$10.00 to Park?!
by cimmie420 on 8/23/09Constellation Brands Performing Arts Center - CMAC - CanandaiguaRating: 5 out of 5Okay I can’t say I’ve been with the Brothers for 40 years…. Although I can say I’ve been with ‘em for a solid 38. At the tender age of 12 I found two important components in my life… Pot and my love for southern rock/blues. I grew up with a strong influence of Motown music, probably because it was outlawed in our house. Country girls didn’t listen to that … well; if you’re from “back in the day” you know what your father would call it.
I found British music wasn’t my cup of tea, west coast music didn’t really impress me; well except for Santana the rhythm was totally exceptional, just as it is today, then I heard the Brothers: Gregg, Duane, Barry, Dickey, Jai Johanny Johanson (Jaimoe), and Butch Trucks. Last night’s Brother’s performance at CMAC was a fitting tribute to Duane.
They started the show with a dedication to a fallen brother… A slide presentation of pictures of Duane, album covers, and various pictures of days ago, all to Hot’Lanta. The evening has begun. Sorry I can’t leave ya a playlist… my mind and memory was taken over by the passionate guitar works of both Warren and Derek.
I did find strangely that the crowd leaned more towards Derek, not sure if most were familiar with Warren’s accomplishments. This made it more special when Warren came out with Gregg to do Sweet Melissa. Many people I believe people were expecting Derek, I’ll confess I thought maybe too. But in his skilled, mastered way Warren made it all his.
As the two hours ticked the stage was visited by members of Widespread Panic, Jimmy Herring, Dave Schools, and John Bell weaved though very nicely. The night was filled with old standbys; Wastin’ Time No More, Don’t Keep Me Wondering, post Dickey; Rocking’ Horse, Desdemona, covers; Van Morrison’s And It Stoned Me and of course the jam sessions.
If you ever loved the Allman Brothers at one time in your live I suggest you get off your ass and get to one of the shows. Remember it’s been a long hard road for these guys. Finally I believe the Good Lord has smiled down and blessed them with forgiven and peace.
Rock on!
Oh yeah... CMAC was okay, sound was fair, security was fairly liberal, drinks were a little over priced – water $2.00, beer ranged from think $6.00 (plastic) bottle of Coors, $8.00 16oz Blue Moon, Molson’s Candian, or Coors, $10.00 24oz cans Molson’s. Vibe was a little bewildering… some hard core Bros and Panic fans… heavy dose of vacationing lake people. All in all; wasn’t as good as the Mule in Buffalo for Rock the Harbor, but thank God wasn’t as bad as the Mule in Rochester for Party in the Park. Vibe rating about 6.
