Texas A&M Aggies Football History

Texas A&M first fielded a varsity football team as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas in 1894. Under coach Dana X. Bible, Texas A&M completed an undefeated season without allowing a score in 1917, then after Bible served a year in the military during World War I, repeated the feat in 1919. From 1954 to 1957, the legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant led Texas A&M, developing such notable players and future coaches as John David Crow, Jack Pardee and Gene Stallings. The 1954 team, known collectively as "The Junction Boys," overcame the worst season in Bryant's career and willed themselves over several seasons back into title contention.

The Aggies have won three national titles, in 1919, 1927 and 1939, plus 17 Southwest Conference championships and the 1998 Big 12 Conference championship. Between the program's historic associations with the Southwest and Big 12 Conferences, and Southeastern Conference currently, Texas A&M has developed many bitter foes, including LSU, Arkansas and South Carolina. Its fierce rivalry against the University of Texas effectively ended after the Aggies' switched to the SEC in 2012, but has been reignited with the Longhorns’ entrance to the SEC in 2024. The Aggies have had two Heisman Trophy winners: Crow in 1957 and Johnny Manziel in 2012.

Texas A&M Aggies Football at Kyle Field

College Station, Texas, is home to the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies play at Kyle Field, which originally opened in 1927 and now seats 102,733 after a complete renovation between 2013 and 2015. Texas A&M is known for its "12th Man" tradition, which stems from the 1922 Dixie Classic against Centre College. Spectator and basketball player E. King Gill rode the bench for A&M when coach Dana X. Bible realized he was running out of healthy substitutes, inspiring the Aggies to a 22-14 victory over the undefeated Centre Praying Colonels.

An amazing game between the Louisville Cardinals and Texas A&M! Lamar Jackson is a bona fide superstar and I can't wait to watch the Cards dominate the ACC in 2016. I'll be at every game in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium! It's gonna be a fun year!! #GoCards #L1C4

  • MCB has been better

    by Steveo429 on 1/2/16Nissan Stadium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great game late but with 3rd string QB playing I guess that's to be expected. My son and I go every year regardless of the teams. Its traditional for us. The experience is always awesome

  • Music City Bowl

by Breehna on 1/2/16Nissan Stadium - NashvilleRating: 3 out of 5

I really enjoyed the game and the stadium was pretty amazing. There's a crazy amount of concessions and the bathrooms were kept relatively clean. The only part I had an issue with was they would not let you bring a bag bigger than a clutch inside the stadium. I had a bag filled with extra clothing to stay warm and even though they had people there to check bags to make sure no weapons were in them I was not allowed to bring it inside. I had to carry all of my extra clothing and stuff everything into pockets, they would not even let me carry the EMPTY bag into the stadium. I had to rent a locker. I'm sure it's just another ploy to make money but I found it rather rediculous.

  • Great Venue and Game

The venue is a short walk away from all the bars and attractions and the game itself was great. Go Cards!

  • Music City Bowl fun

by JanieCar on 1/2/16Nissan Stadium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed the Music City Bowl - fun atmosphere, terrific view of downtown Nashville at night. Didn't have a dog in the race but was fun to watch just the same.

  • Nashville and Franklin American Music City Bowl

    by Texas2244 on 1/2/16Nissan Stadium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Nashville was awesome, lots to do. Broadway was fun, lots of music and food although i'd go out of downtown to eat next time...pricey and made for crowds. The Music City Bowl was great, eat and drink before you go...as with all professional football stadiums...way overpriced..slice of pizza $10, $8 hotdog...crazy. 16oz beer $9.

  • Good seats and view.

    by TheVille13 on 1/2/16Nissan Stadium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Seat location was great. Could see the action perfectly. Walking bridge to and from the game was a great way to avoid traffic. Do not go hungry to the game. The consessions were lacking and very slow.

  • Awesome!

by selinadh on 1/2/16Nissan Stadium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the end zone seats. Seeing the action when it's coming right at you is awesome.
