THE B-52S IN CONCERT:
Since forming in 1976, The B-52s have always stood out for their thrift-store chic style and ability to craft catchy, retro-inspired hits. Over the years they might have let their beehives down, but every-thing else about the band is still as tight as it was 30 years ago. Their call-and-response choruses always get fans singing along, and their fun and funky grooves will have you dancing right along with the band. The B-52s are taking their party atmosphere to select cities across the U.S. on their 2015 tour, bringing all their cool style and flamboyant fun to a town near you.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Named after a particular type of beehive hairdo, The B-52s rocketed out of Athens, Georgia in the late ’70s. Starting with their smash hit “Rock Lobster”, the band developed a reputation for campy fun and catchy melodies that carried over to other favorites like “Planet Claire” and “Private Idaho”. By the end of the decade, the band achieved a major mainstream radio breakthrough with the hits “Love Shack” and “Roam”. The band stayed relevant into the ’90s, appearing in The Flintstones live action movie (as “The BC-52’s”) and performing the theme song from the Nickelodeon cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life. Almost 40 years later, this zany garage band is still having a blast -- and still sounds like a blast from the past.

The B-52s sounded pretty good... Kate and Fred more than Cindy. The backup band was pretty solid. Germania Ampitheatre in Austin has fold-up chairs with terrible markings that couldn't be seen at night, so it took a long time to find my seat. Because of lightning delays, the opener Lene Lovich was cancelled.
Show was fun and sounded great for an amphitheatre. Better than Moody for GA tickets.
The B-52s were great as was Devo. Due to bad weather in the area, the concert started late and was cut short (opener didn't play, shortened set list from the B-52s). We enjoyed the actual concert and the seats were good too. Only downside was the lack of organization and/or planning by the venue on how to manage the situation with the weather. They waited to send people back to the parking garage during the rain, folks were soaked by then. There was no communication down the line or even any via a bull horn so that everyone would know as to what was happening. Nothing on social media either. They get an F for lack of planning for it for sure.
I always seem to see bands toward the end of their tour. That can be a let-down because their vocal cords are shredded. But both Devo and B-52's sounded really good! Of course the party music was great, they played most of the hits you want to hear. I can check this one off my bucket list!
Despite the rain delay the B-52s and Devo provided a smashing dance party at the Germania Amphitheater on Saturday night. (Sad to miss the chance to see Lene Lovich.) This reviewer was also in attendance at the previous week's concert by Alice Cooper and Judas Priest which culminated with a thorough drenching just as Alice closed the show. After months of no precipitation in the Austin area, we were blessed/cursed with rain limited to these two events. Such is life.
What a great time... You couldn't help but dance! We had a blast!!!
Due to rain & lightning concert was delayed. Lack of venue communication. Very unsafe walking in rain from parking lot- mud, rocks & no lighting in dark, no tram to/from remote lot. An outdoor venue needs a better plan especially in region with severe weather. With the lightning, we were directed to walk to parking garage but had to walk in mud & on slippery rocks. My party left since radar showed continued storms for hours. When we saw that weather was clearing an hour later, we drove back since friend at show kept us updated (venue did not update their site or social media). Artist site update was before our evacuation. When my party returned. We had to park in the most remote lot. The walking in the dark was treacherous. We found out Lene Lovich did not perform & B52s went on 1st due to time. So we missed them. Luckily we got to our seats right before Devo. Had Lovich gone on as planned, we would have seen 2 bands. We drove from Dallas & spent a great deal on that trip so we were extra frustrated. Devo was amazing. So glad we got to see them. After the show more Lack of communication by venue. Big group of people waiting for tram back to lot. 30+ minutes after show a bus arrived & only took us to the first lot so we still had to walk another half mile. Driver told us trams wait until most of the drivers are gone due to traffic. There were many lanes on the road so easy to hsve dedicated tram lane. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS VENUE AGAIN!
Delayed an hour, rain, lightning, mud, and a long walk to rideshare drop off/pick up - not fun for a shortened show that was not inexpensive
The venue was awful. I would never go to see a show again at the Germania amphitheater in Austin Tx . We had the premium parking and it was a half a mile away from the venue. It wouldn’t have mattered so much except it was torrential downpours and thunder and lightning that we had to walk through to wait in a mile long line in the pouring rain for an hour before they told us to retreat to the parking garage or back to our cars to wait and hear if the show was going to go on with a two hour delay, but beside that. B 52s were fun. They’re pretty campy and more of a novelty group but Devo was a master performance, they are truly artists with a message. Their performance was so powerful with their amazing videos and costume changes and high energy and it all brought it back. Devo made it worth the soggy wait , as they really put on a stellar show.
Great concert. I was very impressed by Devo and B52. It was my first time seeing them in concert and I absolutely loved it!
The B52s and Devo looked and sounded great. I had seen both of these bands many years ago. Part of the fun with both of the bands is the visual appeal of the videos along with their hair and clothes.
Devo was FANTASTIC!! The B-52’s were way fun, but the show got cut short because of lightning. Everyone had to return to their cars for an hour before the show. I was fine with that, but they just cut Lene Lovich off the bill. NO! I am a huge fan. Bummed.
The B-52s were great. It rained, so the show was delayed. I was extremely disappointed that we didn’t get to see Lena Lovich. Devo was okay but they aren’t nearly as talented as Lovich.
Looking back on the Cosmic De-Evolution tour, featuring the B-52’s, Devo, and Lene Lovich, at the Alpharetta, Ga, amphitheater, makes for some wonderful memories! BIG fan of all three acts since their beginnings. Great, energy-filled night, standing, dancing with fans to some of the band’s most memorable songs. Fantastic entertainment!
Our first time visiting the PNC Music pavilion, The B52s are the BEST DAMN PARTY BAND in the land! The fact they played my favorite tunes made this an incredible show. You could tell that age has not been kind to their voice, but the energy could not be denied. I've been to a dozen or more B52 shows and this one was as good as any I have seem. Finishing with Rock Lobster and a very large red lobster on stage is a memory that will stay with me for a very long time.
Great experience with 2 iconic bands Great experience with 2 iconic bands Great experience with 2 iconic bands Great experience with 2 iconic bands
What a great show with all the nostalgia! Great crowd, and really nice attendants working the concessions, aisles, and merchandise booths! Wr even got a great seat upgrade!
The show was amazing. Both bands were extremely high energy and crowd oriented! I escaped the stress of life for a few hours, thanks to all the band members, and everyone behind the scenes for making it all come together. The venue was staffed polity, the vip package/ with parking was well worth it.
The B-52's put on a good show. I particularly enjoyed the the vintage video they share. I was glad to see them perform their greatest hits and a few sleepers that I really love (Mesopotamia).
