the whole gang!). Brought back many memories of my days in Athens going to see these guys!! Had a blast!

Opening band was not so great - like pushing bamboo shoots under my fingernails, but the B-52's were amazing!!! They can still Rock it out after all these years...

  • B-52's Never Let Me Down

This was the 2nd time I have seen the B-52's in concert. They put on a wonderful and entertaining show as always.

  • Feeling 20 again!

by bigpeaches on 8/15/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 5 out of 5

As a 30+ years fan of the B's, this was my umpteenth time seeing them live. I don't like the word "comeback" because in my mind, they've never been away. But they are sleek, tight and revitalized by "Funplex." I danced nonstop. This tacky little dance band from Athens remains the greatest party outfit in the Universe! This concert proved it.

Great show and great venue- one of Atlanta's best kept secrets. B-52's are one of the great party bands of all time!

  • Timeless Party Band Still Rocks

by Dodger59 on 8/14/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

The B-52's performed at the Cape Cod Colesseum back in 1983 where I first saw them live. 26 years later, I am happy to say that they know how to bring a show of fun music to the masses. Their new material blends in with the classic tunes from their first album. The Twin River Event Center is certainly an upgrade in Venues. The Colesseum is now a warehouse, while the event center at Twin River Casino is a lavish comfortable place to watch a show. The evenings crowd was a well behaved mix of people who where anxious to have a good time. The show began with Pump from the lastest album FUNPLEX. The 90 minute set included many new songs, as well as a welcome mixture of past hits. Lots of past memories were brought back with Rock Lobster, Planet Claire, 52 Girls, and Quiche Loraine. The main vocals by Kath Pierson, and Cindy Wilson interlaced with Sprechsang style of Fred Schneidner backed by Keith Strickland's guitar work are forever etched in the pleasure zone of my mind. Am I living in my own Private Idaho, or am I living in Channel Z? I am not certain, but I know that I would love to see the B-52's again. The late Ricky Wilson would be happy to know that his music lives on, and that the group he help found is still warmly welcome. The Band, is a bit older, but they do seem to enjoy their work. My best praise is for Kate, and Cindy who are the hardest working vocalists who give the group the trademark sound. Keith who was the original drummer has seemlessly maintained the Rick Wilson guitar sound is equally gived. And as for Fred, every Circus needs a ringmaster. Fred plays a mean smoke detector, and glockenspiel and Cindy is great on the Bongos. A good night was had by all, and I wish the band all the best in their future.

  • B 52's at Twin River

by Jaxdad on 8/13/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

Great venue, you could get right up close, great acoustics, and we were able to dance the whole time right in front of the stage. Great show, the B 52's are still vibrant!

  • B-52s perform to an energized audience!

by DredlockRasta on 8/12/09The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa MesaRating: 4 out of 5

A great concert with lots of energy that emitted from the band to the audience. 95% of the packed house stood on their feet from the moment the B-52s walked onto the stage, and danced to the music the entire performance! Definitely a fun concert. Would recommend the B-52s to everyone and would definitely go see them again!

  • B52's are fantastic!

by Postal22 on 8/11/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time seeing them. As soon as i heard they were coming close by i jumped on getting my tickets. They are fantastic and put on such a fun show. Not to mention, they havent aged a bit! Love the newer female guitar player. She rocks! I never get sick of them.

  • WOW

by esacc on 8/11/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

I love the B52's and always have. The show was very energetic and fun. The music was great. I did find it a little to hear the words to the songs though. I think standing room should be sold at these concerts. We pay for seats and then have to stand anyway to see. Although I danced all nite, it was tight. BUT I LOVED THE CONCERT!

  • Incredible !!!

  • The B-52's were kick ass!!!!!

by Katiemay on 8/10/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

They were totally awesome!!! From their backdrop, to the sound , to their enthusiastic performance, they've still got it. I'm so glad I attended this event.

  • The B52s- just as good as they were years ago!

by Lynn93 on 8/9/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

They had a lot of energy and were so fun to watch. Everyone was dancing by their seats to hits such as Roam, Love Shack, and Rock Lobster. They sounded just as good as on their CDs, if not better! Every seat was a great seat in this small venue. There wasn't an opening act, and they played for a little over an hour and a half. I really wish they would have played for longer. I was a little disappointed that it ended so soon. They didn't play as many songs as I had hoped for, but what they did perform was fantastic.

  • B52's brought me back

by SeventiesSteve on 8/9/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

Going to see the B52's in Lincoln RI was a trip back to one of the great bands of the eighties. Their unique sound was instantly recognizable as soon as they started. It was great to see all of the hipsters from the seventies and the eighties in the crowd dancing along. The two big screens helped us all with our poor vision. Two bars and not a bad seat in the house. Great night out, but not too late cause I am old now!

  • Fun Time!

by maxmart on 8/9/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was a fun time. Mixed age crowd but all were into the music. The B52s still have it...great sound....entertaining. Loved the venue for a concert...could dance in the aisles and no ushers were ordering us back to our seats. The song Love Shack sounded as good as ever!!!!

  • b52's rocked

by dancinmommy on 8/9/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

this show was fantastic....i'm just bummed that they didnt' play longer...it only lasted about an hour. :( i don't know if this was the band's choice or a limit from the venue-but i would have enjoyed a longer show. other than that, everything was amazing! the people who worked the show were great...very kind and fun...seemed happy to be there as opposed to some others i've seen at other venues. all in all-great show.

  • B52 at Twin River - Amazing

by BigGuyNH on 8/8/09Twin River Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

The B52s were amazing at the Twin River casino last night, 7-Aug-2009. The venue was perfect for them, and crowd was really into the party sound that the B52 delivered. If you have a chance this summer to party with the B52s. DO IT!
